Keith Brumbaugh

G-League
what about him with one of the second round picks? i know he's a SF and we have enough of that but he might become a good player. he's a low risk high reward kind of guy.

What ever happened to him anyway? Wasn't he all set to go to OSU? NM found the article..

Keith Brumbaugh was a top-notch college prospect in 2005, but off-court problems derailed his NBA dream. After a one-year stint as the top scorer on the junior college level, Brumbaugh informed officials Friday that he plans on entering the NBA draft. more...

Keith Brumbaugh, 6'9 and 205lbs 36.5ppg 10.0rpg 6.1apg 4.8spg

Not a bad idea to take a chance on a former McDonald's all American.

I don't know much about him, but with the high miss rate of most second round picks anyway I could think of lot worse ideas then taking a chance on a former blue chip prospect.

"Brumbaugh was arrested six times over a 26-month span and also served two jail sentences, but he says he's learned from his mistakes."

That gives me pause. However, I agree with the previous posters. I'd take a 2nd round flier on this guy.

I'm wondering if he'd even require a 2nd round pick. The guy is obviously a very talented player -- how talented would be hard to pinpoint, since he's never played against anything more than community college competition -- but I think his various arrests may keep him from being drafted. Not so much the ones like shoplifting and marijuana, but the one discussed in this article sounds a bit scarier.

Meanwhile, our discussion here appears to account for a significant percentage of the google traffic related to his name.

So I'm seeing the guy as way far below the radar. If Geoff feels ready, after the relatively minor Muss and 3Will incidents, to take someone like that on, I don't think it'll be very hard to do.

^^According to that article he has had questionable judgement, to say the least. He may very well have turned things around with a new little daughter, but I'd be a little leery. If, as he claims, "basketball is his life," it should have been easy to avoid the mistakes he made. If he really wanted it that much, then it should have been a no-brainer to avoid trouble.

(It bugged me that his coach said he was "just like any other" kid. Uh....no.)

I don't see the image-conscious Maloof and Petrie taking on this trouble-maker. Maybe he's very talented, but he's 22 yrs old already, lacks top level experience, and he plays a position (combo forward) where the supply outstripes the demand.

Also, it's not like he was a top 3 talent in his class. He was ranked #14 among the 2005 class behind the likes of Richard Hendrix, Tyler Hansbrough, Mario Chamlers, and Brandon Rush. All those guys have a lot more experience and good coaching under their belt and they've likely progressed much further relative to Brumbaugh in the same period. All those guys are going at late first or second round (with only Hansbrough capable of cracking mid first). Using that progression, if Brumbaugh had gone to school and played three yrs, he's probably right where Hendrix/Rush/Chamlers are - late first/early second. But he has since fell behind and taking him at where we pick (mid second), is probably a big reach. I think at best he's a late 2nd rounder. And if I have to guess, I'd say he's not going to get drafted if he stays in.

Whatever else happens, I hope the guy ends up in the DL. He seems like an absolutely perfect candidate. Would get to show his stuff against tougher competition, get better coaching, and if he made it through several months there without incident, people might relax a little about his past problems.

Now if our management would just notice that the DL exists, and is waiting for us to use it...

Really skilled, talented guy. Blowing the competition away, albeit against JUCO competition. But there's things that give me pause: 1) he literally just miraculously appeared suddenly in the draft boards while not being there for most of the year. 2) JUCO competition. Probably needs a better envrionment to show his stuff, although we'll see how he does in workouts, 3) So many off the court problems and bad history. Really was out of basketball scouts' minds the past couple of years--heralded at first, irrelevant in the middle, and pops back scouts' minds again--he seems like an up and down roller coaster. Don't know if we want that, and 4) Does the name Qyntel Woods, Kedrick Brown strike anyone? Two JUCO superstuds who averaged 30something points there but both are out of this league due to weight problems/off the court problems respectively. Brumbaugh may have the same fate, and 5) He's admittedly worth a flier on in the mid to late 2nd round due to his enormous talent, and can be useful for a team with multiple draft picks. But he's a SF through and through, and that's not a position of need for us.

You don't pick for need in the second round, period.
