Kinda-sorta Babe thread redux

Disclaimer: This really isn't a rehash of the Hot Babe draft. I titled it thusly because I was inspired two create this OP by two things, one of which was that thread.

On another board I lurk on, there is a discussion of Audrey Hepburn, accompanied by a link to an "official" website (in quotes because I don't know how "official" a website can be that's devoted to a person who is no longer alive). In viewing the pictures on that website, I came to the realization that, even though I do not personally find her physically (in her prime, of course), I think that I grok her beauty, and why others would be attracted to her. As there was a little bit of contention going on during the Babe draft, I thought I would introduce this question: ever see someone that you could agree in an objective manner was handsome/beautiful, but you just don't find attractive on a personal level?

At this point, I'm not looking for the opposite (women that you don't get the attractiveness), just those that you do get, but don't agree. Aside from Audrey Hepburn, off the top of my head, I would also add Milla Jovovich, Cindy Crawford and Megan Fox.

The sister on Dexter, Jennifer Carpenter. Does nothing for me, but I have a friend or two who watch the show mainly just for her.

I can kinda see why though.

I think she's way super cute, but have a friend that thinks I'm insane.

To answer the original question, there are a lot of hunky actor types who fit that criteria for me. Particularly the somewhat bland, All-American, pretty boy look (Brad Pitt being the obvious exception, and even that's because of how successfully he fights against those looks). Ryan Phillipe, Casper Van Dien, way too many for a full list -- I can objectively recognize that they're handsome, but... mega yawn.

Beyonce. Christina Applegate. Jennifer Aniston. Sarah Michelle Parker. And a great many others.

It's just that sometimes, a person who is definitely good looking, for whatever reason doesn't chop your suey. I can acknowledge all of those women as good looking, but would never really think twice about them. Can't say exactly what's wrong with them either (head too big, eyes too small). They just don't do it for me.

Sarah Michelle Parker.
"...and Supes with his inhuman strength managed to crush Sara Michelle Gellar and Sara Jessica Parker together creating the most horse-face vampire slayer the earth had ever seen."

Same difference. And it applies to both.

;)

And definitely add Gisele Bundchen(?) to that list. Why Tom Brady would leave Bridget Moynahan for her, I don't know. As a matter of fact, she doesn't even make that list. Her face is not attractive at all to me.

Anne Hathaway is someone who I feel the opposite about. I dig her, but understand why others don't.

oh, any number of women.

Scarlett Johanssen is a great current example. Beyonce can be, although I've seen her look great at times. Never got Madonna really. Respected her, but no interest. Elizabeth Hurley was always that way too. And frankly Marilyn Monroe for that matter. These things are often a tad mysterious.

Just to put a line under the unpredictability:

Dig Elisha Cuthbert. Do not really dig Scarlett Johnansen. (or we could go with dig Jennifer Lover Hewitt for bodies)

Dig Halle Berry, do not really dig Beyonce.

Dig Kate Beckinsale, do not really dig Elizabeth Hurley.

Dig (kinda) Sharon Stone, do not really dig Madonna.

Marilyn might be a little different in that could be an era/changing conceptions of beauty thing. But just for the heck of it, dug Jane Fonda, dug Raquel Welch, did not did really dig Marilyn Monroe (a generation before obviously, which might be the issue -- few of the old pinups do much for me).

You would be hard pressed to find rational reasons for that kind of thing. Its amazing we managed to make it as far as we have as a species given the seemingly random and often completely irrational reasons we decide we like others as potential mates (ahem: women and their badboy issues).

P.S. I could even sign on with the Giselle thing too.

See, now this is just crazy. I don't understand how anyone could pass on Scarlett Johannsen. Honestly.

Without turning this into a discussion of who's overrated, etc., I never found Madonna even remotely attractive, either. Not even in A League of Their Own, when she was supposedly at her prime. No thanks.

There is no way to argue against Scarlett's physique, but she is utterly boring. ;)

This is an interesting discussion. Everybody's attractions are individual, although obvioously some presons are attractive to a large number of people. Culture tends very much to proscribe what beauty and attractiveness are. It was very interesting to read "The Kite Runner" and have the man describe his wife's unibrow as one of her features he most loves. He compares them to a bird on the wing.

In my opinion, women find men attractive for things that may only be implied by appearance. Power, wealth, virility, strength (less so now) = protection and providing for children. Woman's biological imperative.

Having said all that, I could never understand the attraction of David Niven, Fred Astaire or Bing Crosby as leading men. (Old school, I know. :p)

I could see the attraction with Bogart, Clark Gable, Brando and John Wayne but I never found any of them very attractive, except Bogart (and it wasn't his looks).

By the way, I'm old, but all of those guys were my mother's generation. I just saw a lot of them growing up. I was in love with Steve McQueen.

I'd have to think on more current sex symbols, a bit. I pay less attention now. ;)

Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz, and Drew Barrymore. Never did see Charlie's Angels all the way through.

If you don't find at least 1 of them attractive, then it's very understandable. I like Diaz (she looked unbelievable in The Mask), but I don't find the others too attractive

After recently watching Get Smart for the first time, I felt as though I had to dig up this thread and rescind my comments about Ms. Hatheway. She looked great in some scenes.
