[KINGS] Comments that don't warrant their own thread (Redux)

The Maloofs had the charisma and fan connection - but didn't have the money. Vivek has the money - but not the fan connection. Can't have it all I guess. At least he's willing to spend and doesn't want to move the team. That's all you can really ask.
There was some self serving crap in that article. He must have mentioned 4 times how he hadn't been involved until it came to Brown. GTFO here with that revisionist history. I don't like being treated like I'm dumb.

He needs a fresh PR person bad. He should be glad to be off the worst owner in sports top 5 list and just bask in having some anonymity outside Sacramento for a year or two but I guess that is too much to ask when you have a billion dollar ego.

It's amazing to me how often very successful people make the mistake of thinking people can't see through their obvious attempts to warp reality in their favor. If I ever become a billionaire - can someone please tell me if I'm doing this? Like telling your buddy he's got food in his teeth.

You'd think they'd hire at least one person in their circle to give them the straight up no bs truth about how the public perceives their actions and persona - nobody else wants to pee off the big guy.

To be fair, Vivek being hands off and letting Vlade do his thing is what led to Vlade passing on Luka because he didn’t like his dad, letting his assistant GM and head coach have a full on feud throughout the season, Vlade firing said coach and replacing him with his old pot dealer from LA, and letting Vlade keep said coach even when an unfortunate sexual harassment allegation gave everyone involved the perfect out.

you can say that Vivek’s fingerprints are all over the last decade but for the most part they’re all over them because Vivek put his absolute trust in the absolute worst people (including that one front office dude who stole millions from the team) and was a little too hands off with what they wanted to do.

I'd do my best to hire Sir Charles Barkley as an adviser. You KNOW that dude will tell you the truth. He lost his friendship with MJ, allegedly, because he was critical of his ownership. AND, he was spot on about it.

What's up with this clown Stephen A. Smith? He actually believes the Pelicans were a Conference Finals team with Zion playing.

I know he's shown flashes of being a really good player, but c'mon dude. There's really nothing to base that opinion upon.

Are they better or more talented than PHX or GSW? I don't think so. I don't see any reason to believe they are better than our KINGS.

Western Conference Finals, my @$$.

Warriors fans are insufferable at this point and are acting like a fan base that has 4 championships. They have zero respect for the Kings. If they do advance I will actively be rooting against them for sure
It's a better rivalry if the fans are genuinely unlikeable - and the players too. The health department should shut down Steph Curry and his germ infested pacifier mouthpiece. Draymond Green belongs in jail - I genuinely wouldn't let him near my kids if spotted in public.

For a while there the Kings going to play against the Warriors was like a scrimmage game from players on the same team. Just no animosity at all. People wondered if there could even be a rivalry with how little friction there was.

Well - now we have it.

I really dislike them.

So I just saw a youtube clip of Eddie House predicting a "gentlemans sweep" of the KINGS by the Warriors.

He goes on about defense being the KINGS Achilles heel all season and how they don't defend.

Funny how he chooses to ignore the Warriors inability to defend this season and doesn't mention their Achilles heel of not winning on the road. I guess these things only work in one direction?!

Honestly, it's "analysts" like House that annoy me most. While his prediction could end up happening, it's clear he hasn't done much research or deep dived into anything. He just gets a pass as a "credible" voice because he once played the game years ago. Apparently that's a good enough qualification.

He clearly has zero clue that the KINGS defense is top 10 on the road. And that the KINGS Q4 defensive numbers, especially in the waning minutes, isn't all that bad. Nor has been their transition defense.

It's just easy to believe in and regurgitate what all the other naysayers that don't deeply follow the games have been saying all season. And follow their lead in ignoring the warts of the opponent.

Lots of folks asking to clean it up but I kinda like the weathered look, a real piece of history and sorta symbolic of this very weathered franchise and fanbase

Lots of fans here at KF have been lobbying for that statue to be moved over since G1C first opened. Don't know what the problem has been the past 7 years.....

Where is it located? I'm not recognizing the background.

Honestly, I don't get this point of view at all. Maybe because I don't live in Sacramento. Outside of fandom, we have zero rights and stakes at it. The man bought the team, he can do whatever he wants within the rules of the league. I thought that's how American corporation works.

Just because Nike locates in Oregon, that doesn't mean the town of Beaverton, OR can tell Nike's CEO what he should and shouldn't do.

I just can't wrap my head around seeing him from buying the team and help saving it from leaving Sacramento, to us developing the "don't touch my team, you amateur!" sentiment. Plus there is so much drama leaked out in the earlier stage of Vivek running the team where all these different people sabotage the franchise by airing their grievances to the public with zero repercussions. Are we just cherry-picking the leaks that fit our narrative to blame him? How do we know for sure he did what the media said he did anyway?

As a foreign immigrant, I'm open to being wrong about any of these.

Where the ice rink goes in the winter.

My friend made the Number 6. It's rusted, it's not supposed to be that color.

I'm not complaining about what he's doing, I'm talking about him making bad press for himself. Everyone knows he was meddling with team affairs before and not deferring to the basketball people. He clearly seems to have stepped back and yet he wants the public to know he's "more involved than ever"? No.

again - he's doing something right. Just stop trying to make it sound like when the team sucked you weren't hands on and now that it's good you are. Nobody believes that. It makes him come off as a liar.

Which is why I said he needs a better PR person. Someone who can tell him "hey buddy, you know this doesn't read well? Say you learned from mistakes and are happy with the team, not that you are King Midas. The people will love you".

Not that you don’t have some valid points, but the example above is an extremely poor one.

The business isn’t called the “Beaverton Nike’s” is it? Nor is it under the umbrella of much larger entity and a mere franchise among many others.

In this case, the team is located and referred to as “Sacramento”. They have a super long lease agreement with the city. They don’t own the building they perform in.

There a far too many differences to list.

Lastly, from day 1 of his ownership (remember, Vivek is not even a 50.01% majority owner), he clearly stated “This is YOUR team and it’s here to stay!”

Vivek does answer to the collective ownership, the NBA, and to some extent the city of SAC and it’s fans.

Looks like a Kings Championship could cost the casinos millions of dollars. Come on Kings, lets shock the world!!!

If I made a little more money in my day/9-5 job, I would have thrown some money down on the Kings to win it all. It would probably be an annual tradition...$50 or $100 preseason for my teams to win it all - just for fun.

I am hopeful to be able to begin this tradition at some point in the near future. For now, though, I'd much rather save that extra $200-$400.

These are not so small factors that some might say “sway” officiating calls, aside from name recognition.
It would be interesting to know the actual liability numbers (though of course the casinos wouldn't let that out). Clearly Caesars' payouts for the Kings would reach at least $10M based on the two large bets we know about (obviously there are a bunch of small ones) but it's the net liability that the book will be worried about. But if the casinos were going to have to pay out an extra say $10M in the event of a Kings win, why wouldn't they try to sneakily arrange a little quid pro quo with the refs? It's only illegal if you get caught.
