He shot the ball very well in summer league, and he played aggressive defense. Strange signing though, unless they plan on moving another guard in a trade. I would suspect that its a unguaranteed contract, or partially guaranteed.
it's on nba.com . Contract disclosures weren't revealed. So....I'm assuming he gets sent to the D-league? Because what we need is another guard right? Lol
sure why not. it's not like we need a back up C or anything. let's concentrate on need...like another guard.![]()
This isn't about the main team. This is us using our D-league team to stash a few guys we like. It'd be really cool to see the D-league develop like a minor league baseball. Where EVERY team has a d-league affiliate and those contracts are separate from NBA ones. So you could have 15 guys down in the "minors" who would be ready to step in to your system at the drop of a hat.
Don't be confused. TRADE. It's a big word and it covers lots of ground and will do the trick here nicely. Let's hope we find the right partner and a good deal.this move has me confused
As far as stashing guys on our D- League any one that plays on Reno team can be signed by any NBA team
unless they are under contract by the Kings and we send several of our guys (the 14-15th) contracts to DL
like Ray McCallum and Trent Lockett for them to get experience
If contract is not guaranteed, then I understand the move, basically a body for pre-season
and he will compete for the 15th contract on the roster along with any other camp invitees
If he wins the contract then yeah would go to DL
But if he is the 15th and last guaranteed contract? then
A. how do you get anyone else to come to camp ?
B. That means we have no shot of bringing in a SF or back up big
without a trade or outright releasing or buying out a contract?
this move has me confused

To answer A, unsigned players will usually take any opportunity to display their talents at the NBA level, regardless of the team they're playing for. The idea is to get picked up by an NBA team. Playing in the preseason games is a good way to accomplish that. I grant you that players of a certain position will ultimately try to catch on with a team that has an opening at their position, but beggars can't always be chooser's.
As for B, I've felt for some time that the only way were going to acquire a SF at this point in time, is through a trade, and for all we know, this signing may be a precursor to a trade. For instance, lets say they've agreed to make a trade involving Thornton to acquire a SF. If that were true, that would leave them a little thin at the SG position, and signing Lockett would make a some sense. On the other hand, if a deal comes along, like the Sun's waive Beasley, and the Kings (god forbid) decide to give him a go at the league minimum, then all they have to do is release Lockett if he's on an unguaranteed contract.
In short, I don't think its anything to stress yourself out over. Small potato stuff! And if, in a couple of years Lockett turns into another Danny Green, then the Kings look like geniuses.
As far as trades go, I'm not sure that I'm quite ready to hand over the SG reins to Ben McLemore and an undrafted signee..
Guys, I know we are in the dead of TDOS and our front office has been in Bali for months, but our top thread is about a non-guaranteed D-league level signing of an undrafted rookie who averaged 7ppg in summer league. I'll have to do something about that.

Raise your hand if you thought the big signings this offseason would be Carl Landry and Trent Lockett? Anyone? Bueller?

It just happens to be the last move the Kings made. Maybe not a significant one, but better than continually rehashing the fact that Tyreke is gone. But hey, if you have something better to talk about, I'd be all over it. Getting pretty boring around here.Hot here today on the beach. But not as hot as Palm Springs..........Right Cruzy?
Signing a guy who has no connection to the Nuggets or Warriors is some pretty darn big news if you ask me.
