Kings have been settling for silver linings and moral victories for many, many consecutive years now. At what point does enough become enough?

Not even gonna justify that with a response. If you don't know why this year is so different, I'm not gonna bother to explain it to you.

seriously... I'm tired of coming close but not winning.. the same crap has been happening the last how many years??

Time for a deep breath and a reality check...

The Mavericks are a very good team. The Kings are NOT a good team.

The Mavericks played below their norm. The Kings did their best without their best player and kept the game close.

I should not be screaming obscenities at my TV. I should be happy that the Kings have come back this far. Last year I would have known at halftime the game was over, finished, done.

I blame IT far too much.

Okay, that's it. I'm going to go have a glass of brandy.

I don't think the Mavs are "a very good team", but they're clearly a better team than us, especially with Cousins out. I think we are better talent wise with our big 3, though. They will be a playoff team but it's not like we lost to a top 4 team in the West. Sooner or later these moral victories don't really mean anything, you know? I'm not saying they didn't play hard, they did (at least some of the players, imo), but....yeah, a glass of booze sounds good.

It was literally the most bonehead non-play of the season. They inbound to Calderon, who then stands there for 2 seconds and IT doesn't even attempt to foul

Of course some question fi Calderon is a guy you want to foul -- I recall him chasing all time FT records a few years ago. :)

Malone summarized: First quarter defense - good. Second quarter - crap. Get on them at halftime. Third quarter defense - good. Fourth quarter - scoreboard.

That's my interpretation of what he said.

"It's very hard to win on the road when you beat yourself."

Malone, however, is nowhere near as angry as he was the other night.

Malone was asked about possibly giving Jimmer a shot. He said he was nervous about taking Rudy and IT out at the same time and Rudy had to get a breather. (That's paraphrased...) I think he's being pretty honest. He did say it wasn't anything against Jimmer, it was just him being nervous about the only scorers being off the court at the same time.

Stupid question - Are they playing better without Cousins?

Malone (who actually fought rolling his eyes)...No. We're 0 and 6 without the big guy.

Beating themselves is what bad teams with bad sub patterns do.

Maybe jimmer got traded to Denver.

Jimmer is a scorer but whatever. He's not coming in to play defense. I'm starting to distrust Malone.

I don't know if I'd say the Mavericks are a "very" good team: they're in a dog fight with Memphis for the eighth seed. Unfortunately, as much as they're not very good, we're not any good, especially without Cousins.

True. I was going to say the Kings are a "very bad" team so I wanted to balance that with the "very good" for the Mavericks. However, in the middle of actually typing the sentence I decided at the last minute to soften the blow to the Kings but didn't go back and remove the now unbalanced "very"... ;)

EDIT: I probably should have focused on the experienced veterans of the Mavs, which I think was also a key component.

The silver-lining in this game is that Rudy Gay continues to be amazing. And despite the reputation over the last couple of seasons, he seems to be wanting to make the right play most of the time.
He passed his inefficient scoring ways from Toronto off to Isaiah Thomas

Not so fast, my friend... [/Corso]

They're only the eighth seed, and they could easily get passed up, especially if Memphis stays hot.

Starting to think IT has the effect on this team that Monta Ellis had on the Warriors. And they really took off when he left........

But reason they finally let go of Ellis was because they wanted to turn keys over to Curry and knew they could never co-exist. So, that might mean Kings don't discard IT but send him back to 6th man status since at this point who replaces IT as the real starting PG??

Well, Brian Shaw seems to be determined to not play Miller. And they just lost Nate Robinson (aka Isaiah Thomas v.1.0) for the season, to an ACL.

I'm not worried about Malone. The team can win some games when Gay and Cousins are healthy, and he's dealing with a roster that will hopefully have at least 2 (hopefully 3) new starters by the start of the next season.
Would I like him to give more time to anyone else at the PG position? Sure. Yeah, he preaches defense, yeah most of the players respond to it like a kid with a peanut allergy in a Skippy factory, but he's trying to hammer it home, and some are listening.
We'll get a better sense of Malone after the trade deadline - that's my guess for when the minutes will really change for those not named Gay or Cousins.

And for the love of Pete, can we stop calling them a big three? We have two star players.

Yea thats fine with me. as long as he isn't running the team and chucking 20 shots and thinking he is the leader of this team like he said the other night

And there's the rub. If we do get another PG, I have every fear - however irrational - that IT simply will not accept being returned to the bench, even if it is as 6th man. IT doesn't envision himself as a 6th man, and especially not for the Kings. The only way for him to accept that is to get a Tyreke Evans kind of deal.

Balloonjuice to that part. McCallum may not be half the offensive player that Thomas is, but I've seen enough to know that he's three times the player on the other end. If Malone's rant about defense after the Memphis game wasn't just lip service, he would sack up, and play McCallum at point guard.

I'm not calling for the kid to start, but he should be getting at least ten minutes a game. I mean, what's he think is gonna happen if he plays Thomas ten fewer minutes? That we'll lose?

Right? That has to be the most overused, misused term in the English language since Alanis Morrissette dropped Ironic.

If anybody is willing to give up lottery pick for him right now, just take it. Decide, what to do with the asset later.
