Kings need to sign a Free Agent NOW!!!

#1
The kings bench is still woefully thin... we are getting very inconsistent contributions from everybody on the bench, except bobby jackson... tag, songaila, barnes can be very good on one night and totally disappear the next game.... the kings need a reliable new player coming off the bench... someone who can give them consistent minutes night in and night out...

the maloofs should stop worrying about the luxury tax and free up some money to allow petrie to go after a reliable free agent, when the kings still have a great chance of going deep into the playoffs... i'm sure a deep run into the WCF or nba finals would offset any 1 million dollar contract signed now...

the kings need a veteran who has been a proven scorer/player in the league, for adelman to use them in the rotation... there are a few players who fit the profile, and the kings should contact them NOW!!!...

1) Gary Trent... proven scorer and rebounder in the league... can lay the hard fouls... would help solve kings biggest problems, rebounding and defense... would have to move songaila to backup small forward....

2) Karl Malone... hall of famer... would back up webb and give the kings scoring and rebounding off the bench... health and age a big question... what could be sweeter for malone than to help the kings win a championship, to spite kobe...

3) Courtney Alexander... if he could only get healthy... very atheletic... would give peja and doug a backup who can score... knows the kings system, since he was in camp with the kings...

4) Eddie House... a proven scoring machine off the bench.... ala bobby jackson... a shooting guard in a point guards body.... can play the 1 or 2 spots... bibby's brother in law (i believe)

5) Eddie Robinson... Proven scorer and defender... very atheletic... has been injured, but if healthy would be a very good back up to peja and christie... kings have type of uptempo offense to put his career back on track...

6) John Walllace... can play the 3 or 4 spots... versitle scorer... can still contribute in this league...

Any one of these players, if healthy, would be able to be inserted right into our rotation and give a solid contribution... but they won't last forever on this low priced free agent market... so petrie needs to act now!!!

GO KINGS!!!

1) Trent's pretty much out of the league at this point. Not sure how much better he is than Darius, and has same limitations (pure undersized 4).

2) Mailman = ick!! I will say this though, I am not nearly as anti-it as I would have been last year when he was doing the hall of fame sellout thing. And if it comes down to San Antonio or Minnesota strengthening themselves with him as opposed to us...
But he could start in Minn or Miami. Seems a better fit for San Antonio's style of play. And of course would jsut add to our lack of athleticism. Wonder if he can still rebound with the bum knee too. But still...the one guy on the whole list who could make a difference + add toughness and rebounding, nosiome as he might be.

3) Courtney -- yes, I was hoping that would work out. Maybe it still will. Problem for him will be that he is still in the same boat as Martin/Evans -- yet a THIRD pure OG on a team with no OG minutes to go around. Would have to be able to swing to the 3 (where he'd be an awful rebounder/defender) to get consistent minutes.

4) Eddie House -- sure. Wouldn't mind having him on the bench. But that's where he'd stay. He's duplicative with Bobby. So he'd only get minutes if we had an injury and wouldn't make any difference at all in our normal rotation (except maybe sparing Bobby a couple of minutes in blowouts).

5) Eddie Robinson -- out for the year with a bad toe. Was an interesting idea before that happened, although he's never done much of anything but dunk.

6) John Wallace -- scrub. 3/4, so a slightly different flavor of scrub than we currently have. Might get the 8-10 minutes behind Peja. Might also jsut be a 12th man. Probably not worth the money.

Patience grasshopper. I hear there will be a fire sale on bench players in Indiana soon. Lets see it anyone who is CURENTLY playing basketball (decenet ball at that) is avalilabe before we start looking at cripples and gereatriatics.

Ah, come on, Brick; where's your sense of humor? We should sign Wallace to play behind Stojakovic for the sheer irony of it... :D

You're assuming that Wallace would not just take away Peja's starting spot -- I mean he was great in the Final Four. ;)

If we really are that desprate( which I dont think we are right now) why dont we get Eddie House. He is really good.
Where's he going to get minutes from? House is a perfectly fine player, but he's a combo guard, and we already have a better one.

entrench the bench

One way to get an experienced bench that knows the system is

play the bench!

I think in the long run Matt and Kevin may be able to do anything we could get from any free agent swing men. And Darius and Greg can handle the rest.

