Kings need a few vets

Others have mentioned him but Reddick would be my dream pickup at this point. We've had the most incredible offseason I could've hoped for but if I'm getting greedy then I'll hold out hope for JJ.

After the college hype died down I never thought I would ever see this post made in any basketball forum anywhere ever.

Ever. :p

Between this post and the My Ideal Offseason thread, I feel like we need to start dreaming bigger around here. Reality might not be much better than these proposals, but can't our wildest dreams at least sound more enticing? ;)

P.S. Yaaay, real smilies are back!  :D

I would be very on-board with MiMi if the price was right, i.e. less than MLE, 3 years or so. But assuming that Omri and Donte will take ALL of the SF minutes (and I hope this is the case), how would the 1/2 minutes be divided?

Tyreke - 36
Beno - 24
Cisco - 18
MiMi - 18

I think I like the fact that any two of them could be on the court at the same time.

So, seeing as we don't need a SF, how about I mention two that haven't been mentioned in this discussion - Linas Kleiza and Josh Childress. Kleiza, just because Petrie seems to be so interested in him just a couple of years ago (if rumors are to be believed) would obviously need to play on the frontline, where we seem to be set. Childress because he seemed versatile enough to play the 2, and because he was a great bench player.

Nah, I'll take a pass on Childress...and Kleiza is staying in Europe for awhile longer with no plans on coming back state side any time soon, so...no to both.

Who is MiMi? Why would we want someone on our team named MiMi? No to Rudy Fernandez. Ive been TOTALLY unimpressed with that guy. Hes another one of those players that had a ton of hype for no reason.

I think that due to the logjam at the SF position, if we really want to take that next step forward, we're probably going to have to give up talent to get what we ultimately need. Garcia, Donte, Omri are cool and all, but I think the real move that has to be made is bringing in Joe Johnson...I think he would allow us to jump up into the somewhat elite almost instantly.
Starters:
Evans
Beno
Johnson
Dalembert
Cousins

Bench:
Thompson
Omri
Mandry
Brockman
Garcia
Whiteside
Backup PG with energy to spell Reke

Not too shabby...of course that's easier said than done of course, I doubt Atlanta would want to lose their best player just like that and will probably give him the keys to the city to keep him there, but its still a thought to move us forward.

Well I'm looking for a John Paxson/Steve Kerr/Damon Jones type... that's the type of guard I want to play next to Tyreke. For me Redick is in that mold, hence I'd be really excited if we signed him.

Hmmmmmm.... McGrady?... I know, but if he takes about MLE might be a good vet influence. Tyreke always said growing up TMac was his guy, and the Maloofs are good friends with him. Might work?..

An injury prone, soft and lazy veteran wouldn't be a good influence on anyone. No....never.

No to Joe Johnson for me. We don't need a ball hog on the team not named Tyreke Evans. I don't we think we need a Joe Johnson calibre shooting guard. We should pick up good fitting decent role players and develop our bench. I am of course, assuming that both Omri and Donte will become fairly good players - at least worthy of starting. And that Tyreke becomes a superstar, and that Cousins also becomes the player we hope he will be. But while there may be a lot assumptions in justifying not needing Joe Johnson calibre players, I strongly believe that these are realistic expectations of our current players.

Also dude didnt even wanna stay here after the trade screw that washed up never was haha let him ring hunt for the Lakers thats what I read he wants to do anyways.

No JJ either please, and no high priced ball hogger for that matter we already have one guy who is great with the ball in his hands plus hes YOUNGER, CHEAPER and might actually WANT to be the man.

He never ever was here to us. The Rockets just rumored TMac to us to kick NY off the fence on a trade for Jordan Hill and Draft Picks on top of things. We still got in the mix, but the NY deal was the main focus for Houston.

Tyreke - 38

Beno - 28
Cisco - 2, maybe a couple minutes at SF.

It of course wouldn't happen exactly like that, guys would get hurt and different matchups would portend different things...but you wouldn't bring on someone as talented as Mike Miller just to have him split time with Cisco.

I have a hard time thinking that the Kings werent the main part of the deal considering we lost our starting 2 and gained the best big besides Yao. I remember NY jumping in last minute because of Tmac not wanting to play for Sac and NY getting wind thinking they could get an expiring.

How about Matt Barnes?.... he is a very good defensive player.... he can play some shooting guard and small forward.... his 3 point shooting is not great, but it is improving... he would be able guard the other teams best wing player and allow tyreke to save his energy....

he is a sactown guy, so i'm sure he would love to come back if he gets a good deal

I haven't seen anyone talk about bringing back Dominic McGuire. I know I'm from Fresno and all so I may sound biased because I loved him here at Fresno State, but he plays lockdown defense (Richardson vs. Phoenix) and makes the occasional highlight dunk (vs. Boston). He was starting until he got hurt. I like his energy off the bench and his length - kind of like a younger Udoka who can't shoot. He's a restricted FA and I know we can bring him back on the cheap. D-Mac is also young (24) and fits in height-wise (6"9" "small" forward). I'm a fan of Mike Miller too or we can go with Eddie House and start Garcia - House is a lights out shooter and has a championship ring to show the young guys. Probably an inexpensive acquisition too. Whiteside is probably going to the D-League for a little while. So...

