Oh please. NOTHING to do with who's coaching him? That's just delusional.
Ron may want to be the man but if you have to address the coaching issue at some point. Musselman doesn't know how to deal with the egos of some of the players. It's really obvious. Adelman did have the ability to keep players happier than Musselman has ever dreamed of. For whatever reason, Artest has pretty much just decided to listen to what Musselman wants and then ignore it. I don't even think it's intentional. I think a part of him (artest) just firmly believes he has a better grasp on what should go on in a crunch situation than Musselman...
Again, this isn't a dig on Ron. He wants to lead the team to victory. He wants to win. He encourages the young guys. He just doesn't like to follow leaders who aren't really competent to lead. And I don't blame him a bit...
Adelman could "get along" very well with his star players. I'll grant you that. If you continually defer to your star players, sure, you're going to get along. Personally, I don't want my coach to have "getting along" as his number 1 priority, but that's just me.
But back to Artest. The problem is, Adelman would be deferring to Artest this year, whereas last year Artest was deffering to him and the Kings organization.
Artest has shown through his own comments that he lives in his own world. He just said that the Kings will win 80% of their remaining games. No, he didn't just say it, he
believes it. He has the same belief about his own abilities. Artest believes he has no limitations. Don't tell
ME how to play my game, he says to the coach. How dare the coach tell
ME how to play. I can do anything! Is that somebody that can be reasoned with? Heck, no. I don't care who is the coach with Artest - Riley, Jackson, you name it - they are going bang their head up against his wall sooner or later. Artest will not accept his own limitations. We can speculate on why that is all we want, but that's the reality. And not only does he think he can do everything, he thinks he
deserves it. That's why he's uncontrollable.
You say "for whatever reason" Artest has refused to listen to the coach. Please. You're talking about Artest like you don't know his history. There are reasons aplenty that will indicate to you that Artest does
whatever he wants, whenever he wants, and to whomever he wants. Muss is not the exception here. Look at Indiana. I can see your Indiana analogue saying that it was Carlyle that was the problem: "If they only had a coach with stature who knew how to talk to his star players." Artest had chance after chance. It wasn't his coach who drove him to destruction and choas in Indiana. It certainly was not the players who supported him. It was ONLY Artest. And for you to imply that Artest might know better is beyond any pale. Yeah, right. I'm sure GM's will be bringing in Artest to consult on their coaching vacancies.