Sure, I would love big, athletic, young, cheap, experienced, roll-model bench guys. But they don't exist.

The Maloofs should stop worrying about the luxury tax? Do you have any idea how much they've already spent on the luxury tax?

I find it very interesting that some people in general are so quick to spend the Maloofs money - and then complain if ticket prices rise.

I'm sure beyond any doubt that Petrie, Adelman, etc. are looking to see who might be available to fill that one open roster spot. They'll do what they feel needs to be done - and, as usual, it will probably be someone most of us didn't even think of. Petrie is very good at doing that...

so who do you people think we could or should sign? or y'all think what we have already is just fine & we don't need additions to the roster anymore? some suggestions already made are quite acceptable IMHO but it seems that after it has been suggested, a barage of negatives just flow in & the idea/s are then negated.....

Looking at the Kings system (that favours skill over sheer athleticism) and success of estabilished foreign players why not look to Europe or South America for free agents? Somebody like Andres Nocioni who Bulls signed this year. He's gonna do just fine in NBA even though he was never drafted or hyped. So, the candidate would be someone who has played and estabilished themselves on a national team (preferably Argentina, Lithuania, Russia, Serbia, Croatia...) and in one of the better national leagues in Europe (Spain, Italy...). But NOT another youngster who can't break into starting five but has a huge upside. The problem is that it would have to be someone on a team that will not make it deep into Eurolegue or national league play-offs so that rights can be obtained relatively cheaply.

Is such a thing at all possible?

can anyone tell me any information about this guy?

lazos papadopoulo
here ya go...we own his rights, doesnt sound like anyone who would really help out that much...6'11/255...not very big, in NBA standards, just a project type of player...plays for the same team as Dejan Bodiroga in Greece. Who knows if he even would come over here if we were desperate enough to offer him a contract. Anyways, here's the link about him:

Don't quote me on this, but I think that any player who is a FA has to have at least declared for the draft at some point in his life and either not been selected, or selected and eventually let go etc. Its not just a free for all where GMs can go running all around the world swooping up whoever they want to whenever they want to (entering the draft enters the player into the NBA's collective bargaining agreement on finances/contracts etc.).

Where's NME when you need him? Sure he could confirm (or deny). Got to get that boy posting more here again.

Makes sense. So we would be looking at the bunch of PG's who could not adopt to NBA style or dozen or so big guys who don't like playing inside. Never mind.

More minutes for TAG!!!

We should be trying to get Tag in for more minutes first. You can't tell if somebody is effective in 9 freakin' minutes!! When he's played longer stretches he has done very well.

Saw a story from the Charlotte Observer on the site above saying that the Bobcats would send Steve Smith to a contender, if he wished. He wouldn't be a bad guy to get if all the Kings had to give up was a couple of 2nd-round picks or even a first (saving the guaranteed salary of someone who'd never get on the court). He's a veteran, so Adelman wouldn't hesitate to use him, if necessary, and he'd probably be happy with a limited role on a contending team. At 6-8, he can play both 2 and 3. Most importantly, he's another outside threat -- 44 percent field goals, 36 percent 3s and 85 percent FTs over a long career.

The other night in Indy, after Peja got hurt, the Pacers were in an obvious fouling mode at the end of the game. Adelman had to go with Matt Barnes. I'm not knocking Matt, but that's the type of situation where a good team pulls out a Kerr or a Hoiberg, to have one more shooter who's been around the block on the floor.

As for some of the other suggestions, why not Malone? He may not be a great athlete, but where do you go get one at this stage, short of a trade? While Malone isn't what he once was, he might come in handy come playoff time. You can never have enough big guys, enough playoff-saavy guys, enough guys who can get a rebound or get to the foul line. And, God forbid, if C-Webb gets hurt again, a combo of Darius and Malone probably could hold down the fort. I have to believe that Malone would be a bigger asset than Eric Daniels or some of the other young guys at the end of the bench.

Some folks on this board seem to think that the Kings would be better off giving their young guys more PT rather than going out and getting free agent help or making a minor trade. I wouldn't argue that point. But Adelman wants a contract extension, so he's going to play whoever he's most comfortable with, and that means veterans.

RA uses short rotation regardless of his contract situation. That is the way he operates. Except Pedja I do not remember a rookie who played a lot in a team coached by RA. That includes Drazen Petrovic
