Since Monroe can veto any trade, it may be a while before SVG decides to move Josh Smith , if at all

I think this risk that Monroe is willing to take and pass up a $60 mil contract to get out of Detroit, mainly to get out of playing alongside Josh Smith sends a clear message to SVG that Monroe wants out and if he doesn't trade JSmoove, he will leave next summer.
I think that puts more pressure on SVG to move JSMoove before the October 1st signing of qualifying offer. Generally, you want your cornerstone players signed to long term contracts and not leave after one year. If Monroe has to sign a one year offer now, he is for sure gone next year.
Wouldn't this mean Smoth is less likely to be traded. Monroe is making it clear that he hates it there and now they can't match any offers so they can't risk trading Smith then loosing Monror next season.
My sentiments exactly. I couldn't imagine a scenario where Detroit keeps Smith and let's Monroe leave. It doesn't match up with what we've heard form The Pistons and doesn't make good common sense. Not sure what SVG is doing. I don't like Monroe, but Monroe-Drummond is a great combo. It is the sort of combo we envision when we talk about Cousins and x defensive big. Granted, Cousins is better than Monroe, but Monroe-Drummond is a great pairing.
The problem is Smith. He is the exact wrong fit for that duo. He cannot play the 3 and kills their cap. They really should trade him for cap relief. You can't tell me that Detroit with a second scorer on the wing, a role player wing, and above average point guard isn't a threat in the East.
Drummond
Monroe
Singler/Meeks
Second Scorer (using the Smith cap space to sign or trade for someone like Kevin Martin, Arron Aaflalo, or Jeff Green)
Brandon Jennings (I hate Jennings game, and would try to change him out, but he is signed there)
I highly doubt it. I think it is the same process with went through getting Rudy Gay. You have a talented player who is overpaid and is put in a position to fail. He is getting a smashing in the media as a bust but our guys are looking at him and thinking, well we are not going to play him at SF, he will also not be our primary option offensively. Hell he won't be a 2nd option either. We would play him in spots where he is proven to be effective and with reduced shot his efficiency will improve so why not try and get this guy on the cheap. He addresses a need, improves the talent level and all for some $13.5 million a season over the next 3 years. When you look at it. We will be paying Landry and JT close to that amount for the same length of the deal so really, it doesn't affect the cap space that much if we can include one of those guys into the dealI have a feeling WE are the ones asking for the sweetener in the deal. And it makes sense Smith's contract is ridiculous compared to his production especially at the 3 YUCKY.
All $13.5M tied on one player. He addresses a need, improves the talent level and all for some $13.5 million a season over the next 3 years. When you look at it. I rather have a 6'7 undersized Josh Smith over any player on our roster other than Cousins, he's a two way player and decent passer with insane athletic ability.. If he goes back to his Hawks production the contract is not that bad, people need to realise he was put in a position to fail and he took it with both hands. We have been dying for years for a legit shot blocker/finisher next to Cousins I don't see why it would fail, if it is going to fail it's going to be because of Rudy Gay most likely who's contract is up at the end of the year anyway. All $13.5M tied on one player.
If the experiment fails, do you think Josh Smith's contract will be easier to move than the separate contracts of JT and a healthy Landry?
If it will be, I think the 6' 7" (without shoes) undersized PF Josh Smith will not be as bad to gamble on.

I would have zero issues giving away Landry/Williams for Smith even if Williams is expiring no need to ask for a pick backWell if the proposed deal is Landry & JT for Smith then it's a square deal but I get the impression they are asking for JT and a expiring in which case I ask for a pick in included in the deal because of the higher risk factor. Maybe we throw in a second rounder to somewhat ease the blow but the Monroe situation is not looking rosy for them.

I would have thought Landry with his mid range jumper would have been a better fit and could mix well with both Monroe and Drummond as a 6th man.Exactly which is why the deal is not done they're trying to get outta Smith's deal clean as a whistle because if you think about it JT is a pretty damn good option for them behind Drummond and Monroe. Who else is out there looking to add Smith's contract to their books? CRICKETS
Here is the thing. You are not getting the same talent for so little unless there is risk involved. Josh Smith has not forgotten how to play basketball in the last 12 month the same way Rudy Gay did not forget how to play while he was in Toronto. He is in a situation that is asking him to be something he is not. He is not a #1 and he is not a SF. He was asked to be both in Detroit. You get him out of that situation and get him inro spots where you know he is effective and he is a completely different player. Sure he still might be a bit overpriced at his deal but it's not as monsterous as it appears now.Well if the proposed deal is Landry & JT for Smith then it's a square deal but I get the impression they are asking for JT and a expiring in which case I ask for a pick in included in the deal because of the higher risk factor. I would give them Landry, Williams, and Terry for Smith. That is the type of move that is a low risk/high reward move and it would help balance out our roster next year.
Don't need to include both Williams and Terry. Landry & Terry OR Landry & Williams would get the deal done. If Detroit was open to either deal I think they'd prefer Williams as he gives them both cap relief and a stopgap SF whereas Terry likely only offers cap relief since I question whether he'd play a game for the Pistons.
Good point but it also hinges on Detroit being willing to take on an extra $5.45 million in salary this season to take Jason Terry as well.
Curious to see if any additional moves (beyond end of the bench signings) actually happen before the Kings start the season.

Either way a starting lineup of Cousins, Smith, Gay, Stauskas and Collison SHOULD equate to very good ball movement. All five guys can handle and are above average passers for their position.
They are average at best imoI don't think Gay or Collison are above average passers at their respective positions. And with Stauskas, it's a little early to tell.

While I agree that its too early to predict the outcome of Stauskas transition to the NBA, it is encouraging that he led his team in assists last season while seldom turning the ball over.
