Hall of Famer
When this dude was hired I didn’t for a second think I’d love and appreciate this guy like I do.
Same! I didn't really know who I wanted, aside from staying the eff away from Mark "Jesus 'N hookers" Jackson, but found myself very underwhelmed with the hiring of who I thought would end up another sorry Warriors retread.

Extremely pleased to be eating crow on this one. Brown has been great!

A WIN for the KINGS means just ONE thing, Fam Bam, and I sure as H-E-Double Hockey Sticks hope you're all ready for it, so here it goes...

JUST.
MUTHA.
EFFING.

IT.

Also...FIVE wins away from having the most wins since the 2005-2006 season.

The bench has responded to the trade deadline vote of confidence
Big time. Even Metu, as much as we harp on him, has been good post-deadline and at least attempting to play better defense out there. We were only -1 with him on the floor for 10:52... we take that all day every day.

Bench stats last 10 games:

Metu:
12.3 MPG
5.4 PPG
3.5 RPG
0.9 APG
80.8% TS (Damn! Low volume, but still super impressive)
+63 overall (+6.3 per game)

Lyles:
18.2 MPG
8.3 PPG
3.6 RPG
39.3% from 3 on 2.8 3PA
65.1% TS
+16 overall (+1.6 per game)

TD:
18.1 MPG
10.9 PPG
2.8 RPG
1.4 APG
0.8 SPG
48.9% from 3 on 4.7 3PA
68.2% TS
+33 overall (+3.3 per game)

Monk:
26.4 MPG
18.6 PPG
2.9 RPG
3.7 APG
0.9 SPG
46.7% from 3 on 4.5 3PA
68.9% TS
+56 overall (+5.6 per game)

Davion:
16.6 MPG
4.4 PPG
0.8 RPG
2.4 APG
28% from 3 on 2.5 3PA
49.8% TS
-63 overall (-6.3/game)

Outside of the glaring Davion problem, the bench is hoopin' and absolutely firing on all cylinders offensively, especially in terms of elite elite spacing. TD at the 3 and playing consistently excellent has given us another offensive weapon who can create their own shot and be an elite C&S spacer off Fox or Sabonis creation.

he might be a top 15 most valuable bench player in the league this year. His advanced stats and the eye test match. We really need to find a way to bring him back next year.
He's at 77 games in Kings Uni in his career and everything just points to him figuring something out in that span after a rough couple seasons. He's just a rock solid role player. Weird to say, but I think he's made himself apart of the core and someone the Kings need to bring back. It'd be a big hole to fill if he walks.

TD is another guy trending in that direction too, although not as much of a quality sample that Lyles has given us. But we've spent 2 years into TD's development, we're starting to see some real returns and we just let him walk? That'd suck too.

Also makes you question what the heck do we do with Davion? Is this a team that can support all 5 of Fox/Huerter/Monk/Davion/TD? Can Monk move to PG so we can move TD up and bring in another wing? If we shopped Davion, what would his actual market be? Could you get a real impact piece for like Davion+FRP+Holmes (for salary)?

Lots of interesting questions to answer with how this season is shaking out. But maybe the most surprising is Lyles playing himself into being a long-term core piece and TD right on his heels to be in that conversation. And unfortunately, Davion continuing to play himself out of the core.

Monks contract is another question. We only have him for next year, will he sign an extension? Will he play his way into a Huerter type contract? If so, can we afford that? Will we need to move KVon to make that happen? Obviously we have some time, but we are reaching the point where we are going to be in a position to lose players we actually want which has not happened much in Kings history.

The good news is we'll have early bird rights on Trey, TD and Monk to pay them up to 175% of their salary as an over the cap team. So for Monk, that's somewhere in the 16mil/season range, which seems about right with where the cap is supposed to be in a few years.

That Monk off-season is also the year that Domas gets his max. And then you have to start thinking about Fox's extension too, who will only have 1 more year after the 24-25 season.

1 more year+PO for Holmes is just so absolutely killer. Hate that a contract that was such a bargain when it was signed went all the way downhill so fast.

There is a lot of turnover in the NBA when you think about it, especially from the bench. I doubt all four of those bench guys you mention will be here two years from today.

I think I might look to move Davion for that 8th guy I've been harping on about in a more important defensive position and get backup PG help in the form of a more offensive player.

I want Davis on next season's roster
Right now he's invaluable because he's been the only other guy willing to create plays for himself but the playoffs tell that story as well as cost. This is the same process that keeps putting bench anchor contracts on the cap like Holmes since if they don't play, they tank. Davis wasn't even in the lineup for most of the year and we'll see what happens once the postseason begins. Contenders have non-expendable guys that deep on the bench but if you aren't quite there, they make it much harder to get there.

And just like some of us discussed with Holmes when they both acquired Holmes and also when he was re-signed, Davis could very well add to the pile next year of bad money unless they have a guaranteed role for him to play and shine. If this team storms through the playoffs playing 10-11 deep then all is well but that will be a total surprise if history of winning teams is any indication. Right now the true foundations have to be seen as Fox and Domas and that's it, everything else is everything else, not readily movable but if a package comes along, well... Thankfully Fox has been healthy this year but we have a very slim idea of what the Kings might look like without him and it might not even be a play in team at this point. That's not deep enough and skating far too thin of a talent line to be a true long term threat. I'm kind of hoping the Kings keep building on that buffer in the playoff race so they can maybe get Fox some rest heading into the post season while also fine tuning some of the bench guys.

Right, but he should have been playing all along, for the same reason that he's doing well now....it's only a matter of time (usually not long) before he gets it going. What I don't want is for someone else to sign him for a relatively low short term contract, leaving us looking for the same type of player.

I'd rather try to move Huerter and sign Davis.
