couldnt we just resign tyreke after we sign Iggy? how much cap do we have after counting tyrekes cap hold?
No. Reke's cap hold is like $13mil, or something close. Signing Iggy before Reke is impossible

Unfortunately we can't. If the cap hold is 13 million (I'm not so sure about that, but it should be something close), we would be at 54/55 million. Add the two rookies, and we have no money left (the salary cap should be 58.5 million next season).
The problem is that we are wasting our money. Hayes + Outlaw + Thornton + Jimmer + Salmons are on the books for 27 million next year. We need to amnesty John, trade Jimmer for nothing (and we would save around 10 million) and possibly trade Thornton.

That seemed like a deal that made sense for both teams, but now that they've agreed with Dunleavy they probably aren't in the market for more shooters.

Yea pretty sure. Haven't looked at the exact numbers, but we'd have somewhere around $8 mil in cap space. Not going to be enough

Unless the CBA has changed, if we can sign Iggy, and I just say if as there may be other players we want, we then can sign Tyreke and go over the salary cap (which is different than the luxury cap) and we can sign our drafted players. Somebody correct me if I am wrong but I think we can sign the players we drafted even if we are over the cap. We also can use the MLE to get Daly. (just had to throw that in there).

What I wanted to be sure about is whether somehow we are blocked from signing Iggy for reasons other than economics and the CBA so thanks. Maybe someone will buy Jimmer. Would that help? A trade using MT would allow us to get a player at 15% less than MT's salary. That's $1.3 mil saved. If we don't sign IT (apoplectic fit sensed) it would free up another million. It seems we have options if we really think Iggy is important. Am I wrong about the finances? I'm just winging it from memories probably long since forgotten.

. If we amnesty Salmons, we take 7.5 million away. Then, we would have 11.5 million available. I don't know about the rookies, but I'm sure you can sign them even if you are over the cap.

I suspect it means they would let Tyreke go for nothing and free up cap space.

If the Kings let Tyreke walk, I believe they have around $22 million in cap space if they amnesty Salmons too. So, maybe they think they need to overpay Iggy and can't afford Tyreke. Maybe the choice is coming down to having Iggy vs Reek? Probably why they are talking to Calderon because the Kings could probably afford Iggy + Calderon, but not Iggy + Reke.

I think the rookies are OK and can be signed if we are over the cap. Now how about trading MT and either trading IT as a package with MT or whoever, or not signing IT?
The major point is that I think money can be freed up in more ways than what has been discussed in order to sign Iggy.

That would be great, but first you have to find a team willing to take MT for basically nothing. it's not so easy I guess. The easiest way to free up some cap space is to amnesty Salmons and trade Jimmer for a future second round pick.

If Tyreke insists on $11 mil or more, he just may have to sell his new home. Faced with that, he might think $10 mil is OK. I may be confusing the line of thought but we would need to sign him before he signed an offer sheet. I don't know where that would leave us if we did all the other things also. Anyway, as far as I am concerned, I value Iggy more than Tyreke which I might have to think about for awhile because of Iggy's age.

Maxing or close to maxing out Iggy can be such a franchise crippling mistake.
Close to 30, a transition+defense guy relying a lot on his athletic ability who isn't a good shooter(and %s seem to drop) and in general seemed to have started his decline, while having injury issues before.
Recipe for disaster if we give him close to max, or max, 2-3 years from now.
Not to mention that even if he's healthy and has no worries he's not a max player to begin with.

Man they absolutely need too find a way too retain Reke and sign Iggy... I dont care if we give up a future draft pick plus all our other assets. an Reke/Mclemore/Iggy/Cousins Core is playoff bound possibly next year. Im sure we could unload some bad contracts with picks, JT, IT, rights to bodiroga.........., perhaps ?

I'm scared to death about giving Iggy a big long term deal, let alone max.
Those type of contracts for guys in his situation and career arc usually end up one of those notorious 'worst most unmovable contracts in the NBA' types down the line.

In fairness, GWall isn't nearly as skilled as Iggy. It's close to what Iggy was currently on anyway. His deal will also come off the books when it's time to re-up Ben so if they overpay and make the team better in the process it's all good. Maybe.
