After the Tyreke trade, I decided to reserve judgement to see what they did with that extra $5 million in capspace that the Kings got by flipping Robin Lopez to Portland. Well I guess today we got the answer in Carl Landry??? While he is valuable as a scorer off the bench and is familiar with Malone, I would much rather have Lopez's defense and athleticism next to Cousins any day especially at $10.5 million over 2 years. Not to mention Lopez is only 25 and may still be improving. Barring a trade for Asik, Gortat, Varejao, or a similar defensive big, this offseason (minus MLM falling in our laps) has been a major bleed in talent AND fit for this roster moving forward. Hard to stay optimistic about this front office when every day it seems to get worse and worse.

Just because JT has a higher RPG average, doesn't mean he was the better rebounder last season. His 5 extra MPG explains that easily enough.

TRB% gives you a look at the % of rebounds a player grabbed while he was on the floor. As you can see, it's about equal. Given Landry being the much more effective offensive player, it's no contest as to why Landry is superior.

Well not to mention that Landry helped Coach Malone on a winning team win and Thompson just like every other primary Kings rotation player nothing but losing since they have been in the NBA.

JT better on defense though and he knows his role next to cousins. we need a back up though maybe landry will be decent at that but we all prefer a shot blocker. Not to mention he's a top of the line class act person as well.....Yes, he has his faults when it comes to playing, but I do remember him putting up some big numbers when he was with the Kings.... Landry should be here as an upgrade to JT and Ppat as a 6th man. Does that sense right now? No. If we acquire a defensive big next to Cousins? You bet your hat it does.

I'll be as livid as anyone here if we plan on rolling with Cousins, Landry, JT, Ppat as our bigs next season. Alas, we are not at the end of the off-season and are 6 days into the process.

look Im sorry but where are you getting your stats from? they are almost identical except for the fact that JT leads in all of them except scoring. Landry averages 1 more point than JT.

Last year Landry could not get more than 2 years - 8 mil contract (4 mil per year) with players option for second year which he opted out 10 days ago.
He practically had the same stats when he signed that contract year ago as he had past season.
We got him for 4 years - 26 mil.

With Thompson of the floor, some of Cousins defensive struggles could be covered up due to Thompson being a good defender. However, if Landry stars along with Cousins, Cousins' deficiencies on defense will be exposed.

I don't recall ever getting into too much detail on Chuck. I liked the acquisition when because of his leadership we first got him, and his production fell off a cliff.

I think we are learning the lesson in not "overpaying" guys. Instead of Tyreke (too expensive) and Iggy (too expensive) we now have Vasquez and Landry. Good for us. Vasquez fills the gaping hole at PG that Tyreke would have played and Landry fills the gaping hole on the bench.

Or how about PPat shooting 10-23feet jumpers at 50.1%?

Which again raises the giant question of what exactly is Landry bringing us that we did not have? Midlevel solid citizen vet undersized rebounding challenged PF who can hit midrange jumpers? Position filled, sry.

Maybe we can spend what's left of our money on another undersized combo chucker guard. Those are cool too.

JT is an open door defensively. He tries, but he's almost never effective.

Cousins D will be exposed until he gives consistent effort on that end of the floor. He needs a strong D big next to him, but he also can't approach playing D the way he has in the past

Oh good lord. That much is very much in question. Always has been. And is why Landry is earning right in that same range of money after years of teams dumping him and declining to offer him these contracts. He's a jopurneyman. Nothing more. You might be the last person in the NBA who apparently hasn't seen past the Landry charade. He only does one thing well. He does a lot of things not well.

JT is at least his equal, and has a better skillset next to Cousins.

I rate Landry as better than PPat, but its not a blowout, and PPat's stretchiness gives him a niche use which Landry does not have.

I think this is a fair assessment of the three players. I think Landry and JT are equals on the basketball court overall, one will be better than the other depending on the position and fit. If we get a better big man that would push both players into a bench role, well, I think that suits Landry better. He has a longer track record there and can be effective in short spurts where JT always struck me as a player who can chip in a little here and a little there over the course of the game. Landry is easier to predict as a bench player for the most part. What Landry lacks - rebounding ability, defense, and size are far less important in a 25MPG bench role, and his scoring ability is much more valuable as a bench player.

I also think Landry is slightly better off the court. This no knock on JT, but Landry has seen more, been through more, won more, etc. He really is a top notch guy. And JT is too, this isn't a totally fair point, but I think it's a minor 'culture change' thing. Just a different face. Not a huge deal.

I think Patterson is in last place, but that's also close. I wouldn't pay Patterson though, and that's why I have no issue putting Landry in front of him. After this season he's going to get paid a number I wouldn't be willing to match.

All this leads me to say this - There are guys out there that I just don't want under any scenario. Monta Ellis being one of them. Landry isn't. There are so many ways to make Landry work on this team or any team. Now that we have him it's on us to do that.

We've added TWO very efficient offensive players in Landry (career .596% ts) and McLemore (63% ts ncaa last year). That's a big upgrade for a team that struggles with offensive efficiency. We've also added a true pass first pg that averaged over 9apg last year... something many have been clamoring for here for a long time. We brought in a head coach that specializes in defense as well... our TEAM D should improve greatly as a result. All in all I think we're gonna surprise a lot of people next season... can't wait!!

consider this JT was starter with one of the best rebounders in the NBA. Landry was a bench player rebouding against other bench players. and 5 min more would have given landry a whopping 6.8 reb if you average his rebounds per 5 min. do yeah landry would have dominated JT in rebound 6.8 to 6.7. I wonder why he only got 4 per game the last time he was on a team with cousins????? hmmmm

JT's rebounds with Cus: 6.1 per 23.3 the season Landry was here, and 6.9 in 26 and 6.7 in 28 min

Assist/TO ration, ball movement counts right:
Landry overall .62 with last 3 seasons .56,
JT overall .8 with last 3 seasons being .92

The only silver lining is that Kings now need more scoring options and Landry is better there.

I agree that he needs to change his attitude and approach to playing some D so hopefully Malone can make him buy into the defensive plan for the team.
