Kings 2009-2010 NBA Draft:

I think Cousins gets drafted as the 2nd pick. That will make everyone but me absolutely thrilled if we get the #3 pick.

That's what I've been wondering. If the Kings get the 3rd pick, then the first thing I'm going to be looking at is what the needs are of the 1st and 2nd teams are. Maybe they can't pass on Cousins. Minnesota, for example, might be hard pressed to pass on Cousins and take a guard.

After reading New Jersey newspapers its obvious that if they get the number one pick they'll definitely take Wall. Similar to the Kings of last year, they need something to stir plubic interest, and Wall would do that. Minny is a different story altogether. What we do know, is that they're not likely to take another point guard. So if they were to end up with the first pick, I suspect they would try to trade down. If they end up number 2, then your guess is as good as mine.

I could see them taking either Turner or Cousins. They certainly need a center. But at the same time, Cousins game greatly resembles Jeffersons. I can't see both of them on the floor at the same time. I can see Cousins and Love on the floor at the same time, but is Jefferson a guy you want coming off the bench? I doubt it.

I think they would take Turner. Minny has two more picks in the first round, and someone like Alabi might be available at their second first round pick. They also have two picks in the second round where guys like Parakhouski and Jerome Jordan would be available.

But, god forbid, what if the Warriors were to leapfrog everyone into first place. You have to doubt that they would take a point guard, having just drafted Curry. Turner would be inticing to them. In Nellies world of small ball he would put Turner at SF and use him as a point forward at times. Personally, the player that I think would be the best fit and also make an impact on the Warriors is Favors. The Warriors need someone to rebound the ball and play defense in the post. They also need that player to be able to run the floor. Nellie always dreams of having the perfect big man. His problem is that he never knows what to do with one when he gets one. Just ask Webb.

I suspect the Warriors would try to trade down a couple of spots but not out of the top four. I can't wait for the lottery to be over with so we can get down to honest speculation.

Even Nelson would be hard pressed to pass on Cousins. I think he's getting bored and frustrated with small ball myself. Cousins would complement the skinny quick guys they have.

Hopefully we won't have to see. Hopefully The Warriors stay right where they are. This should be a very interesting draft.

^^ I wonder if Nelly is even going to be there. He shouldn't be.

He stated that he was going to come back for the last year of his contract. But if the team has a new owner, who knows what will happen. The whole management team could be out on its head.

I just read that Favors has a standing reach of 9'1", which seems ridiculous. The guy can almost stand on his tippy toes and dunk. So what web site has the standing reach stats of players, anyway? Thanks.

I imagine all that will come out once they measure everyone at the draft combine. I am particularly interested in how Favors measures up--that could be a big factor in weighing him vs. Cousins should the Kings have the opportunity to decide between the two.

It means that he can almost stand on his tippy toes and touch the rim, but not dunk.

Believe it or not, but that's not exceptional for a 6'9-10" guy with a good wingspan. Don't get me wrong, its definitely quite good, but you can go back in the meaurement database and it doesn't really stand out.

Yeah, I thought it was extraordinary, but found it wasn't extreme. Thanks for the link.

Since they haven't held the combine yet, the measurements must come from last year at the USA vrs Europe game or perhaps the Nike highschool tournament. I know they usually measure the players at those. For instance I already have the measurements for Enes Kanter. He's 6'10.5" in shoes and has a 7'1" wingspan. He weighs 255. You'll be hearing a lot about him next season since he's going to play for Kentucky..

2010-2011 all NBA Defensive 1st team

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, Whew! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, Oh god, my stomach is starting to hurt..:D:D:D

I'm curious to see if Favors has grown at all since last year, he's still young enough where it's a decent possibility. Hopefully he has, because if he can play center then that would be huge for his projection.

VUT IS GOING ON??? greg monroe moving up nbadraft's draft board..

I haven't checked nbadrafts board in a while. I know he's listed around 8th or 9th on the DX board. And thats about right. DX has him going to Utah and Udoh right behind him going to the Pacers. I would probably switch the two. I think that Udoh is more of a Sloan type and Monroe is a better fit for the Pacers. DX has Bledsoe ranked too high in my opinion. He's a shooting guard in a 6'1" body. He's a great athlete, but he has zero point guard skills. I also think that DX had Aminu ranked to high at 5th. I'd move him down to the 8th spot and move Johnson up to the 5th spot.

I'm not really sure why you would rank Aminu ahead of Johnson. Aminu is a great athlete, but Johnson is a very good athlete as well, and Johnson is more skilled than Aminu. I believe they'll both be SF's in the NBA, so I don't see the logic there, unless they've talked to scouts from the teams and have some inside info. Hey, what the hell do I know?

It should be noted right now that DX has a disclaimer above their draft board that says their mock does not take into account team needs. So their list is more like a prospect ranking.

