Kings rated poorly in USA Today

The Tuesday edition (11/1) of USA Today Sports (page 13C) rates the Kings, at this point just before season starts, as #11 in the NBA one slot below Cleveland. Before everyone goes and gets too excited  hang 10 for a sec.

On paper we look top 4-5 maybe but we are a long way from a Paper Tiger to a Division Tiger. Fortunately, we have a relatively weak division. But as can be seen from the last 2 preseason games, and from Coachs' remarks in the Bee today, the Kings are a long way from being a really good team much less a contender. But me worry? nahhh.

The pieces are there, 10 of them in fact, the coaching is there and a rough road schedule to begin will give the boys time to know one another better, on the court and off.

So 11 eh? About right, for now. Let's see where they can get now they are underdogs. On 12/1 they should be on the same page and flexing their basketball muscles and showing us where they belong.

Several people have had us #11 -- and looking at the teams they put ahead of us I think that is possible. Possible, but not likely. Its basically about the most pessimistic take you can have on things. I can make decent arguments why all 10 of the teams occassionally ranked hihger than us are indeed better than us. Half of them just ARE better than us talentwise, and the other half are just better constructed and have a better idea what they want to do as a team.

On the other hand I can make decent arguments why th Kings are better than 5-6 of the teams ahead of us and I still think there is the possibility of a 55win type regular season just teamed with an early playoff flameout.

In any case, things have changed for us. For years and years we knew where we were on the NBA pecking order. We could carry the "if healthy we're contenders" hope every year. Now nobody is quite sure. As a rule I think anybody who rates us BELOW #11 is beginning to be a little outrageous. But #11 is possible. As is #8. Or #6.

I'll just let the first couple of months play out to see who's "pre season power ranking" assesments of us are true. Nobody, including the kings players, the owners, the coaches, the media, the writers, or us fans know what were gonna get out of this team. Lets just wait it out.

But "waiting it out" as ONEZERO puts it is no fun. We have to have something to start talking about and what better topic than our ghost like Kings. Ghost like in that you can see an image if a team, almost, then its gone only to reappear as a slightly different image after the next game, and so on.

Agreed it is only paper but its better than nothing during our waiting period.

The L.A. Times also has the Kings at #11, and the Lakers at..............#10

It should be noted the L.A. Times is always noted for its credibility;)

LOL.

Ric Bucher just predicted the Clippers and the Lakers making the playoffs. Go figure.

Well of course Ric is the picture of credibility himself.

Going 8-7 in the first month will put us from about 10-15th spot. It will take us a while to gel, and I won't be suprised if we lose our first few games.

Cruzdude, I'm not saying I aint gonna have fun watching the team in the first couple of months, just that I'm not gonna ride em' off or jump on the bandwagon too quickly.

My broken record reply to any media opinions about this year's Kings is "their preseason will take until end of November, at least" to work out the kinks. Until then, I'll watch every game and ...........
