Kings assign Hassan Whiteside to the Reno Bighorns of the NBA Development League

Granted i have only watched Hassan in summer league and one D-league game but the only thing i would say is he often looks totally lost on offence.

One has to wonder if the Kings have any imput as to how they want their players handled or the amount of minutes they'd like them to get. I realize that Musslehead is the coach, but the Kings and the Warriors are sponsers for the team. Whiteside would probably learn more from practicing against his teammates on the Kings than he would playing 5 minutes a night. He must think he's been delegated to basketball hell. One things for sure. He'll really appreciate the NBA when he returns.
Quoted for truth. I'm really bummed Whiteside is getting such little playing time. This dude was projected to be a lottery pick by many of the top draft sites and here he is getting the run around in the D-League nonetheless. We are such a terrible team it's sad to think he can't get minutes for the Kings let alone the Bighorns. I see the obvious immaturity in his game but his upside alone is enough to place him closer to the NBA level than most of that Bighorn roster. Here's the thing too, isn't the point of the D-League to improve the game of people like Whiteside right on the cusp? He's not going to learn how to play in the NBA unless he gets some minutes. So what if he fouls out in 20 minutes? Give him 20 minutes in the inconsequential D-League and let him foul out and learn from it. PS I HATE Musselman and suspect he's at fault for this.

I actually rank Musslehead above Westphool.... Just by a hair though.

Whiteside must be raw as heck to not be getting PT. I doubt Muss is down there trying to screw us over by not playing our prospect. Dude wants to win as a coach, even if he's a d-league coach. If Whiteside can help him win, he'll get minutes. If Whiteside is wandering around the court, lost and confused, he'll get the bench.

Whiteside has ADD right? Maybe he needs to up the ritalin? :p

I can certainly understand Musselhead trying to make a name for himself. But its not called the coaches developmental league. Its called the players developmental league. Its all about developing players, and the NBA players that are sent down in particular, since its the NBA thats supporting the league. If the league pulls its support for the Reno team, it doesn't exist. So I don't give a tinkers damm about Musselhead's record at the end of the year. I care about Whiteside's development.

Well said. I hope the Maloofs have been making noise about this. Whiteside should be getting enough minutes every game to foul out. Period. He'll learn, and improve.

Another game, another low PT outing. 11 minutes and 43 seconds, 7 pts, 6 rebs, and 2 blks. I wonder what he's doing wrong that he can't outplay a Mo Charlo (who got 43+ minutes, 16 pts, 5 rebs, 5 asts, and 2 blks.) Maybe it's Muss playing small ball with a two guard and three small forward lineup?

Well, thats in the right direction mpg wise! :p

Pretty decent production stats wise too (although I am disappointed whenever he gets less than 5 blocks!).

I think we all have to be patient. If the dude isnt getting PT in the D-League, its because he is super super raw. Baby steps. GP didnt give him an extra long rookie deal for nothing. They know Whiteside is going to be a project. Hopefully he figures it out, cause if he does we will have a gnarly frontcourt. A jumpshooting PF who is a decent rebounder and an insanely elite weakside shot blocker? Its like he and DMC were made for each other!

I just think its fantastically funny that Muss is Whitesides coach.

I think sometimes we forget about Hassan, but Im very excited to see what kind of player he can be. He should be getting more minutes though.

SacramentoKings

The Kings today recalled center Hassan Whiteside from the Reno Bighorns of the D-League, it was announced by Geoff Petrie.

But he won't join the team on the road trip:

Whiteside will be returning to Sacramento, and he'll be working out in the City of Trees until the Kings return from their 6-game road trip.

Getting tired of watching him ride the pine or something brewing? Hmm.....

Anyone else smell a dalembert trade at the deadline?

Most of us have been smelling that (or a Landry trade, or both) for quite a while. I don't know if this move speaks towards that any more than it speaks towards Whiteside being given no time in Reno.

Odd though, truly odd, that you recall him, while the team is on the road on a long trip, and you don't send him on it? So you take him off the D-League team just so he can come and sit around home watching games on TV?

When the alternative is to sit around and watch games from the sideline in Reno, maybe it's not such a big deal. I assume they're going to try to get him up to speed with the offensive and defensive schemes rather than have him travel with the team and not have the time (particularly for the teachers not to have the time) to teach him.
