Well Vivek is learning yet another lesson.
When you run the most toxic organization in the league and have a clear split between the FO and your new coach, even overpaying FAs sees them running in the opposite direction. I hope Vivek is embarrassed by this, corrects the culture and fires Karl.

There are several guys you listed that I'd prefer over Matthews. As a combo of guys have mentioned, our starting core was decent last season (when healthy, of course). Adding smart pieces to the puzzle is the best way to improve the team. There are a lot of combos that make sense. Also, losing out on a flashy signing this year may open the door to better players next year. Sometimes the best signings are the ones you don't make.
If we make a serious offer to Rondo it better be on a 1 year deal. We need a motivated Rondo and the best way to do that is to make him play next season for his NBA life. There are plenty of guys like Marbury and Francis that had all the talent to be HOF players but their attitudes drove them out of the league. I haven't heard any other serious interest in Rondo too. Lakers?? Please, they have Clarkson, Russell, and Kobe who all need the ball. Knicks will only have $6 mil after DJ turns them down and they sign Robin Lopez.
Yes, there is always that big risk. Especially Wes pushes himself in his style of play. But we were going to take that risk because frankly, that's the only way we even have a chance.
But now the decision is made for us. No big deal, move on and move quick. We can still improve if we have a deep bench. Our starting 5 wasn't the problem.
If the Kings would have landed Wes Matthews for anywhere near the rumored $$ - a large faction of Kings fans would have whined about it being a bad deal. Many were complaining about it already. Now that they didn't get Matthews, some of those same fans are complaining. Can't have it both ways, people.

Then, suddenly, guys like Bobby Jackson, Jim Jackson and Keon Clark wanted to play here because a winning culture had been established. Even established veterans such as Mike Bibby and Brad Miller gave their blessing to trades and, eventually, re-signed. It can happen again. Just got to be patient.
Not that long ago, nobody wanted to play for the Warriors or Clippers either, despite the markets they are in. Even the Lakers are struggling to attract FA's. Same goes for the Knicks. Nobody wants to go to a place where there is a losing culture.

You've got one side, a smaller side, who really didn't want Matthews because of the cost and injury risk. Then you've got the other who wanted him and thought he'd be quite a boost as a 3rd option for this team, while accepting the injury risk. Then there were some between,

I don't know when you changed your views on things but cap space and free agency was always the last option for a small market non playoff team to build. We build through the draft and trades. Cap space can be valuable when used correctly like what Detroit or philly did. If we use the space correctly fine. But we gave up more than we should have seeing what the Suns did. I just hope we don't use up all this new cap space overpaying for 3rd tier free agents
