Kings - Bobcats
Kings deal:
Beno Udrih 6.5 Million(2 years rem.)
Jason Thompson 2.2 million (2 years rem.)
Bobcats deal:
DJ Augustin 2.6 million (2 years rem.)
Boris Diaw 9 million (1 year rem.)
Why for the Bobcats – They need size, quality size and desperately. They’ve been big fans of THompson for some time, particularly LB. Beno brings some stability to them at the PG position. This also opens up minutes for Tyrus Thomas. I think JT plays mostly Center for the Bobcats and overall I think the Bobcats win this trade in the short term.
Why for the Kings – Augustin is young and gives us some potential in the backcourt at PG. Sure Beno is a fine fit, but at this point, I think we’re seeing what Beno starting does for our team in terms of ceiling, it’s just not that high. Augustin can really shoot it and adds an additional ball-handler to our roster. We do lack a speedster in the backcourt and I think that’s a big part of DJ’s game. Diaw, however, is the magic bullet for us. Instead of trying THompson at SF, I think Diaw can adequately cover it. He’s the best defensder of the bunch, has great court vision and is a solid rebounder for the 3. Adding Diaw also sheds Beno’s deal and gives us more future cap space to work with. I see our roster have better passers, shooters and overall more balanced defensively(which is what we’re lacking…the sum of the parts are greater than the whole right now, especially defensively). I think Diaw is the type of savvy vet this team could use at the 3 to act as the gelling force we need, particularly on defense. DJ could start at the 1 or we could bring him off the bench and start Cisco. DJ could also help us in terms of staying front of the quicker PG's on defense, even though I know he's not known for his defense. I kinda like Cisco starting better actually.