Whereas I have, believe it or not, 14 Kentucky games recorded that I have yet to delete. I decided to go back and start rewatching them to get a better idea of Daniel Orton's ability. To be honest, I didn't really pay the same attention to him that I did the others because I figured he would return to school. It didn't take as long as one might think to rewatch the games, as I fast forwarded to only the times he was on the floor. And since he only averaged around 13 minutes a game, well I think you see what I mean. Along with that I found some footage here and there of some of his highschool games.

He's a very talented kid. He's listed at 6'10" and looks every bit of it. He has a legitimate NBA body. He reminds me of a taller version of Zack Randolph a little bit. He appears to have a very long wingspan and is very athletic for a man his size. He runs the floor very well. Its hard to get a real good feel for what he's capable of in the short amount of time he's on the floor. But one thing is certain. He's a very good shotblocker. He had 4 blocked shots 4 times. And he managed to do that in 10 minutes in one game, 13 minutes in two games, and 17 minutes in one game. He averaged one blocked shot every 9.6 minutes. It doesn't take a math major to figure out that he averaging 4 plus blocks per 40.

He also averaged one rebound every 3.9 minutes, which is plus 10 per 40. Now remember, this guy only averaged 13 minutes a game. Which means he wasn't on the floor for 13 straight minutes, but probably for 4 minutes at a time. I think we can agree that its harder to get into a rhythm in such a short amount of time. So its hard to say what numbers he might have put up if given more time. One thing was apparent. He's a very good post defender. He's very hard to move in the post. He has very good lower body strength. He's also a very good help defender. He came out of nowhere sometimes to block a shot.

Offensively he's much better than I thought. Maybe I just didn't pay attention the first time through, or I was concentrating on someone else. But he has a variety of post moves with a little baby hook shot that he seems to like from the right post position. Left post if facing the basket. Obviously he prefers going over his left shoulder. But he also has quite a few tricks up his sleeve in the post. Showing a variety of dropsteps and up and under moves that will remind you of Al Jefferson a little. As a matter of fact, he was seldom stopped when he got the ball close to the basket, and he was more explosive than I thought. Away from the basket he does have a jumper and a pretty good one at that. He didn't take it much, but it will remind you of Duncan because he banks it in quite often.

After watching all the games and some of his highschool games, I came away impressed. He's a much better player than I thought. Actually, I didn't think at all. I just didn't really pay as much attention as I should have. So all this begs the question, if he's so good, why didn't he play more?

I thought about this for a while and came to the conclusion that Calapari knew that Wall and Cousins, and probably Patterson were going to enter the draft. So I think he knew how good Orton was, and figured that if he didn't showcase him, he'd have no choice but to return to school for another season. I think Orton surprised him when he declared for the draft. Likely Bledsoe did as well. In Bledsoe's case, I think he made a mistake. He's no Westbrook. At least not now he isn't, and I doubt he ever will be. But thats another story.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that after the combine and the workouts, Orton will end up being a lottery pick. If his height and length is legitmate, I think this kid is going to zoom up the draft boards. This is a big physical, athletic kid with skills. And folks, they don't grow on trees. Oh, and in case you were looking for some negatives, I'll at least give you one. He tends to be a foul magnet. I'm going to attribute it to only having a limited amount of time on the floor and playing harder than one would if you knew you were going to play most of the game. Can't say for sure thats the reason, but it'll do for now.

If the Kings were unlucky enough to get pushed into the 6th spot, I'd seriously take a long hard look at Orton.

I think I'd consider him if we dropped out of the top 4 too. Jonathan Givonni is pretty high on him too after watching tape of every play he was involved in. Not that I think Givonni's opinion is immaculate or something, but he made it sound like he was very surprised at just how talented he was after watching him so closely. He may be an unknown quantity, but honestly, there really isn't anything that intriguing to me after the top 4 anyway. I think Orton could very well move up rankings during the pre-draft workouts. He has big upside, but doesn't seem to be super raw like Whiteside.

Have to agree that nobody has to get their shorts in a knot about measurements until the combine measurements tell the truth. Can't listen to college coaches or agents.

I'd look at him too if it's the 6th spot. When I watched him, I just made a mental note to keep track of this guy. I didn't think he'd be coming out because Cousins was coming out and then he (Orton) could have the spotlight to himself at Kentucky. To me, it wouldn't be shocking if Orton ends up better than Cousins.

You never know. I think what surprised me was how good an athlete he was. He's very light on his feet and seems to have very good lateral quickness. There was one play where he blocked a jump shot from around 4 feet away at the top of its arc. I never realized that he had that kind of leaping ability. I've moved him ahead of Udoh on my list simply because of his size in the post. When you consider he blocked a shot every 9.6 minutes and Udoh blocked a shot every 9.5 minutes, its a push in that dept. Orton is a guy that could play both PF and Center. Whereas I see Udoh as strictly a PF. So he's more versatile.

When I watched Orton play this season, I was impressed by his size and defense. In the couple of games early in the season, I thought he was a bit mechanical on offense, but noticed that he seemed much more comfortable later in the season. I agree that he would be worth a look at #6 based on what he might turn into down the road. You just can't teach size and he already has good defensive instinsts.
