the Kings have 4 of the top 30 players in the league over the last week. Unfortunately Domas is only #2 to Tyrese so the trade was a failure and Monte should be run out of town.
Middle managers deserve no less in the NBA for such mistakes. Might need to tar and feather him as well just to make sure the message gets across.

It's pretty wild how closely Hali and Sabonis have been on the advanced stats rankings since this trade. I feel like every time I look at PER or WAR or WS/48 they're always right next to each other in the league wide rankings. That might be the most evenly balanced trade in the history of the league. So naturally this can only end one way...

Your 2024 NBA Finals matchup: Kings v. Pacers!

Nope... see, Hali is above Domas. Clearly a one-sided trade

Didn't the Hali trade also bring in the pick that became Colby Jones?

And it bought in Justin Holiday, who helped facilitate the Huerter trade?

I mean, I can't say I didn't like Hali on the Kings. But to say the Pacers 'won' the trade, that we are not substantially better off vs where we were, etc etc.

Finally, a non-cringey take from BSPN.
This was a great educated discussion about the Kings for talking heads who have to cover 29 other teams. I like how they genuinely discussed the Kings as a a playoff team and not a shrugged off feel-good story.

I'm back and forth about making roster moves, but I do think it's important to keep the chemistry together. We saw what happened that one year where we traded Iman Shumpert away. I think we've got a good thing going and we should probably ride what we have unless there's a total collapse, or it's clear that things are no longer working.

It's clear that the rest of the media is starting to put some expectations on the Kings to be a good team this year.

Guys like Lowe actually do their homework. I’ve been watching the all nba podcast lately with Tim Legler and both he and the host Adam have extensive knowledge of all the teams in the league. A lot of those talking head shows are for casuals and the pods are for the nerds and diehards.

The chemistry will only get better once Trey Lyles returns to the court. He is one tough dude.

Coach Brown castigated the entire team for not "showing fight." Specifically, “I didn’t think we had any fight (Monday) from anybody.” That was not fair to Kessler Edwards and Colby Jones, at least. They were out there working hard and working fast.

I love watching Edwards on defense. I hope to see more of him tonight on Brandon Ingram.

After the two games against New Orleans, the Kings are now 22nd in FG% and 25th in 3-point %. Five rotation guys are shooting below 40% from the field: Duarte, Murray, Monk, Ellis, and Mitchell. Three of the five starters have a negative +- number per game: Barnes, Sabonis, and Huerter. The guy with the highest number, Alex Len at +3.3 in six games, is out until January, although he has only played 41 minutes total. Len has more or less been forgotten by the coaches, just like last season. As for defense, the Kings are once again at 23rd in opponents' FG% at 48.7%. Number one? The Minnesota Timberwolves at 43.0%.

The injuries, first to Lyles and Fox, then to six other players, are playing havoc with the rotations and cohesiveness of both starters and mixed starters + bench. (Coach Brown has retained the policy of keeping either Sabonis or Fox on the court nearly the entire game.)

The Sacramento Kings have their work cut out for them the next few weeks.

In case anyone wants to know. Here is how the seeding plays out.

Top seed
Lakers +74 4-0

if we beat the Warriors by 45 or more we get the top seed

if we win by less than 45 and more than 4 we play the Pels @SAC if the Mavs beat the Rockets. If we win by less than 4 we go back to New Orleans.

if the Rockets beat the Mavs and win by 13 more than we beat the Warriors we get to go back to Houston. If the Rockets and we win by less than 13 then the Rockets come to Sac.

if we lose and the T-Wolves win then we go back to New Orleans if the Mavs win or back to Houston if the combined Rockets win margin and our loss Margin is greater than 13.

Day 400 of me wondering how in the hell Mike Brown couldn’t get an NBA head coaching job for damn near a decade.
A lot of it was the perception that he just coasted along on LeBron's coattails in his first coaching gig in Cleveland. Then he had to take over from Phil Jackson in LA. Only a brave man would do that. He was fired five games into his second season. Reminds me of Yogi Berra getting the sack after only 16 games with the Yankees. That team was 6-10. Yogi never managed again.

Any coach is about as good as his best players. It's also pretty clear that Brown has grown since his time as a coach. He's probably got his philosophy down to a science at this point.

All Kings comments warrant their own thread. We just haven't evolved the mental capacity to handle the weight of the Sacramento Kings.

Can we be thankful for the character of the players? There are players in the league I wouldn't even want to win with. Not only do we not have guys like that, but I can't recall any of the Kings so much as rubbing me the wrong way. Winning is just more fun this way.

As an example, I like Coach Frank Vogel. Watching Devin and Kevin operate is fun. But Phoenix also has Grayson Allen, a real SOB. He has not changed his stripes since he was in college. So it's tough to root for the Suns at all.

The early December schedule for the Kings looks brutal. Not until after Christmas does it ease up, and then they will play three teams currently with losing records, all on the road. The saving grace is that all but one of the ten games before Christmas will be at home.

There are no nights off in the NBA, even the current worst 2-4 teams (maybe sans Wizards) can pretty much compete with everyone because they have at least two to three starting caliber NBA players in their rotations.

we are built to be a shooting team. The three pointer will always be a bigger part of our offense than a lot of other teams. The numbers below are the three point shooting percentages of our opponents (on the left) and us (on the right) in our 7 losses:

50 31
23 34
42 24
48. 35
36. 26
35. 31
45. 30

our highest percentage from 3 in a loss was 35 and Houston hit 48 that night. Only one loss was on a night we shot better from 3 than our opponent.

Teams that shoot better from 3 probably win a high percentage of games across the NBA but since we rely on it more heavily we better find away to hit shots or win in other ways

When the shots aren't falling, you'd like to see them rely on their defense to force turnovers and get easy buckets in transition. This is the ultimate goal, but our defense falters any time of our offense does( supported by those numbers).

I don't think you necessarily want to change the way you play, but you just have to make it easier on yourself. If we had a player outside of Fox who can get things going without needing the 3pt shot, that would be really helpful for this team.

We know Fox is going to get his points and Domas has been pretty reliable too until the last couple games. With most of our additional scoring coming from spot up shooters though, we're in big trouble if a few of them go cold at once. Which is why we need to get the defense figured out -- to lower the floor for how much we need to score to come out ahead.
