Kayte C needs to be replaced

I cannot listen to the broadcasts because Kayte just talk endlessly and will not stop her long stories. She talks over the play by play and it clear it annoys mark and Kyle. You can tell Kyle just says “uh huh” and “yah” and “k” just waiting for her to stop. I think either Deuce or Mo would be a great replacement. Honestly it’s nice to move on to something different sometimes. Not everyone should have a long term career like the G-man, but I fear they will just let Kayte stay because it’s what we have done, not what’s best.

I agree with the long-winded, off-topic, irrelevant portions of Kayte's commentary. Also in agreement with the disruptions of the game circumstance and play-by-play coverage. Additionally, her game-to-game commentary is certainly repetitive.

However, she is an experienced professional basketball player that often shares insights into the game and strategies that might otherwise be missed by the casual viewer. But there are other color commentators on other broadcasts that are far worse regardless of their credentials.

Great sideline reporter, absolutely awful color commentator.

She talked through 4 straight possessions yesterday without even allowing any play by play. Usually I just tune her out because she never shuts the hell up. Now she's trying to play the self deprecating "I'm old" role that Jerry used to play and it's just annoying. She's mid 40s, not 70+. No one is buying that she is falling apart and we certainly don't want to hear her talk about it multiple times per game. Especially when she has none of the charm that Jerry has.

I think we all know exactly why Kayte is going to stay in that role for a long time and it has nothing to do with her commentary skills. What sucks is she would not be talking like she does if Grant was still around. He would have trained her up in a hurry like he did with Doug.

IMO, her “insights” are often wrong and filled with cliches and meaningless comments. She also has a horrible basketball IQ in terms of figuring out what is going on during controversial calls, challenges, etc. Often times it take her like a full minute and 5 different angles of a replay to finally understand what happened, when anybody with a decent feel for the game knew exactly what happened right away.

Of true at all her insights are apparent to a cau basketball fan. Listens to deuce and Mo lost came they go over actual basketball plays and sets. They show were breakdowns and successes occur. That should be 100% what the color analyst does. I’m not interested in how Russ was with his daughters before the game or how Derozan is the master of the midrange for the 1000th time. I’d rather be about the actual game.

They constantly get calls wrong. Its not that difficult to look at the offical making the 2 or 3 pt call (arms up or down). Dont look at their feet and the line.

Yes.

Not to pile on, but she’s just simply not good in this role.

Basically she still does sideline style storytelling commentary but does it throughout the whole game, instead of just a handful of times per game coming out of timeouts.

In game story telling is for the play by play guys. Like Mark manages to tell the whole “teams have a cash cup in the locker room and players have to put in a dollar every time they bite on a Deebo pump fake” story usually very quickly within the shot clock.

Long analysis needs to be reserved for stoppages in play, replays, free throws, etc. Other than that most good color commentators can add their lines before a team enters their offensive set.

Mark does a better job commanding the booth but Kyle often has a hard time working with Kayte and seems most of his calls have to come in interruption of a Kayte soliloquy

I certainly don’t enjoy her in this role. Liked her as a sideline reporter. Liked her on the morning drive show with Carmicheal Dave. Not my cup of tea

I agree wholeheartedly, I think Morgan would be good in her role or maybe even Deuce. If not one of them get another former King or former coach in that role. Kayte can be sideline reporter again

Worst thing Kayte continues blabbering nonsense during too many exciting Kings breakaways going 94 feet to the basket to score. She constantly ignores full court fast breaks, blind to ultra fast live action. Terrible color announcer, must love her own rambling voice. Needs to go!

If I am watching the game I don't need anyone telling me there's a fast break going on. This isn't radio.

I've enjoyed her work more in previous years. Maybe all the losing this team is doing makes her job harder, I don't know. But some of these complaints are pretty silly to me.

Any time we join a KINGS game in progress, my wife and I joke that Kayte will be talking. 95% of the time, she is. And the other 5% of the time we just happen to join during a commercial break. 🤣

If you think she’s a rambler now you should have heard her ask questions during postgame when she had the sideline reporter gig. It really drives my wife crazy because Kayte can rarely ask a simple, straightforward question and, instead, typically waterboards the interviewee with a long prefaced story that she thinks makes her sound smart.

