Kings looking to draft Cousins

That's what we heard before the draft. In my case, I was hoping that it was all bogus and that we would take Rubio if he was available. The writing was on the wall that we didn't like Rubio though. We brought him in and gave him a shot, but I never heard anything positive coming from the Kings brass.
 
I think this is a no brainer if the first four picks (in any order) are wall, favors, turner, johnson. Of course you never know.

Didn't the Kings work out Rubio last year and a report came out saying "they worked out Rubio earlier today shooting and dribbling around a chair, the chair won".

Myself and a few others were lobbying for Tyreke last year, but the majority of the posters were completely sold on the Kings drafting Rubio. So I think your using a little hindsight.

I disagree. I followed the draft more heavily last year, and most of the draft sites had us taking Tyreke. The general wants of the posters doesn't equal what the experts predict.

I meant the mock drafts and "experts" has us pegged for Evans, info leaked about us drafting him, I agree though must of us fans wanted Rubio.

I think your correct, if you were paying attention. Some of us were and others, who don't post regularly or read the posts regularly, probably had no idea.

As far as Petrie keeping everything close to the vest. He does! Or at least he tries. Much easier for him to do with a trade though than it is with a draft pick. There are a lot more people involved in the draft process than in a trade. In a trade Petrie doesn't need to talk to anyone but the Maloof's, and possibly Westphal. Thats a pretty small group and it would be easy to figure out who leaked.

But with the draft its a lot more difficult. Reynolds, and the entire scouting dept are involved. All it would take is for a scout to tell his wife who tells a friend and wa la you have a leak. I might add that leaks at this time of the year are fairly useless anyway. There's so much BS being spread around, there's no way to tell the truth from the fairy tales.
 
Out of the 12 mocks picked for nba.com's consensus mock draft last year, on the eve of the draft, here's how people scored:

#1. 12 out of 12 correctly picked Griffin.
#2. 9 out of those 12 correctly picked Thabeet at #2.
#3. Of the 9 who correctly picked Thabeet at #2, 3 correctly picked Harden at #3.
#4. By this point, 12 out of 12 had screwed up. Nobody predicted the first 4 picks correctly.

Being vaguely mysterious without going for a specific reaction seems lazy to me. It's better than blurting out the truth, but just because you're being mysterious doesn't mean you're doing everything to sway things to go your way. Sometimes you have to actively mislead teams when playing the GM game, not just be hard to predict.

I'm not saying anything about Petrie per se, but just responding to the idea that being mysterious means that he's mastering the mind games of the draft. There's more to it than that.
 
Okay, excuse me for being skeptical but how is this breaking news? Pretty much everyone on the planet can reach the same conclusion if you think about. Now if it said the Kings were going to pick Epke Udoh, that would be breaking news...

Cousins is so obvious a odd-on favorite with so many people that this is just isn't a shock. Is it true? I'm pretty sure Cousins is on the really short list but to say it's a done deal is to deny that something could happen before our pick that would require a different selection.

I hope it's Cousins; my gut instinct tells me it's Cousins. Until David Stern makes the announcement, however, there is no iron-clad guarantee. None.
 
Like a few others have said, it all depends on the 4 picks ahead of us. He might not be available at #5. It's going to be interesting tomorrow night.
 
IMO that good, you need to have confidence and yourself and the drive to not only be the best, but the greatest. Rather him say this than something like " I'm the 3rd best player in the draft, and will not be a game changer ".

Whatever team gets him will get a good player, how good is the question.

You really can't fault him for being confident in himself. At this level, and considering how much flack and hate he's taken (apparently even Jay Bilas believes he will fail), if he's not going to believe in himself, who will? And based on his college portfolio, you wouldn't call it foolish pride, would you?

Methinks he will have a chip on his shoulder when we get him.

Big, nasty, skilled, and out to prove the doubters wrong...I reaaaally hope he drops to us at 5.

I think our biggest risk is the Nets at 3, but Cuz would be a pretty bad fit next to Lopez, so hopefully they go with Johnson or Favors.

Yeah I remember seeing just before our pick they were talking about how we would probably go for Tyreke and that was a mistake. Of course I didn't follow the draft at all when we went from 1st to 4th. All I was doing was muttering to myself "this shlt is rigged, rigged!" and I completely spaced until draft day.
