Kings Frontcourt Rebounding

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
This ain't pretty:

1) we are a bad rebounding team (-4.4 a game)
2) this is depsite the presence of Bonzi at OG, who is turning in a remarkable performance for an OG on the glass
3) Here's how that happens:

Through 8 Games
Starters
Brad 6.4rebs in 34.5min = 8.9/48 (Ranked 64th of 87 Cs)
Reef 8.3rebs in 34.6min = 11.4/48 (Ranked 58th of 118 PFs)
Peja 4.4rebs in 38.1min = 5.5/48 (Ranked 68th of 82 SFs)
Reserves
Skinner 6.7/48 (Ranked 83rd of 87 Cs).
Kenny 13.4/48 (Ranked 28th of 118 PFs)
Garcia 5.6/48 (Ranked 64th of 82 SFs)
Corliss 4.8/48 (Ranked 114th of 118 PFs or 74th of 82 SFs).

So of our ENTIRE frontcourt, starters and reserves, the only player who is even above average is Kenny Thomas, who is struggling in other areas. The starters aren't rebounding. Peja is on a pace very similar to last year. Brad is far FAR below his career 13.0/48 average, and their backups aren't doing any better and thus aren't offering any alternatives.

All of the ugliness above is offset by one solitary birght spot for the Kings on the glass:

Bonzi 7.8 in 32.4 = 11.5/48 (Ranked 4th of 111 OGs)

But can he keep it up? He's way over his career 8.5/48.

I'm guessing that Bonzi can keep it up, precisely because our frontline is so weak. He's getting the rebounds they can't, or won't.

I thought we made moves to adress this ? -4.4 is over twice as bad as last year. Our rebounding has def gotten worse, so has our overall defense. Brads lack of rebs is killing us, he is one of the main culprits IMO... he has to do more.

Oh boy, here come those evil per 48's!

True the rebounding has been bad. Brad needs to start hitting the boards the most out of everybody. He is better than he is showing.

Thank god we have Bonzi!

They're only evil if you have something to hide...which unfortunately we do thus far. ;)

Sorry, but I consider a revolt against per 48s to be the basketball equivalent of the luddite movement or an ostrich sticking its head in the sand (which I pray for ostriches is just a myth).

The Kings right now have the softest frontline in basketball....hands down.

Brad seems to have regressed for some reason. Not sure if it's lingering injury issues or what.

The problem with rebounding is because we have two non-athletic front court starters---Brad and Peja. If one of these two are a better than average rebounder, then the Kings would be okay in term of rebounds.

Brad's gotta get back to his rebounding of the last 2 seasons. Seriously.

I expect it to pick up in the next few games.

Just for you:

Contrary to popular belief, ostriches do not bury their heads in the sand. If a predator threatens their nest, ostriches will lay their head against the sand to try to blend in with it.

[sarcasm]Actually, our rebounding is not that bad. It is obvious that Shareef is Wilt chamberlain in disguise and Brad Miller is the next Bill Walton...[/sarcasm]

you say Luddite like it's a BAD thing!

First - Bonzi rebounding is kind of a bad thing. It means, for the most part, he's out of position. On offense, he crowds the lane - just standing there waiting for a board. That's nice and all, but if someone is going to drive, there is an extra defender and an extra body. It ruins offense. On defense, he's out of position on rotation - A LOT.

I'm glad he's rebounding - but it is costing the team when this is an overwhelming priority.

Second, it's hard to get boards when you allow the opposition to score 50% of their attempts. Or when players play half games this early in the season due to blowouts in either direction (for Reef it happened twice and both times he had 3 rebounds). This is where stats can be misleading.

It's no excuse, but I promise if we made a concerted effort on d ... the rebounding number would, without question, rise.

Not totally true. The reason Bonzi is rebounding so well is he is actually GOING AFTER THE BALL. Brad and Peja seem to treat the ball like it's got the bird flu and they only touch it if they are forced to.

Being an athlete does help but so does proper positioning, boxing out and going after the ball. Brad just seems to be to weak to keep position and box people out. We heard him say after last year that he was going to hit the weights because he was tired of being pushed around. Seems like the only weights he hit were of the 12 ounce variety  .

You joklingly praise a Luddite while on a computer.

I'm confused.
Computer? what computer? ;)

PS. Much like the misconception about Ostriches sticking their head in the sand Luddites did NOT reject all technology, rather they questiond the the usefullness of technoglies individualy and rejected the technologies that would result in the loss of jobs or a reduction in quality of life. A worthwhile discussion for another forum.

That's true.

But, Bonzi is also, on the offensive end, creating havok for people wanting to drive the lane or for passing lanes.

For instance, when Reef gets the ball on the low block, Bonzi immediately runs to the lane for a rebound. Well, that clutters the lane and prevents Reef from getting to the rim.

Granted, Bonzi can get the board, but our play is stifled.

The defensive issues aren't nearly as problematic ... although he isn't really doing anything to defend him man (but who is?).

I won't argue about Brad Miller. He's really looking lost when it comes to doing anything defensively or blocking out his opponent. It's just ugly.

Although I love that Bonzi is getting the Rebounds for us, is it costing us fast break points? When he is up at the basket trying to get an offensive rebound if the other team gets the rebound does it make it harder for us to get back and protect the basket? Just thought i would mention it since it seems other teams have been getting a lot of fast break points even after we make 2 pts other teams are firing the ball back to the other side for an easy bucket. Are our stats for fast break points getting worse?

Have you guys ever notice that Bonzi's career rebound number is only 4.4 per game. If Brad and Peja are better at grabbing rebound, Bonzi wouldn't feel the need to crowd the low post in order to grab some. Brad being 7ft and Peja being 6'10" are just simply not aggressive enough to go after rebounds.
