I'm actually looking for some clarification on this, I've been hearing a lot lately that while we won't have any cap room for a free agent this summer we should have enough for a big time free agent in the next offseason, before the 2009-10 season. With the research I've done I don't believe this is the case, I don't think we will have room until the offseason after that, before the 2010-11 season. Are the Kings brass (Grant Napear included) trying to confuse the fans or am I off somewhere in my research? Let me show you what I see here.
Kings Salaries before 2009-10 season (Assuming a cap around 58 million)
Brad Miller: 12.5 million
Kenny Thomas: 8.5 million
Shareef: 6.6 million
Mikki: 3 million or 5.5 million if we keep him past the preseason
Salmons: 5.5 million
Sheldon Williams: 4.3 million, unless we don't exercise team option
Hawes: 2.3 million, we will exercise team option
Martin: 11 million
Douby: 2.2 million, if we exercise team option
Garcia: 2.9 million, qualifying offer, we might actually extend him for more
Beno: 5.5 million, assuming we sign him this offseason
The total Kings salaries for 2009-10 = At least 64.3 million, 4.3 million over the salary cap.
Now the offseason after that Miller, Thomas, Shareef, Mikki, and possibly Sheldon and Douby will be off the cap which will put us under by a significant amount. We also need to include draft picks we get since then though. Does this make sense, am I off somewhere here?
