Kings get #5 pick

I will never again hope we tank for any reason whatsoever. We'll get a good player at 5, but you can't count on anything with this lottery. Minn, GS, and Sac all got royally screwed.

get use to the lottery kids...we are going to be seeing it for years to come.

I don't think so. I believe that things are going to continue to turn around for our beloved Kings. Come on Petrie, do what you do best!!! I would love to have Cousins, and it just may happen. I believe!

Possible picks at #5:

"Demarcus Cousins" can drop as low as 6th according to nbadraft.net
"Wesley Johnson" is alright, good shooter.
"Hassan Whiteside" is still a possibility, we will see if the Kings give him a workout.
"Greg Monroe" has great footwork and finishes well.
"Al-Farouq Aminu" could be worth the risk, lets see after workouts
"Cole Aldrich" legit Center

theres a couple other worthy names but the picture i want to paint is a top 5 pick isn't bad at all. Obviously our moves will be made in trades.

I think there is a good shot that we still wind up with the opportunity to pick Cousins or Favors. Every year there is at least one surprise pick at the top and one early guy falls. The question is will we pass on that guy too?

Yeah, I don't see something like Rubio happening though. Rubio was such an unknown while all of the guys at the top this season are known guys from the NCAA that have been measured up and seen against other NBA competition. But maybe, just maybe, we can get Cousins from Minny. I guess what Minny could also do is trade Al Jeff...

Come on guys say it with me

IN PETRIE WE TRUST!!!!!

we have capspace and a top 5 pick.... its not so bad.

Maloofs will not spend money this offseason with the CBA being renegotiated this year. The Maloofs and all the other small market teams will hold off spending hoping the new CBA will level the playing field and they can get more bang for the buck in 2011. Not that the new CBA will do anything to help small market teams. It is the perception that it MIGHT help small market teams that will close the wallets of the small market teams. That means that the Kings will be a lottery team again next year. Probably get hosed next year too... And who wants to see a perennial lottery team? The lottery is supposed to make sure the worst teams get the best chance at top 5 picks, but in reality the way the lottery is set up, all it does is give big market teams a chance at the top 5 no matter what their record as long as they miss the playoffs. What a load of BS! :D

Ok. So its not horrible. =/

No, it's not as horrible as picking #6, worst statistical pick Kings could have ended up with. So whether you call #5 horrible or not, it's no good.

Good was ending up with a pick at 1 thur 4. GP needs to deal now and not wait in order to get Cousins or Favors - not ending up with Johnson, Monroe, etc.

Is anyone on here really surprised..

I will tell you one thing, that is the last lottery I will ever watch. What a ****ing waste of time!

We've got to have hope!

Are you serious the 5th pick!!!! Oh well we still got Tyreke but here is how i look at it, also expect their to be alot of trading in this years draft ;).

1.Wizards - John Wall
2.76ers - Demarcus Cousins
3.Nets - Evan Turner
4.Timberwolves - Wesley Johson
5.Sacramento- We are still in a good spot because hopefully one of those players above will fall to us but best players avaible would be Al Farouq Aminu, Derrick Favors, and Cole Aldrich

You have no idea what you are talking about if you think there is no way the Maloofs will spend this year. Not with everything they have said the past few days.

I am really excited now that we have our pick. I was worried we were going to get 6th since that would have put us at a huge disadvantage for drafting a top player, I have to say I was disappointed with the 5th since it limits us, but overall I think we will be getting a very good player, I don't think we need to get discouraged too much since there is still Wesley Johnson, Greg Monroe, and Cousins if we are lucky.

IMO Minny will do 1 of 3 things with the 4th pick:

1. Take Wesley Johnson
2. Take Demarcus Cousins and trade Al Jeff or Love
3. Trade the pick down (maybe 1 slot to us?) for another pick and another good piece

I was saying 5th all along.... this is the Kings we talking about baby!!! lol.

Anyways the wolves at 4 gives me hope. No matter what we do we need to draft BPA period. We suck so we need talent no matter where it is...

I don't know why you guys have so much faith in Minnesota not taking a big because they have Love and Jefferson. #1 they were rumored to be shopping Jefferson all season, and #2 they took 3 PG's in the first round last year, there's no reason to think they'll be drafting for need this year

I think one thing us fans needs to file away under fairy tale: "moving up or down in the lottery".

I'm betting the house Petrie does not move up or down in the lottery picks. He will take his man at #5 and be satisfied.

If Minny doesn't like Cousins, they'll trade him rather than just pass him up. He's too valuable to just pass him up for Johnson.

I agree that the Nets will not select Cousins, as Favors or even Wes Johnson would fit far better with Harris and Lopez.
So that leaves Minnesota with the opportunity to select either Wes Johnson or DeMarcus Cousins. Now, Wes Johnson fills a need for the Wolves and was one of the best players in college last year, while Cousins is going to be joining Al Jefferson and Kevin Love and doesn't make anywhere near as good a fit.

So there is a possibility that Cousins might slip to us.

Now if the Wolves contacted Petrie to see what we'd be willing to give up in order to let Cousins fall to us, what do you think his response should be?
In other words, what would you be willing to give up to the Wolves if they came calling in regards to letting Cousins slip to us?

Our 2nd round pick, a player, ect?

Just curious, as it's a fairly good chance that something like the above plays out.

The good news is that if Cousins falls to 5 I think we draft him and he will be both the BPA and the player that most fits our needs and nobody has to question the pick.

It's not all that bad, I don't think JOHN WALL was going to save the KINGS. This teams needs either A) Shooter or B) Big Man, so it'll work out.
