HereWeBurkle???
Wow if we ever doubted the sincerity of the Maloofs as owners... the NBA having to foot some upfront money FOR the MALOOFS?! Stern/NBA must not be happy about this, please make the Maloofs sell.
1 - This arena is going to get built and the opening game will be in 2015.
2 - Who will be the owner of the team in 2015 is seriously not a certainty.
3 - I have no idea what prompted this flurry of a desperate move by George and swift response by Stern today. But I'm almost certain this a big time chess match behind the scene and we don't know even half the story.
4 - See #2 again.
The news on 13 led with this story. It said that David Stern has issued a statement saying the league will cover the first installment of the $3.5 million the Maloofs are supposed to pay. I have to believe that Stern has just about had it with the Maloofs at this point. Does anybody have Ron Burkle's private number?
I have stayed out of the new owner arguments for a very long time. I am done. Finished. I don't know what George or any of the other Maloofs are thinking and I'm beyond caring. They've stabbed me - AND ALL KINGS FANS - in the heart for the last time.
I think there's a lot more to #3 as well, especially with the swiftness of Stern's movement. After sticking his neck out for Sacramento, there's no way Fredo gets another chance to prove how smaht he is.

When VF21 comes over to my side of the Maloofs bus, the ship has sailed on them being viable NBA owners.

How much are the Maloofs in debt to the NBA? Not enough for a Hornets situation surely?
Remember the line from the other owners when Maloofs went to NY for the NBA meeting flagging their intent to relocate?!
Wasn't it "The boys don't have the money"?! Indeed they don't.
Thet owe ~ $70 million to the city of Sacramento on their previous loan and have taken that loan from the NBA a couple of seasons ago which was written to be around ~ $100 million! That's in excess of $150 million of debt. Don't forget that they are not outright owners. They own around 55% of the Kings which gives them the controlling interest but their share of ownership is pretty much worth roughly the same amount that they owe to Sacramento and NBA.
That is not even getting to the ~$150 million they have committed to the new arena where ~$75 million is up front and the rest over the course of the deal!
Now I am no finance expert but that is some seriously scary numbers
Do they personally owe those numbers, or do the Kings as a franchise. Because you have to halve all those number in relating it to them.
Also, where are the other owners as far as liquidity and helping to pay for things. It's not like the Maloofs own 55% and they are paying all the costs.
honestly im sure they were banking on the fact that the city wouldnt be able put together a plan in a year, now that we have a plan and have stepped up they simply dont have 73 million in cash to pay for it, hell they were going to take 70 mill from samueli just to cover some of their debts where the hell are they gonna pull 73 million from?
I totally agree. Maloofs seem so confident they have (to be exact) $73.25 million agreed to in Orlando and spelled out on the term sheet. Where is it? The only conceivable big equity I can see that the family has is long-standing Well Fargo Bank stock - unless they've been tapping into it in recent years. Also, WFB stock has lost a lot of share value in recent years. The 55% ownership of the Kings is also an equity position but obviously only available if they sell.
