Kings "System" theory

I have been thinking about this for a while now. People often refer to players working or not working in the "King's system". Sometime, people say certain, not very good players excel in the Kings system and certain good players cannot play effectively in the Kings system. After losing Doug, Chris, and Vlade and seeing their struggles with their new teams, is it possible that these players were not nessesarily good players (anymore), but players that the King's system supported? or do you think it is more of a case of individual circumstances?

Chris was pretty effective before the Kings, same with Doug and Vlade. Doug and Vlade are both at the tail ends of there career, and are about at retirement age. In the meanwhile, Chris is starting to turn things around, there team is over 500 since the trade so that's no small beans when your team is under 500 and your in a weak division. Chris will readjust and as long as he stays away from injury he'll be alright, and the 6ers will be alright. Kings will also be alright especially if Skinner, Thomas and Williamson play anywhere near what they've played lately especially with Miller coming back, the team gelling and maybe Bobby coming back. The system obviously doesn't hurt but I don't think it's everything, you still need some talent, you need some passing skills, but it definitely doesn't hurt.

The Kings "system" accentuates certain players strong suits, like passing for the three players you mentioned. Notice that Bibby's assists went way down when he came to Sac, because of the system. That said, it does not mean the players aren't good, it just means that they are that good and get to show it within the system. There are a lot of players who aren't playing as well as they could be because their skills aren't being fully utilized, and there are a few whose potential is maximized because they are being used just right.

I don't think you can say a guy isn't good because he only plays well within a particular system. You just have to be aware of what that system has done for him before you assume he will be just as good somewhere else.

Our system rewards:

-- passing in every player EXCEPT the PG, this is especially true of big men (for whom its almost an absolute requirement)
-- outside shooting

Our system does not favor:

-- one on one players
-- low skill can't dribble/pass/shoot specialist types

Which of course leaves us with our traditional advantage in overall skill and teamwork, but disadvantage in physicality, defense, toughness and ability to create.

BTW, the real key with Doug is just age -- was declining fast for us too, we just had lingering confidence in him as an old mainstay and so played him more than most teams would have. And of course Vlade just got injured + ready to retire. So I'm kind of voting individual circumstances -- after all Adelman can't be an idiot who doesn't develop players and holds them back from their true potential AND a guy who gets the most out of his talent now can he? ;)

No argument there, and that is also why I strongly suspect Big Nasty may not be long on this team while Kenny , should he contenue to pass well might be a keeper. As much as the Skinner lovefest is fun to see, IF Skinner does not develop a respectable passing game he will not and should not be part of a starting 5. Darius is not only aquanted with the system but from what I cna see the better passer at the PF, this makes him more valuable to the SYSTEM than Skinner and Kenny. Now good arguments can be made for both of them but the truth be tolad IF their passing games are not at least good they are better traded for big men with some passing skills.

I think our system should also reward players that attack the basket and play above the rim. Our passing big men should be passing to open men closest to the basket so even if Skinner-Thomas-Corliss aren't good passers you certainly need good finishers on cuts to the hoop. So far I haven't seen much passing from this three (except a nice one by KT yesterday) and they aren't quite adept yet at the close quarters pass but all can finish, something that the rest of our squad has trouble with...blown layups on soft stuff going up.

Who do you think we could trade Big Nasty for? WAIT, what am I saying? There is no possible way to predict what Petrie is going to do. For all I know, they could bring in Phil Jackson and his triangle offense by next season. EGAD!
