Kings coaching prospects (Merged)

Command respect from Ron or Bonzi? Yeah...

Larry Brown would be run out of town on a rail before the ink dried on his contract.
Not necessarily, Larry Brown thinks defense first. Both Bonzi & Artest are perfect Larry Brown type players. I just don't see them causing a riff with a coach who preaches defense and has something to show for it. They are both mature players now, and they all want to win. IF the players can keep their egos aside, Larry can make the Kings into a great defensive team and a true contender. It's a tall order, no doubt.... but imo the best choice out there, if available.

What's wrong with Don Nelson?

Ok, he's not known to be defensive-minded, but until we got Artest, neither were we or Adelman. I think Artest's defense is infectious anyway. He will make the other players be better one-on-one and help defenders. So Nellie won't have to worry too much about being "defensive-minded". He has a good track record as a winning coach and teacher, so I don't think Martin and Cisco's development will be curtailed. I've seen many negative reactions to the possibility of Nellie coming to Sac. Why?

Don't get me wrong. I think not keeping Adelman was a BIG mistake. I think he deserves a chance with the new lineup and I was excited to see what he was going to do with it. It also just doesn't seem fair to him. He did a GREAT job this year considering the circumstances and he didn't deserve to go out like that. Artest was all fired up to keep playing for Adelman. Why would you want to screw with that chemistry? I'm also upset about the housecleaning of the coaching staff esp. getting rid of Coachie. It's all definitely a Maloof power-trip move and they better make sure things get set right.

But, looking at the list of replacements, to me Nellie seems the best fit and tops the list. Porter is a sentimental fav, but he's not that proven yet and it's not a good situation for a young coach or a coach with a less than stellar track record.

I'm not sure if anyone COULD answer this. Could anyone have predicted that Avery Johnson would win COY? Or that Phil Jackson would have become the coach he is when he first took over in Chicago? Everyone keeps comparing him to existing "head coaches" in the league and yes its true that most of them lack Rick's resume. But that's irrelevant as the change was made to see what they can do with this team, not the other teams they've had. Its like saying that Rick shouldn't have been given the chance with the kings because of how poor his record was with the Warriors.
Anyone listen to Mike Lamb whine yesterday??? My god I had to turn off the radio. Anytime someone would suggest another coach he would break in with "Is he better than Adelman".

Can I remind some people of something......Prior to us hiring Adelman he was about to become the coach of Portland State after a dismal run in Golden State...not really a "prime candidate" at the time. He was lucky enough to coach some great players who brought him success and now the Kings have decided to move on.

How do we know there is not another coach that is going to come in and do the same for the Kings and actually bring them over the top?? Adelman had his chances and you can read between the lines what the Maloofs were saying in the Bee today....this team had chances but it was the lack of preparation and accountability of his players that the Maloofs did not like and this falls on the coach.

Terry Porter or don't be suprise if the maloof make a push for byron scott from the hornet for this year draft pick. This rumor is from Grant he was on wfan sport radio in new york last night

If you believe the organization/Maloofs are going to a "DEFENSE" first philosophy than Nelson is out.

I hope they go with a young guy.

2 words........ Bill Lambieer!! ((I don't know, I'm just throwing names out))
I didn't think of that name but hell ya. I dont' see him leaving the Detriot area but WOW that would be a coach I would be very happy with.

On Larry I just said it in another thread. I personally like him but he is not the right coach for Sac and not only that he would quit in a few years anyway.

Another name I heard this morning was George Karl. Reportably he is upset about the firing of the GM

I like him ALOT and he has always been and had great comments about the Kings. You can tell in interviews he likes the Kings and after some thought my short list.

WAXER HIRE LIST:
1. George Karl
2. Lambier
3. PJ
4. SVG

That is a list of high profile names. Coaches that have put together winning teams and coaches that are defensive minded. Reports are the Maloofs told Petrie they wanta defensive minded coach.

Pick any of those 4 and I am buying my championship ticket in a few years!

It's a big loss that RA is out, but now we have to move on...unless the Maloofs realize the sexy choices are nil and the have to grovel to Rick. Hey, it's happened before (Think about the A's).

Barring this, how tough would it be to get Byron Scott? Yes, NO/OK has a solid young core, but the Kings are close to making a run at the title now with a few personnel tweaks. Mario Elle is intriguing...he's a lot like Byron and Avery.

Trust in Petrie.

Stan Van Gundy

SVG is a pat riley protege... he stresses defense and had done a great job with the heat until riley stabbed him in the back... he is a california native and would be a very good choice to replace adelman... if not him then maybe, PJ carlesimo

if the maloofs are serious about winning with defense, don nelson would be out... the best canidates would be

1) SVG
2) PJ Carlesimo (because of Poppivich training)
3) Eric Musselman (probably not big enough name for maloofs)

What are everyone's feelings on bringing in Mike Dunleavy if Clippers don't offer him an extension? (he has an option after this year)

I honestly think Scottie Pippen would be a great coach. He seems to communicate well and sure as hell knows the game.
From when I was watching our Game 6 Kings Vs Spurs on TNT.. I don't think Scottie likes our team very much. He was being negative about it at halftime. He kept saying we were done, and we have no chance of coming back in the game. I mean come on. I don't like his kind of attitude.

Wasn't that true though?
