Sign and trade Nik.
The contracts being dished out I wouldn't be worried. Matthews at 80% is still a very nice player he would still be leathal from 3 and post up SG while being able to play SF. If the Achilles does effect him it would be defense if he went from elite defender to average id still be find with him.

A few reasons. One is that the Nets are resigning their own free agent and can exceed the cap to do so. Another is that Brooklyn is in a similar situation as Denver with Faried a few years back. Don't really want to overpay but can't afford to lose talent for nothing. It's a bad deal and a mistake IMO but they are stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Portland can exceed the cap for Matthews but every other team would have to have the cap room or do a sign-and-trade to give him a $15M contract. The Lakers have that kind of room. So does Philly. Beyond that I'm not sure.

Never say never, but we'd have to do some pretty unpalatable things to get there. Maybe a S&T sending Ben and Ray would do it capwise, but maybe not, it would all depend on the final numbers which are a bit fuzzy. S&T with Ben and Landry would do it, but why would Portland take on Landry's contract? S&T with Ben while stretching Landry's contract would seem to make enough space. Any way you look at it, getting Matthews would leave us with no real money to spend and we might be pretty darn thin on top of that. That's a lot to ask when the player in question is coming off an Achilles tear, IMO.
Also Mavs, who are believed to be the leaders in Matthews' sweepstakes. Parsons, DAJ and Matthews were all hanging out together last week.

(Jared Sullinger was the only guy on their roster during this time, that resembles Cousins with the amount of offense he creates for himself)
Cousins saw barely any spike in efficiency, when Dre entered the game replacing Ray late in the season, while Rudy looked much better with Dre than with Ray. Gay is vastly improved, when he receives the ball on the move rather than in stationary position, so I can see why Rudy would push for Rondo besides them being friends.

I think it sounds more like a trade Dave doesn't like...talking about how Bobby Flay can't make a meal with only charcoal for ingredients.
