[KINGS] Comments that don't warrant their own thread (Redux)

If Monte gets fired it's probably because he didn't re-work fast enough. I don't know what Vivek's head is at. We just fired the head coach and traded the star player, I will be honest it's hard not to put some of that on the GM's head. Maybe the org is fine blaming Fox for everything (and maybe that is actually where the blame lays). But it's really hard to figure out what next, I just wonder what the goal is for 25-26. Nothing has ever led me to think Vivek will reset.
The goal next year, and the years after that (at least till 2031, when Spurs have swap rights with us), should be to win, and win as much as possible.

We are a decent team, certainly not a BAD one. Giving our long losing history, our modest recent "success", there is no need to go in a full "rebuild" mode. I mean rebuild from what? We have had one playoff appearance since 2006, and haven't won a round in the playoffs since 2004. We have one All-NBA center and several decent pieces. We can't compete with the likes of the Wizards, and Jazz, and Hornets in sucking. And if we aren't doing that, we should try to win.

It seems like a lot of folks are pretty negative about the team right now because of a back-to-back OT loss on the road right before the AS break.

Please, get a grip. Just chill for a minute and let them work.

DC has a winning record at 15-9 despite controversially (to some) taking over the team mid-season (with a losing record at the time) and fighting through a tumultuous trade deadline with Fox (and the associated uncertainty surrounding the team).

Let's give the coach some time to actually, you know, have some practices with the reconstructed team roster and try to get everyone up to speed.

Yes, the team construction needs some tweaking, but that's not really possible now after the trade deadline. We've traded out our second most important player on the team (Sabonis has always been #1 in making this group "go"), brought in an all-star scorer in return, shored up our backup center and forward and point guard rotations a bit, and gotten off of Red Velvet's salary (and his playing time that frustrated us all - unfortunately, because I like him). We also now have more future picks to use to bring in talent as early as this summer.

We need time to gel. Players don't know the offensive plays, haven't played significant time together, don't know where everyone likes the ball yet, still don't know how to take full advantage of the screens by our bearded bangers at the 5, and I think some are still probably trying to figure out where they are going to live short term now that they got traded to the Kings.

I’m sure I’m just missing the answer but are picks protected post lottery? For example if the Kings finish at 13 does that automatically convey to Atlanta? Or do we still hold rights if it jumps into the top 4?

The conveyance on the pick is based on the final post-lottery position of the pick, not the pre-lottery position.

31 is so far away that Wemby will probably have been traded to the Lakers by then.

In a world where Luka is willingly traded, Wemby being off the Spurs in 31 doesn't seem that far-fetched if they screw up the team build around him and they haven't won a title by then. You don't think the Lakers are already angling how to pair Luka and Wemby?

That's why if I'm the Spurs, I look to build the winner now around him. You have no idea how long your clock actually is where you get to keep him.

Also the fact we also have the TWolves unprotected pick in 2031 makes the swap with the Spurs relatively painless that season. They’re also in “star player might be off the team by then” territory.

Or retired from injury.

Yao Ming had 3 good years, rookie to year 3 starting at 22 years old. At 25 the injuries started and he was done at 29.
Ralph Sampson started at 23 had 3 good seasons till injuries started. Was basically done at 28 years old.
Greg Odin - no explanation needed.
Embiid - Never played over 68 games in a season, at 29 played 39 games last year.

And since Monte didn't blast his own picks in any more win now with middling moves the Kings have all their own picks that matter. That's how you build anyway. You always want to control your own destiny.

Van Gundy ran him into the ground.
Yao literally said he could only play 30 and was basically told no.

This is one thing I do respect about Monte. Over the past two years I’m sure he’s seen the writing on the wall with Fox. And then at this deadline clearly he was in a save his job scenario. Through it all, the worst we can say is he’s sacrificed some second round picks and the pick swap. He could have really screwed over the franchise with a terrible swing the fences trade by blowing our next half decade of FRPs.

The spurs pick swap is done. Can’t manage the next 6 years worrying about it. At this point the only impact is how embarrassing it will look in 2031 (or maybe it won’t even convey). Need to make the best decisions going forward regardless. Whether that’s tank, building onto the current core, or a soft reset.

Things I learned from the presser:

1) Jake does not care about scoring and is happy being the gritty “all the little things” type of player.

2) Jake does not like the nickname Slaw Dog.

3) Sabonis said that Fultz knows the plays better than some of the guys on the team that have been around for years. Ouch.

4) this one is pure speculation, but I gather Sabonis might have a bit of a prickly personality. Not a jerk or bad teammate or anything but just the type that gets irritated by others. Just my uninformed opinion.

5) Doug’s Stone Cold Steve Austin goatee has been mowed over.