STARTERS:
G-Evans
G-Miller or Garcia
F-Greene
F-Landry
C-Dalembert

BENCH:
G-Udrih
G-Garcia or House
F-Thompson
F-Casspi
C-Cousins
F-McGuire
F-Brockman

D League:
C-Whiteside

With Dalembert coming off the books after this season, we can go for the home run with Carmelo in 2011 - now THAT would be something special. I don't want Petrie to blow all the cap space on a bunch of mid-level guys. We already have a solid team in place without needing to spend big money right now.

What about Delonte West? Once LeBron abandons the Cavs, that roster could be the worst in the league. He is on a one year deal, can definitely shoot, and can play with a ball dominate star. I think the Cavs are going to blow up their roster so he could probably be gotten for a TPE and 2016 2nd rounder.

Also if mid season we wanted to do a trade we would have $20 M in expiring contracts: West+Landry+Dalembert. That would be quite a trade package.

Before the 2010 playoffs I would of been aboard the Delonte West bandwagon. I think he's an amazing talent and a underrated player in this league, plus he's a hell of a soundbite.

But a tmz level rumor surfaced about him and a certain players mother during the playoff series with the Celts, it's probably false but you just never know and hence I don't think this type of guy would be a good fit in the locker room ESPECIALLY if we are clamoring for vet leadership.

I hadn't realized this, as they say never trade for guys with neck tatoos. I think we should go with Bricklayers idea and sign Mike Miller. The Wizards for just about tapped themselves out with Hinrich and Yi and won't be resigning him.

I wouldn't mind bringing Joe Johnson to the Kings, but we wouldn't have to give up any of our players to get him. We could sign him with our cap space. If he wants a max deal (meaning sign-&-trade), then I say NO DEAL. As for starting him at SF, that would be a mistake. He is a SG and playing him at the 3 would give us a size disagvantage that we don't need to give to other teams with Donte and Casspi sitting there able to play. I would put Beno on the bench were I would prefer him to be anyway.

I'm perfectly fine letting this young team grow up together at this stage of the game. The only reason I'd consider brining in a vet would be due to Tyreke's comment on the matter. And I don't know if he meant that we need to bring in a vet who is going to get significant playing time, or if he wants someone who can bring that emotional leadership, that will fire players up, and not be afraid to get in players faces if it doesn't look as if they are doing everything they can to succeed and win at the highest level.
I'd imagine that he's looking for the latter. Someone who's been around, a warrior who is not afraid to kick some teeth in if lack of maturity is causing a player to not work hard enough on and off the court.
And even though we don't need any more big men, I guess that's sort of the perception I have.
We all know that Landry is tough and gritty, but he may not have the personality to be that veteran emotional enforcer.
To be honest, I guess that Garcia would be the closest person we have to that sort of personality, and maybe if he's able to come in and play extended minutes, he can be that guy.
We'll see.

As far as what this team needs in order to succeed, when I look up and down the roster I'm just tremendously impressed with what Petrie has been able to accomplish.

If Cisco can play the role that those of use with expectations think he can then I think the 2-spot is secure. Cisco just needs to be able to hit the open shot, provide some ball-handling relief, score with high efficiency whenever a team puts their PG on him, and play tenacious defense. I think all those things are definitely with-in the realm of possibility, so if he's healthy, hopefully he'll get the starting SG spot to prove us right.
I would be OK with a Mike Miller signing, provided that we don't break the bank, though I don't think it's particularly necessary as a piece to take us over the top.
I feel the same about JJ and Morrow, though I'd prefer Miller over either of them.
I would like to see Dominic McGuire back as well. He showed signs of being able to play great defense last season, and could develop into a fine wing role-player off the bench.

All-in-all, this team looks to have the majority of the pieces in place, it's just going to take some time for it all to come together. Frankly, there are few teams I'd trade rosters and cap-flexibility with at this point in time, if the goal was to build a championship team with sustaining power.

What about a guy like Anthony Parker? He's a vet that has been to the playoff. He's a good shooter and seemingly a nice locker room presence kind of guy.

Completely agree with you regarding being impressed with what Petrie has put together, and in the sense that I can't actually think of a team that I would trade rosters and cap flex with, which is amazing to me.

The more I think about it, I think we get maybe one more guard that can shoot and play d at around 3-4 million, retain our capspace for flexibility purposes, resign Dally for around 7-8 million next year (depending on how this year goes, how he plays, how our bigs develop) which will give us more capspace, and then late next year, or next offseason, add that final piece as we begin to make our push/begin the dynasty.

The best part about our situation is that we just have so much young talent, and we have so much flexibility..... it's kind of amazing.

Mwaahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa it's good to be a Kings fan!!!!!!!!

Ronnie Brewer won't be offered QO from Memphis. He will be a free agent. Not the outside threat the Kings need, but certainly they could use an athlete like him as a disruptor.
