Just when will we hear Calipari rumors again?

My prediction is that those rumors start within a week of the season ending.

Anything is possible with Vivek, but I would hope that he's learning to hedge his bets a little more. Calipari was reportedly asking for crazy money and a very long contract.

It isn't like Calipari is a guaranteed to be a good NBA head coach. He flamed out after a little over two seasons in New Jersey. And one of the biggest reasons to consider Calipari is his relationship with Boogie. If the Kings don't get things turned around I don't think Cousins will be a King for more than 1 or 2 seasons.

Not to mention that if the minority owners could stop Karl from getting canned this season I think they'd definitely stop Vivek from firing Karl only to hire Caliparit at $10 million per.

I think Cal would be a great NBA coach. He's honestly had a harder job coaching at Kentucky, trying to get the biggest 18 year old egos to play together and live up to their potential and talent. And it's worked.

But he's the king of college basketball and no reason for him to leave. Gets paid a ton of money already and has the opportunity to recruit whomever he wants. It'd take him getting the highest $$ deal of any coach and likely some or all GM control to get him to leave.

I don't entirely disagree but...pssst...

John Calipari NBA coaching record:
97-97 NJN 26-46
97-98 NJN 43-39
98-99 NJN 3-17
-------------------------------
TOTAL 72-112 .391

:)

Might have stuck more in my mind because I was out here, I even attended a few games. Of course its entire possible he's learned something in the last 20 years. But he came, he saw, he fell flat on his face, and it was up to Byron Scott and Lawrence Frank to get the Nets to the Finals.

I'm really hoping the combination of an elite center and Vlade can get us a top established unemployed guy. The consequences fro this next guy being a reach and failing are just enormous.

meh.

in 1996, I was 4 years old and just nailing down my ABC's. I'd like to think I've learned a thing or two since then :)

For me, I don't have to look any further than his last 5 years at Kentucky. A big part of being a successful coach (and what we've sorely been missing since Adelman) is managing personalities and getting them to buy into what your selling. He's takes several of the best recruits in the country, all of whom would be stars at other schools and turns out a team that contends for a national championship every year.

Of course the big selling point is we'd finally be committing to building around Cuz the right way. I can't think of a better way to keep him around than bringing in one of the few coaches we know for certain he'd have an excellent relationship with.
