Kings looking to trade Jason Thompson

My problem with it is Landry obviously isn't the answer at pf. So why the hell don't we try uhhh....... JT at pf before giving him spot minutes on the wing and trading him? There is one player on our frontline who has underperformed compared to the others, and that guy is Landry, yet he's the only one who hasn't has his minutes or position jerked around. JT could be a very effective and efficient starting pf in this league, and maybe a better starting pf than Landry right now at this point in time.

I know one thing. Our defense at the 4 spot, and rebounding at the 4 spot, are near last in the league, and JT would instantly improve both.

I've watched most of the games this season and you can't really grumble about Jacksons play; considering most expected him to just wave towels.

It's like every trade. Who are you going to get for him? The Kings need quickness at the wing. They've been torched by Gay and Beasley, and it's not a coincidence. They have a deadbeat 3 in Greene and another guy, Casspi, who can't guard starting 3s. Also, whoever Beno seems to guard has a very nice night. So there are needs that eventually need to be met. It's not all about Thompson being so bad; it might be more about our
3s being so bad.

Jackson has played better than Thompson. I'll believe my eyes anyday over a stat line. I'll grant you Thompson is more athletic than Jackson and is a better rebounder. In fact, despite the criticism of him at the three, he defended Beasley better than our so-called 3s did. But we all know that Thompson is challenged in the mental aspects of the game. Do they keep a stat for stupid plays? (Yeah, I know, turnovers, but that's just the half of it). Will the light come on with Thompson sometime in the future? Heck if I know, but nobody can really know on a thing like that. What we do know is that he played four years in college and and now three years in the pros and he continues to make brain-dead plays - over and over and over again. Also, we know that the guy works very hard. It's not like he hasn't tried to work on his game. I'll give him that. Some guys can study for years and they'll never pass Chem 1A.
I don't want to get into another discussion over what is and what is not basketball IQ. Rather than that, let me say that I think Thompsons BB IQ is just fine. His problem isn't in knowing what to do, its in the doing of it. Thompson spent most of his early years playing the guard positon. He even played PG at one time. So I think he understands the game. His problem is that you have a 6'11" player with a PG's mentality. He's still trying to get a grip on how to play as a big man. I'm not excusing him. He needs to put it together. I just don't think it helps to keep getting moved from one position to another. I had the privilege of sitting in the stands with his mother and father for a whole game. As always its enlightening to talk to a players parents. His father is quite a physical specimen himself, and I suspect he could play PF or Center if not for being a little vertically challenged.

I know Thompson is dedicated and works hard on his game. I thought maybe he had crossed the barrier at the end of last season. Now it doesn't appear so. I don't know if he'll ever make the transition from guard to big man. But if he ever does, he's going to be a very valuable player. He just doesn't have a feel for how to use his body in the post. Maybe he never will. But let me ask you this. With the way he runs the floor, how do you think he would do matched up with Steve Nash? Somehow I have the feeling that he would suddenly be a different player. We'll probably never know the Nash part. I'd like to start him at PF and leave him there for 4 or 5 weeks. Give him a fair shot at proving he belongs there. Probably won't happen on this crazy team. Players fall in and out of favor faster than a speeding bullet.

Why not trade Landry, he is jacking up retarded 18footers and not playing any defense or rebounding. Plus the league still may view him as an efficent scorer so his value might be higher. I don't want to trade our only legit size PF for a SF when we can't even get Greene on the court.

Why, why, WHY would we get rid of size, and a solid role player in JT? If our two "Divas" will handle the scoring, we'll still need a guy inside to do the dirty work. JT is that guy. He doesn't need to be spectacular - just solid. 15/7 is pretty darn solid. How's Landry doing? I think he's had a total of 7 rebounds all season.

JT is not the problem. Wishful thinking from some GM who needs a solid PF.

It's not just execution. It's decision making. The obvious evidence is his constantly dribble in traffic when he shouldn't. He's not dribbling poorly; he's dribbling when he shouldn't be dribbling at all.. How many games does he have to play in order to learn that simple rule? Whether it's center or pf, he shouldn't be putting the ball down in traffic.

Regarding his play in the post, per an unamed scouting source: "Thompson has bad feet." In other words, he ain't going to make you forget Gasol anytime soon. I don't have any illusions at all about Thompson ever being a decent post player. Thompson's post moves border on the scary and the hilarious; I can't figure out which. At best, maybe in the future he can finally confine his game to a narrow space so that he only does two or three things, and that's it. Then his positives wouldn't be so undercut by his negatives. Last year when he played center, he did OK. He didn't do a lot except take the open face-up jump shot in the offense, but that's fine, as it suits his narrow skill set. I don't like it when good guys and hard workers don't ever become good. But that's just the way it is sometimes....

I am really starting to dislike westphal and the way he's jerking some of our young guys around. Greene and JT are both in the dog house now apparently.

Well 6'11, 250lbs JT cant play the 3...So of course we should ship him out. I mean, that makes way more sense than playing him at his natural position and letting him get into some kind of groove.

I was watching the Raptors feed for a while, and they mentioned that Kleiza was out with an injured achilles. Still, however, no JT.

Let's just give up on potential for a scrub player who won't be here in next year, with a sample size of 5 games. Great idea.

I must say it is a little interesting that Kleiza does not play tonight, and JT has not played in the first half.
Per Westphal, JT is behind Dally and Cousins at the center position, and behind Landry and Jackson at the pf position. Thus, no minutes.

Thompson is third string center and pf. Yeah, I think a trade sounds very possible.

If JT isnt traded by our next game .. wow.

It really is crazy how things have changed with this team. Its almost too much to digest. Jason Thompson, the guy everyone said was the most impressive guy during camp/really took a leadership position - stuck on the bench.

I'm sick to my stomach. This team/organization better do SOMETHING. idc if we have a different strenghtening coach to start the next game, but something has to be different NOW.
