KINGS PICKING 4TH IN 2022 NBA DRAFT!

I haven't seen Dyson Daniels get much discussion. Probably too high to take at 4, but he is an interesting prospect. Big wing who can handle, pass and defend. Shooting needs to improve but there's nothing mechanically wrong with his shot.

I also think Tari Eason could be a steal, and could see him going top 10. Big defensive wing, great athlete. There's some very interesting wing prospects in this draft. Would love to have another first rounder.

My point wasn't that people laughed at us for drafting Hali, it's that we remain a laughingstock no matter what we do. "Watch the Kings screw it up again," they say, despite the fact that we've been making good moves. So should we listen to the people snickering at us behind our backs, or should we pay attention to what we've been doing under McNair? If McNair's history is a guide, we'll get this right.

This. People have been pointing and laughing even without knowing what the hell they’re talking about the last couple years. Some of them still think Vlade works here.

We'll be a laughingstock until we win. Simple as that. No matter what we do, it's as simple as that. Just like I don't have any clue of the minutiae around what the Orlando Magic or Houston Rockets are doing on a daily basis, nether does the rest of the nation care about the details of the Kings organization. We're a laughingstock until we win and change the narrative, and until then I will trust the opinions of people locally (including this board) to those that have no clue.

oh? Super interesting to me as Ivey is a lower-tier "top guard" for a class than we've seen in recent years.

But maybe some legs on us trading up with OKC. Presti gets the guy he wants and a lotto pick from the worst historically run organization in the last 15 years. As we've discussed, I'd hopefully like to keep top 5 pick protection, but I'd still shove all-in with the unprotected FRP if it means we get Chet/Jabari

Wonderful. We need defense and shooting so of course we'll end up with Paulo Banchero whose two biggest question marks are defense and shooting. It seems fated to happen.

Big difference being that I think Paolo is a clear BPA over the Ivey/Murray/Sharpe tier and he's shown more defensive upside than Ivey. Offers the real unique on-ball/playmaking skill set from a 6'10/240 pound big. Fit might be rough to start, but I think Banchero is skilled enough as an offensive player to get to be at least an adequate 3pt shooter (35% or so). Showed some signs late that the shot was emerging in the last 10 games (14/34 for 42%) on 3.4 attempts per game.

Brown will have to be creative to make use of him and Sabonis, but that pairing can really be special. Banchero/Sabonis PnR's?? Just an added benefit Paolo plays a more premium position that we aren't overtly stacked at.

I would love to have Banchero. His shooting form looks pretty good, he shot 34% from 3 for the season, and I think he shot 73% or 74% from the ft line. He seemed like a three level scorer. Obviously he will need work to get better from range but signs point to him being at least league average at 35%.

As for the defense, I believe that he was pretty good in isolations against ball handlers and post ups. He struggled in the zone or defending the roll man on a pick and roll. I think there is a lot of potential for him on defense, especially with someone like Mike Brown who had Draymond Green to work with. Banchero is a pretty high IQ player, and with his athletic traits for a guy with his size and length, I think Mike Brown would love him.

Couple all of that with his playmaking ability, I think he could be a Ben Simmons type but with shooting. Not saying he will be as good on defense or as good as a playmaker but I think he could be at least a Simmons lite just with a better offensive ability.

So I'd love to get one of Holmgren, Banchero, or Murray. They all seem to have that fire in them.
 
I’ll be pretty happy with any of the big five or six players most frequently mentioned. Regardless of the pick I just want to see another strong defensive player at the forward/wing spot brought in, I think Monte can swing that request.

Just for kicks though, if there is any way to draft Smith that’s my preference.
If we stay put at 4, hoping Sharpe is as good as advertised and the pick. If we trade down a pick or two, Murray and a veteran asset would suit just fine.
 
To me it feels more likely Smith falls than Banchero. The same debate we are having with Murray other teams are having with Smith. Best right now vs. superstar potential. I do believe that we are the only team besides possibly Indy in the top 6 that has an immediate win now mandate. Only Portland at 7 is in as urgent a situation as we are. Everyone else I am sure is happy to swing for the fences and keep their odds high for next year's big prize.

I mean, I think a Kings FRP is a real real valuable asset, just betting on this franchise imploding as it's done consistently the last 16 years. We know things have operated differently here under McNair, but basically all the national media has yet to catch on and last I checked, Vivek still owns the team. And if he wants Ivey, why not get (at a minimum) top 5 protected FRP from us and still get the guy you want?
 
I can only see it if the pick is Smith. They can totally afford to shoot for the stars with Banchero and Chet and if it doesn't work they only have 1000 other picks. It's like how the venerated Philly process drafted 3 straight bigs and managed to hit a homerun on one of them.

I think the only way OKC does it is if we are offering our unprotected first for next year. They will want to max out their odds of hitting big on Wembanyama. Otherwise, it's just another draft pick among way too many that they already have.

I really think if we get Smith and everyone stays for the most part healthy, we aren’t a lottery team next year. OKC can have that unprotected pick.
 
While I'd like this to be true (assuming the cost to move from #4 to #2 isn't exhorbitant) it seems really strange to make a deal like this now. Teams make trades on draft night when they know exactly who is available.

I find it hard to believe that McNair & team either (a) know who Orlando will take or (b) are equally okay with two different prospects being available.

Who knows what mind games teams are playing these days. Suggest they are in love with a player and hope someone picking ahead of them might not take that serious a look at the guy they are really interested in. Wonder if these mind games, if played, make any difference at all.

In either case, agree that it's too early to be making a trade. If Monte has discussed it outside the organization, it might be to gauge the price of moving up.
 
If there is a gentleman’s agreement on a trade it’s probably contingent on what Orlando does. If OKC doesn’t want a big they could trade back knowing at least one of Sharpe/Ivey will be there at 4
