Kg!

Well it's official that the T-Wolves are shopping KG. Is he still worth going after? He only has 2 years left on his contract.

Bibby / Miller

for

KG

For several years the KG proposals made sense...if he was ont eh amrket. You figured we had enough that we could afford to do what it took to get KG and still have enough left to contend once he arrvied. But I'm not sure that's true anymore, and I don't think that's where we are headed now. There is also the fact that I don't think KG would accept coming here anymore than he did going to Boston. Rookie coach, unsettled lineup, lottery team.

There is also this: you have to be realistic. In order to get Kevin Garnett to Sacto it would absolutely cost Kevin and the #10, and THEN we would get around to the other vets to make salaries match. And without big ending contracts, our proposal gets weaker still.

Just taking the Celtics offer of Jefferson, #5, Telfair (ender), Wally and Ratliff (ender) for KG and Hudson, our own would be myabe:

Kevin (=Jefferson), #10 (< #5), Brad (Wally) and...Reef maybe? Kevin and Foye would be their new young backcourt, hence Bibby does not work, and you need him here anyway. But that doesn't help Minny wiht ending contracts, and instead dumps more long termers on them.

In any case we come out of it with

Bibby
Salmons
Artest
KG
Williams?

Cisco
Thomas
Price
MLE player (who would be key, either center or OG)

And maybe, maybe that works. That is potentially an extremely strong defensive frontcourt. But I would no longer really bet on it being harmonious. And we've got a rookie coach to try to control it. In that sort of scenario the bring back Bonzi idea gains more credence if he opts out. But then you may really have a powder keg. Meanwhile your youth movement is scuttled. So you absolutely need it ot work out.

The KG idea is no longer as yummy to me as it once was. The hole in our bucket has officially become large enough that even an atheletic 7' former-MVP would still constitute a hasty patch job.

he declined going to Boston even though he doesn't have a no trade clause. why does he have this leverage? because he can opt out next year which would've done them no good. so, he'd probably do the same thing if he were gonna be coming here.

so i say we trade for him anyway, as long as we can keep Kevin, and then have $20+ million coming off the books next offseason

this is all assuming they'd wanna dump him for and combo of Bibby, Artest, Miller, KT, or SAR

You can NOT keep Kevin and acquire KG. There is just no way. No other piece on our roster has the youth/value combo they are going to insist on. Acquiring KG = sticking with the vets and making a veteran title run now. You have to give up the future to do it though. No having your cake and eating it too.

no way. he'd say negative to that trade also :D lets be realistic here. KG and sac is no good anyway. He doesn't do anything for us except keep us in mediocrity. This will only slow our rebuilding process. as someone said before, just pull the damn band aid off instead of peeling it already.

I would not wish this upon KG. From one perennial early-exit playoff team to a rebuild situation.

the KG window has closed for sac.

why the hell would KG agree to getting traded here? Basically, the kings are one KG-type player away from being.... the Twolves with KG. Two years ago(or POSSIBLY even last offseason), the Kings could've conceivably convinced KG that they were one KG away from being contenders. Now.... uh.... not so much.

He has an opt out after next year, he can void any deal he wants because no team is going to trade for one year of Garnett. Garnett will never be traded to us, that's just the simple truth.

i don't think they would trade miller and bibby for kg, they're trying to get younger, but it makes nno sense to trade for kg even if we do we wouldn't be a championship contender.

I don't think it was ever open. With that said, I don't think KG would want to come here.

my point was that he doesnt have the power to nix a trade. he can just remind us that he'll opt out if he's traded to us, in which case we say "OK!!!" and have $22 million come off the books next year

but as Brick said, there's no way we keep Kevin and do this.

i know its an impossible scenario, but a guy can dream about keeping Kevin Martin and having $22 million to spend next year, right?