We gave her a chance to change our minds the first season. But, boy, is she AWFUL.

We all know why she got the gig and why she still has it. And it ain’t because she’s the best or most qualified.

TBF, I don’t think Mark Jones and Kyle Draper are all that good either. But they aren’t Kayte level bad.

However, she is an experienced professional basketball player that often shares insights into the game and strategies that might otherwise be missed by the casual viewer. But there are other color commentators on other broadcasts that are far worse regardless of their credentials.

She brings absolutely nothing to the broadcast. Nothing. Except incessant rambling. No avid or experienced NBA viewer is learning anything they didn’t already know.

Her “WNBA” playing experience is no more relevant to the NBA game than HS football is to the NFL. They are technically the same sport, but completely different games played at completely different levels. The ball is smaller. The 3 point line is closer. The game time is shorter.

The only thing her professional experience has in common with NBA’ers is the travel. And even that is drastically different since the WNBA plays half the games against half the teams and nowhere near the back-to-backs. They don’t even play the same number of minutes per game.

A former men’s player that only played collegiately at the FCS level would own a better perspective, as that game is played above the rim and with better, quicker, faster, longer athletes.

People can be mad about that all they want, but it doesn’t change the reality.

That said, I don’t think former men’s players are anymore qualified to provide tremendous insight into the women’s game as they play completely different versions of the game, too, and lack first-person perspective of what the ladies go through in that league.

I was going to say that I’d much rather try listing to Morgan Ragan, who as a longtime, passionate fan seems to understand the men’s game better and would likely not be as “chatty kathy”.

However, I’ve read complaints about her from Valkyrie fans, so who knows? I’d have to hear Morgan call a good number of games to know for sure.

I didn’t like Mark Jones at first, but once I learned his nuances, he’s been good.
I personally like Draper as the fill-in for Jones. Certainly not polished and comes across as silly at times but I enjoy it.
Kayte on the other hand is seemingly getting worse.

Yeah, Jones is an acquired taste IMO. Lots of corny catch phrases trying to sound funny and clever, but other than that he does a fairly good job. I don’t dislike Draper as much as many others seem to, but I wouldn’t claim that he’s really good either. Kinda “mid” as the kids say.

Jerry Reynolds had a lot of cornball sayings, too, but he somehow always came off differently to me. I’ve always liked listening to him. Gary Gerould has been and always will be my absolute favorite. He’s the best the KINGS (in Sacramento) have ever had IMO.

My wife and I are retired educators. We both cringe at Jones' heavily thesaurus-based vocabulary. It is especially annoying when the particular word or phrase is misused, out of place, or irrelevant. Keep dialog simple and clear.

Cornball is acceptable if not repeated incessantly.

They wouldn't wear them, if it didn't gain interest

I have always detested the double standard of male/female broadcasters. Typically, the men on the panel are wearing a jacket and tie, or at the very least some type of business attire (even if business casual) while the seemingly majority of women get to wear their Friday night clubbing outfits. Usually no collars or sleeves.

Yet we’re constantly lectured about taking these women seriously as “journalists/broadcasters” like their male colleagues. Sorry, but that’s hypocrisy at its finest.

I’ve heard people say “well, they are directed to dress that way by their employers”. While likely partly true, I don’t hear many of these women crying Argentina about it in the press or leveraging “me too” to expose their horrible bosses for making them dress in a manner that makes them uncomfortable. So I gotta assume that most of them simply prefer to show themselves off.

And if that’s what they want to do — more power. But the consequences of showing off their figures is that many viewers aren’t going to take them as seriously as their male counterparts who dress much more professionally/conservatively. And many of us don’t want to hear them complain when that happens. And even more than that, many of us don’t want to hear them complain when they are viewed as objects or when receiving negative comments about their attire.

You reap what you sow when making adult decisions.

Yeah well that's just like you're opinion, man.

I was a bit surprised to read this in 2026, but then I saw your username and it suddenly made some sense.
