Out of the 12 mocks picked for nba.com's consensus mock draft last year, on the eve of the draft, here's how people scored:

#1. 12 out of 12 correctly picked Griffin.
#2. 9 out of those 12 correctly picked Thabeet at #2.
#3. Of the 9 who correctly picked Thabeet at #2, 3 correctly picked Harden at #3.
#4. By this point, 12 out of 12 had screwed up. Nobody predicted the first 4 picks correctly.

Draft Express was 100% with the top 5 last year
Draft Express was 100% with the top 10 in 2008
Draft Express had the 4th and 5th pick reversed in 2007 but got the 6th

can't find anything earlier than that as far as mocks from DX

BTW Draft Express has the Kings selecting Demarcus Cousins tomorrow night

Good stuff. At #5 there is just no way to know.

I think your correct, if you were paying attention. Some of us were and others, who don't post regularly or read the posts regularly, probably had no idea.

As far as Petrie keeping everything close to the vest. He does! Or at least he tries. Much easier for him to do with a trade though than it is with a draft pick. There are a lot more people involved in the draft process than in a trade. In a trade Petrie doesn't need to talk to anyone but the Maloof's, and possibly Westphal. Thats a pretty small group and it would be easy to figure out who leaked.

But with the draft its a lot more difficult. Reynolds, and the entire scouting dept are involved. All it would take is for a scout to tell his wife who tells a friend and wa la you have a leak. I might add that leaks at this time of the year are fairly useless anyway. There's so much BS being spread around, there's no way to tell the truth from the fairy tales.
I wouldn't doubt that Petrie wouldn't give his opinion to the scouts. Personally, I think Petrie has a better track record on security that most in national security positions.:D

not really. we already had an idea that we wouldn't pick rubio.

Yah, I kinda had a feeling as well but still got pretty damn pissed! I am VERY glad I was wrong about the pick though, and I hope to see Rubio in the NBA soon because I am a HUGE fan of his still.

Cousins would be great at 5, but I have serious doubts he'll be there because another team will give up a lot to Minnesota for the 4th pick.

If Wes Johnson goes #3, I think Minny makes a deal for the 4.

They changed it a few hours before the draft from what I remember. I saw that and thought to myself (ohhhhhh crap) as they usually are spot on with those last minute changes.
According to their website, they last updated it at 7:35:31 PM. That's 31 seconds after the clock started ticking for the Clips to decide their choice for #1 pick. That's cutting it close, alright.

He's certainly cocky, I'll give him that. Could be good or bad. I think it will be okay, at least initially, as I think he can see Tyreke's star power outshines his own at the moment.
That's not cocky. Really that's just typical draft confidence. You hear it from a lot of prospects over the years, it's not that unusual.

If Johnson goes third we win no matter what. It's either Favors or Cousins.

This post makes me smile, I love me some Favors!:D

I watched TheJump special last night and they had a segment on DF, this kid gets it, has all the upside that Cousins has with none of the red flags. I got the feeling he wants to be much much more then just the next Amare.

Looking at the consensus mock draft last year, 6 out of 12 had us taking Evans. Those six mocks had Rubio off the board before the Kings' pick. So I think most Kings fans were excited when Rubio dropped into our laps and GP picked Evans instead of Rubio.

Sometimes its actually better to be smart than lucky. ;) Rubio may still come over and be great, but I think Evans turned out to be the right choice for the Kings last year.

ahh yah they had the top 5 correct at least at about 2pm or something.. they might have updated after that. I remember it showing the Kings taking Evans. I could be wrong about the other top 5 but I think they had it right earlier than 30 seconds before the first pick or whatever.

I didn't say there wasn't.
I think I know exactly what you're saying Vlade. There is more to the GM offseason games then being under lock and key. You don't want to act like a total clown like Kahn, dissing entire camps and having diarreah of the mouth, however at the same time you do not want to be to introvert and run the risk of other teams trying to jump in front of you.

I was watching "coming attractions" on NBA tv earlier and David Aldride thinks the Kings are completely sold on Cousins, and that he would be great here and could possibly put up mnstrous #'s because Tyreke will be distributing the ball.
He said that he also believes Cousins is going to want to prove the naysayers wrong, and show the world that he is the best talent in this draft, and that he CAN be coached. I like Aldridge, and I hope he is right.

If he's trying to posture and play games with the other teams in the draft, then I hope whatever he does has a specific purpose, and not just trying to be vaguely mysterious.
WTF? Of course Petrie has a specific purpose. Im starting to think that you're arguing for the sake of arguing at this point.

Am I the only one interested in Cousins because he will have good stats in NBA 2k11? If we draft Monroe, he'll only be good for jump shots. I'll be Shaqing inside with Cousins.

I can understand that but with four players (and only 4) to be drafed before our pick clearly Kings will get a good big man - only question is will whoever that is turn out to be REALLY good. Most likely four selected before our pick will be Wall, Turner, Johnson and ? (either Cousins or Favors going #4). With Kings dead set on a big man, that would leave GP with choice between Monroe and Favors. I choose Favors although I would be ok with any of three big men in the running - prefering in order Cousins, Favors, Monroe.

I read somewhere that the Nets are back on board with Favors at 3. So I don't know if we'll hear anything definitive until right before the draft.

Let's just pray that nj selects Johnson. That way no matter what idiotic thing the wolves do means that at least favors or cousins will still be available.

Henry Abbott of Truehoop and ESPN is chatting with prospects now, Cousins is live in the chatroom with him, he was just asked this question:

Is Cousins ok with Sacramento! I hope so, I'd love to have him there!

Answer: DeMarcus Cousins is here, and answers: It's a good city. I love the staff. I'd love to play with Tyreke, who's part of the Coach Cal Family, and I think we can be a good inside/outside combination.

I hope we will really get him.
GP get the job done!!!

Yep, New Jersey very much a big wild card since 99% chance Wall and Turner go #1-#2. That Nets pick at #3 is up in the air totally or there's a ruse going on since their GM Thorn said today Monroe is in the picture for their selection - SI.com reports that tid bit of info.

If they took Monroe that would leave Wes Johnson sitting there for Minny at #4. Would they pass on him - doubtful. But if they did, then maybe the Syracuse star tumbles all the way down to #6 Warriors or #7 Clippers.

Tomorrow is shaping up very interesting - and it would seem a lot of draft day trades could happen to really spice it up.

My guess is that talking about Johnson was them trying to feel out Minnesota and seeing if they could pry some pieces out of them for Johnson.

Could moderators please change the title of this thread? It might be a bit confusing on draft night if you keep half-assed rumors under the title "Breaking news".
