Kenyon Martin?

rainmaker

Hall of Famer
Rumors are that he's getting released from his contract. I'm not a huge fan of his, but he does have length, is a good defender, a vet, can hit a jumper, and still pretty athletic around the rim.

Would you go after him cheaply? I'm not sure I would. Just considering our options. He does bring a level of nastiness and defensive length we don't have at the moment.

Real thing is that he's not that far above the guys we already have anymore, so then you have guys who are kind of shrugs, 1 of whom who is getting no minutes, and another of whom will be getting limited minutes. That's not really an argument against Martin so much as it just is a statement that something would have to give. We'd just have to move somebody.

I agree with Brick here. Not that I don't like him .. I mean, I may even prefer him (for his defense and experience) over a guy like Hickson or Thompson if we could get something back for one of those guys in a deal, but that seems like a lot of movement to ask out of a relatively lazy front office and limited time till the season starts.

Yeah, there really isn't room. Thing is, I think Whiteside has shown he's not close to contributing, so we have a 4 man rotation for our 4's and 5's. Aside from Chuck and hopefully an improved defensive Cousins, Martin is a better defender than either Hickson or JT, and a much better help defender than both. Hell, if it was cheap, I wouldn't mind him as the first big off the bench, with Hickson/JT battling it out for the 4th spot, and hopefully trading the other.

And if Hayes were to get hurt, we really don't have much defense we can throw out there at the 4 spot, and Martin if Cousins were out for any reason, would probably be the best option at center, over Hayes/JT/Hickson.

Like I said, not really high on him, but if we're not bringing in another center, and not bringing in a shotblocker......

But we're an injury to Cousins or Hayes away from getting dominated in the paint just about every night.

"If we can get him cheap?". Do Some of you live in caves? In this poor FA season Kenyon is the last of the bigs with defense and experience who can score some.. Right now Sacto is on the bottom 1/3 of the league, not where we can go but where we are exactly now. Cheap and Sacto in same sentence for a FA big right now? Sorry but don't think so now or anytime soon. but what would it be worth to try to get him? Hickson is better than most of you think. I watched him play "real" game like scrimmages up in Las Vegas this summer against his peers (Stephen Jackson for example) and get the better of all of them. He also came into camp in shape.

if he still has the "lips" tattoo then i'll say no.
I have some good news for you then, the tattoo is now of a crown.
