Kings coaching prospects (Merged)

I think this holds some weight, and this team is mysteriously built very similar to that of the Monarchs. Post players, defensive players, etc.
I like this scrappy tough team we had with Artest and Wells. Sure Phoenix can run and gun and it is fun to watch and all, but we want to see some good old defending the hoop. A turnover in the form of a steal is very fun as is the fast break and dunk that follows. I sure get mad when the player from the other teams commits a cheap foul to stop the fast break because the fans miss out on the dunk...even the opposing fans want to see the dunk most of the time. The Princeton system looks to be long gone, and as Peja was a fish out of water this year, so does Brad look to be.

I don't think so. I think its time for this team to move in brand new direction. Vlade is a neat idea but I don't even know if that is in the realm of possibility.

He did it to the Wizards as GM, with Kwame Brown (meow) as their "savior" on the floor and Collins as coach I think?

As head coach himself, with Artest as the "savior" on the floor... maybe a different story.

If the Maloofs want to make a spash, that would be one!

^^Well he certainly has the name recognition...but I imagine somebody with his type of dominating personality would not be able to handle the likes of Artest or even Bonzi. Somebody like Phil JAckson would be ideal - although impossible - as he preaches defense but never really seems to be overimposing on his players (and has a history of controlling difficult personalities).

proposterous!
Eric musselman wouldnt last a postseason game, bonz and ron would tear him a newone..
I think Petrie and Co. will do a good job finding someone to fit our "unique" situation as far as players go :p I think it is very important to find a player's coach so everyone reminds happy..

I'm inclined to see some new blood, whether it be Musselman who has had some past success with getting lesser teams to overachieve or a vet player who is breaking into coaching, Elie or someone similar. I don't see any of these old school hard nosed guys meshing well with our team.

I say Elie because he's been rumored in coaching jobs over the last year, and because Montgomery could well be out in GS, and is an assistant of his. From what I remember, Elie was a tough player.

Coach K and Rudy T seemed less scary possibilities given what the Maloofs were looking for.

Nellie, George Karl, Larry Brown (after he gets fired) were the scarier options. Wilkens is just way past his prime. Silas was always mediocre.

Carlesimo, Collins and fellow screamers would be an utter disaster waiting to happen. Carlisle is a great coach who might become available, but cannot work with Ron. Jeff Van Gundy is similar to Carlisle in many ways, and Ron would likely revolt.

Terry Porter et al. would be nice, solid, but lacking the splash I think the Maloofs want to make.

I think Elie might make a good coach in the league, but again, would have to fight not being a sexy choice.

How about we don't go with some crusty old vet who's been around the block way too many times. If it's Nellie/Karl/LB I'd rather grab a young assistant who has a promising future. Avery Johnson has shown the fire a young coach can put in a club. A big name is not what this team needs, a steady head with a good brain inside is. Which rules out PJ, Collins, Carlisle, Van Gundy and Terry Porter. I'd rather get a young guy with some promise than an old mediocre one.

I like it in this order:
Rudy T
Don Nelson
Elston Turner
Terry Porter
That white-haired assistant from Dallas (duh cant remember his name, the one who coached the lakers and the chinese team)

lenny wilkens is practically brain dead, Id rather have coachey take over
Rudy 3?? Talk about no defense. And I don't think you would want "Dull" Harris either..speaking from experience.

Don't know why, but I like Elie/Porter (though doesn't he have that Portland buying deal going?) and maybe SVG to become coach.

Don Nelson isn't a logical or fitting choice, period.

Not sure if anyone has noted this, but Del Harris was the coach of the Rockets when the Maloofs owned that team, and Rudy Tomjanovich was one of the players.

I only like Greg Popovich as the replace for Adelman... but I don't think he'll ever be a Kings coach! At least not anytime near the future. :D

The list of (known to me) coaches, in an order of who I want to be hired.

Lenny Wilkens
Terry Porter
Elston Turner
Paul Silas
P.J. Carliesimo (?)
Del Harris
Adrian Dantley
Mario Elie
Piksi's Grandmother
Don Nelson (should be farther down, but I'm out of candidates)

Any others?

This thread is already going in the "trade" forum.

p.s. Also known as the "personnel moves" forum.
