[KINGS] Comments that don't warrant their own thread (Redux)

As the offseason drags along, we now have some dates to look forward to as the Sacramento Kings regular schedule begins to leak. Per Cunningham, the Kings will open up in Phoenix against the Suns on October 22. Like Sacramento, Phoenix endured a tumultuous 2024-25 season that saw a very talented, expensive team miss the playoffs entirely. The Suns have undergone a near complete makeover this summer, trading Kevin Durant and waiving Bradley Beal.

Well, it's obvious to me that your biased and your letting your love for Lavine affect your judgement. OK, just kidding! I personally have mixed feelings about him. I can't argue with his production stat wise, but my question would be, are you going to be there when we need you, because last season, he wasn't. Having said that, last season was a mess, and I'm not sure Michael Jordan could have come into this mess late in the season and looked good.

Regardless of whether you, or I like him or not is immaterial. He's going to be here for a while because no one is going to touch that contract, at least not right now. Screaming and yelling about it isn't going to change that. My hope is that Christi is able to get him to be more aggressive. It appeared to me that he was trying to hard to fit in last season. He needs to go out and play his game. As far as his rebounding goes, there are only a handful of guards in the NBA that average 7 boards a game.

All I would ask of him is to play hard, and play to his strengths. Don't try to turn yourself into a PG. Make the right pass when it's there, but other than that, just play your game and let Christi and Perry decide whether it fits what their trying to do.

Took me a while to get back to this post, but..... Christie isn't going to do squat. He's a greenhorn go-along-to-get-along coach and we saw proof of it last year. Did Christie's coaching motivate Lavine to become tougher last season on defense? No. Did he motivate Lavine to be better at rebounding? No. Do these skills require some technical summer practice to get better at? Hell, no. Lavine's woeful rebounding was there for all the world to see, including Christie, and he did nothing to change it last season. The Kings, of course, rewarded Christie for his motivational skills. So stop with hope this and hope that about Christie's influence on Lavine's rebounding. Lavine came to a new team and had all the reasons in the world to show his toughness and rebounding skills.

As for the realism of 7 rebounds a game, tell me this: What 6'5" guard in the NBA has more athleticism than Lavine? Answer: None. There may be some of comparable athleticism, but none that one can observe to be obviously more athletic. He should be in the top decile of 6'5" guards in the league in rebounding. So why does he rebound so poorly? The answer is obvious: He's not interested. It's not his job, apparently. And please, don't give the "I hope Christie...." argument. I hope the Kings can get in the playoffs next year. I hope they are the World Champions next year. I hope that we drafted a superstar this year. I hope, I hope, I hope. By the way, I *hope* that you're wrong about Lavine's contract is untradeable.

P.S. I think the "he just needs time and coaching" for improving his offense during critical times of the game argument doesn't play. The guy couldn't even play off of Sabonis screens to get easy shots last year. It shouldn't take a year for veteran NBA guard to know how to do that. It's not like he's 19 years old. It speaks of his low BBIQ and doesn't auger well for him playing synergistically with Sabonis next year.

I was frustrated with LaVine last season and really didn't have many expectations. And I was right, he doesn't or won't adjust his game; he needs adjustments around him. Hell no, we are not that team that can be flexible. Regardless of his production, he must be traded with every opportunity that arises this season, sooner rather than later.
