Kawhi Leonard

I can't imagine getting Kawhi through trade. The Spurs apparently wanted to let the market dictate his value. So he'll be an RFA next year, and we could bid on him if we have the cap space, but I'd figure the Spurs would just match. I don't see him going anywhere. And definitely not in a trade.

Looks like Kawhi Leonard didn't get an extension. Any chance that Kings can get him via trade? Your thoughts here?
I think Leonard is overrated. The reason why he looks so good is because he plays for the Spurs. Leonard has been really success in the NBA because of the system the Spurs have. He's a really passive player who can't create his own shot.

He's sort of what we hope Ben to be one day.. a 3&D guy. The only difference between Leonard coming into the league and Ben coming into the league is that Leonard benefited from being drafted by the Spurs, and Ben did not. If Ben was n the Spurs, he'd probably look like a really really promising player.

Wouldn't want Leonard for the max. Maybe some team out there will gamble on his potential?

Not really.. When Leonard came out he was already know as a lockdown defender..which he has continued to do in the pros...only now he has developed a better offensive game. Sure being drafted by the Spurs helped, but he he is far from being overrated..I would say he is underrated.

The only chance to obtain Leonard is to give him a max contract that is front loaded or some such thing....not sure it's even possible as I'm not familiar enough with that area. Would love to have him and put him at SG.

I wouldn't say that Leonard is overrated, but I do tend to think that 206Fan and gunks are hovering around a good point: people tend to underrate the importance that good coaching has on player development. Like, I've never thought very much of Phil Jackson, but Del Harris didn't manage to do much when he had Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant.

Look at the big man comedy of errors in the mid-late nineties, that was precipitated by our own Chris Webber: the Wizards sent Rasheed Wallace to Portland, because they couldn't figure out how to develop Wallace while still playing Webber, and Portland, in turn, sent Jermaine O'Neal to Indiana, for almost exactly the same reason. No fewer than two teams got rid of Ben Wallace before he became an All-Star, because they couldn't figure out what to do with him (the Magic might have even tried to make him a shooting guard, IIRC). Chauncey Billups looked like a Top 15 bust of all time, until he got to Detroit.

A good coach/the right situation can maximize a player's potential, and a bad coach/the wrong situation can kill a player dead, before he gets off the ground. I wanted Leonard over Fredette as much as any other poster still here (as opposed to the Fredette fans, of course, who have presumably all left) but, as gunks alluded to, I can see a perfectly reasonable turn of events where Keith Smart gets a hold of that kid, and he ends up being the prototype version of Thomas Robinson.

OP, you do know the season has started...correct? so there is no need for out of the blue threads such as these. That being said, it seems the Spurs will let the market dictate how much Kawhi will be getting and just match it.

pipe dream id say. There is a bit of that system player concept also so im not sure if the money would be better spent ?

Leonard is going nowhere. It appears all our attention at the SF position is on Gay at the moment. So I doubt Leonard's name has even crept into PDA's mind. If you want to go after a good defender go after Butler. He's more likely to be moved than Leonard.

Jimmy Butler?
