Kings, Rockets, and Bobcats:

Hall of Famer
Its my opinion that if the Kings are going to make a trade, they need to go after an impact player. One team that might be willing to give up such a player is the Bobcats. They're currently 8 games out of first place with a 7 and 12 record. They're also sitting there with 66 million in total salaries. Considerably over the cap. So in trying to keep it simple stupid as they say, here's my proposal..

Kings trade: Carl Landry, 27 yr's old, current salary $3,000,000.00. Omri Casspi, 22 yrs old, current salary $1, 254, 480.00. 1st rd draft pick, top 5 protected.

Kings recieve: Gerald Wallace, 28 yr's old, current salary $9,862,500.00, with two more years remaining.

Charlotte trades: Gerald Wallace.

Charlotte recieves: Jordan Hill, 23 yrs old, current salary $2,669,520.00. Omri Casspi, and 1st round pick from the Kings.

Houston trades: Jordan Hill.

Houston recieves: Carl Landry.

Obviously this is a no brainer for both the Kings and the Rockets. The Bobcats give up a very good player, but gain three young prospects if you count the draft pick and also get significant cap relief. The main problem for the Bobcats is that their trading just one player and getting back two. So the trade could be tweeked by the Kings taking on an additional player as long as the contract is not very long or very big.

I don't know if the Bobcats would go for it, but right now they're going nowhere, and have a team thats made up of a lot of players that are mostly complimentry type players. So a step back and reload might be in order for them.

Because when he played here he always played like he would kill himself before he would lead the team to victory. I did not enjoy watching him. When he left I was happy. Just a me thing. Let him be a star for somebody else. I was really uneasy watching him.

I wouldn't mind this trade. Certainly, Wallace would help out defensively. However, his career 31% 3 point percentage (34% this season) doesn't really excite me.

This team should not be trading away future firsts unless it lands us a star. IMO Gerald Wallace is a very good player but not a star. He is aging and he game is still based mostly on athleticism. How much longer can he keep playing the way he does until the athleticism goes away?

If we keep the first I have no problem with this trade

Well firstly, he's tempered his game considerably since leaving here. He still plays very hard, but he has learned when and when not to kick it into overdrive. He's hardly aging at 28 years of age. He's only one year older than Landry. He just seems old because he came into the league so young. He'll only be 30 years old when his current contract ends.

He's a terrific defender and one of the best rebounders in the league, and remember he's a SF. He averages over 1 steal and over 1 blocked shot per game. And while his lifetime 3 pt shooting is below average, remember that his first 5 years in the league, he was terrible. last year he aveaged 37 % from beyond the arc while shooting 48% overall. Wallace would have immediate impact on our lineup both defensively and offensively. While I hate giving up Casspi and a 1st round pick. You have to give up something to get something. And while Wallace may not be a superstar, he's certainly a star in this league, and would probably become the best all around player on our team.

If you want someone that can defend Carmelo Anthony, and others like him, Gerald can do just that.

There is an Espn article today talking about the availability of the top 2 Bobcat players. Wallace could make us one of the top 3 rebounding teams and improve team defense. I would move Landry one of our SFs and a non lottery first for him. Beyond that I'm not sure

That would all be reasonable, although prior to these most recent reports I thought that the story was always that Brown and Jordan really liked Gerald. And of coure you also have to factor in the age issue -- a guy who relies on mega-athleticism like Gerald might not have too many good years past 30, so you can't count on a long window with him. Nonetheless I continue to like the idea of pairing Reke with a guy like Gerald or Iggy -- would give us just an overwhelming power/athleticism/to the basket game. IF we could find enough shooters to open things up. Good for putting butts back in the seats too.

As an aside, I still go back and forth on whcih one of our own SFs is going to eventually be better, but when it comes to a trade like this it always clarifies for me -- it would have to be Casspi in the trade. The reason? Donte can play a role. Play defense, accept fewer minutes/shots. Omri on the other hand already chafes, and if you throw in a major minute and shot guy ahead of him to boot...just not what he was built for, nor can he/has he shown the ability to make an impact wiht defense. So if we were o trade for a major SF, I think Donte is the keeper (and Donte/Gerald would be a hell of a defensive combo too). One note there though: in pondering trading Omri it has often occurred to me that whatever value he may have as a player, he might have extra value to a franchise from a city with a significant jewish population. Charlotte ain't that. New York, New Jersey, Philly, L.A. etc. might give you more for him.

I'm okay with this other then including the 1st. Make it top 10 protected then ok. It could easily be a #6 or #7(Although the way things are going it's going to be a top 4). A #6/7 included with Omri and Carl is too much for Wallace IMO.

They do... But, word on the street in Bobcats Land is that Stephen Jackson is trying to lead a player mutiny against Wallace.

Wallace is damaged goods now. Too risky he gets hurt or another concussion.

You have to give credit when its due. Wallace has tempered his game. Last year he played in 76 games and averaged 41 MPG. I think you would admit thats a lot of minutes. The year before he played in 71 games and averaged 37.3 MPG. So far this year he has played in every game and is playing aroung 38 MPG. So please tell me. In what way is he damaged goods?

Concussions dont just heal. The next one could be a career ender. He is more susceptible as he has had several severe ones.
