Kings looking to draft Cousins

Didnt it come out a day or so before last year's draft that we were going with Reke?

I think its a no brainer. Monroe over Cuz would just be silly.

..Cuz being there at 5 is the iffy part. Hopefully one of the Nets or Minny gets the Wes lust.

Wesley Johnson is coveted by both New Jersey and Minnesota, so I am not worried at all. All that I did worry about was if we would pick him if he was available.

You guys really like believing that the Kings would never let anything leak. A basketball team is an extremely public entity and there's no for sure way to keep things from leaking, I don't care how secretive their GM is.

I agree, its surprising people think Geoff is some type of super GM who never talks to anyone but himself.

After seeing so many people who seem to feel like GP is secret agent like in his dealings I actually wondered why it is common belief nothing could possibly leak. I think I am more with you Vlade in thinking the public nature of an NBA team makes it highly possible for a leak.

Kings might take Cousins, but I don't buy that anybody knows what GP will do for sure.
Yeah... the same guy said that we were drafting Tiago Splitter not long ago. I don't think that any of these writers have enough credibility for me to worry about, I'm just gonna wait and see.

Henry Abbott of Truehoop and ESPN is chatting with prospects now, Cousins is live in the chatroom with him, he was just asked this question:

Is Cousins ok with Sacramento! I hope so, I'd love to have him there!

Answer: DeMarcus Cousins is here, and answers: It's a good city. I love the staff. I'd love to play with Tyreke, who's part of the Coach Cal Family, and I think we can be a good inside/outside combination.

Did either of you see the Sammy trade coming? How bout the Tyreke pick last year. Just curious.

I wouldn't be surprised, but I seriously doubt this statement...

Sorry, but I just don't think people get wind of what GP's going to do.
Your statement reads as if you think GP is the only one that knows. That's not the case. GP, Jerry Reynolds, Westphal, All the scounts, possible other members of the coaching staff, and even the Maloofs know what has been discussed, and what the draft wishilist is in order of who they will take at what spot if available.

With multiple fail points word is bound to leak.

I saw the Evans pick coming last year because that's where everyone was saying they were going with the pick. That was not a secret.

This still doesn't prove that he can keep everything a secret. I'm sorry, there is huge interest in the top picks in the draft, it's not just people who are interested in the Kings, so there are people who are going to want to find out about who they want at their pick. I'm not saying this is necessarily true, but the belief that he wouldn't allow anything to leak is silly and seems to come out of some desire to believe Petrie is some super secret CIA agent or something.

No, Petrie has a wizard spell on all of them. He controls everything with his magic wand.

I don't think its so much of what gets leaked, but all the smokescreens and media speculation that gets thrown into the mix, while at the same time they really keep their intentions fairly well hidden. Almost as good as you can hope for. But are there leaks ? absolutely, sure ... DO we know what is and isn't a leak ? < - That is the question.

Or maybe Petrie truly covets Monroe and secretly wants somebody to move up to the #4 pick and nab Cousins before he can pick him at #5? Then he has the pressure off him to take a chance on Cousins. I've never heard of the Kings front office coming right out and saying they would take a guy. Petrie usually doesn't bow to pressure to pick a guy. For example last year with Rubio. But that was a clear cut case of like and not so much like. This year it could be a toss up and he just wants to give fate a helping hand.

The Kings have proven pretty adept at keeping their moves undercover. Better than many teams. That's just the history here. Marty McNeal (former Kings beat writer) just wrote that in 18 years he's never gotten a hint of what GP would do.

The thing about this rumor is, if it happens, which is certainly a realistic possibility, people will say their sources were right. If it doesn't happen they'll just say it was only a rumor. Its not like its a wild prediction.

i dont think petrie cares who people want. take notice of how last year went down... he will take who he views as best available regardless of what other people view.

Or is just throwing people off balance and making them think twice, and if he can do that then he is doing his job.
If he's trying to posture and play games with the other teams in the draft, then I hope whatever he does has a specific purpose, and not just trying to be vaguely mysterious.

Just like this episode oh House I was watching a while back. This magician predicted his own death, so if he dies people will claim he was psychic or whatever, and if he doesn't he can claim it was side effect of the thing wrong with him ... win - nothing scenario.
