If I was starting a pick-up game on my playground and I could have ANY current Kings player in uniform I'd take Johnny Salmons. He's effortless, he lets the game come to him, he's versatile, he plays solid defense, he's always cool, calm and collected. He's a very good basketball player!

One question:

When Kevin returns, which one of these guys do you trade?

There's no way you are going to be able to, in any long term fashion, convince a guy playing at Salmons' level to return to the bench.

i'd take brad miller. you usually don't see too many 7 footers in pick up games. :p

While I agree it might cause some stress, the dude's under contract for 4 more years. After Salmons started in place of Artest for the first seven games of the season he dutifully went back to the bench when Ron returned. The media and some Kings fans said all hell was breaking loose and a mutiny was about to engulf Theus. It didn't happen. Just like when the coach announced his new rules for the road. No gripping from the players, just some fans and some media raising eyebrows. IMO John Salmon's is not a hot head by nature, very professional, and therefore not likely to cause a problem. He's always going to be getting LOTS of minutes and be on the floor at the END of games as much as any Kings "star."

I just wonder where this team would be (10-14 currently) if Ron had not missed the first 7 games and if Bibby and Martin had never been side-lined?

Marc Jackson was into Salmons as well. I watched on Direct TV ch 95 the YES channel from NJ in full HD.

On a Salmons led fast break "There goes John up stream again thru all the Nets...." or when he said, "John smoked the Nets on a drive to the bucket". The other announcer about lost it and said Marc MUST be about through with his (metaphoric) comments by now.

Yep, John showed what he is capable of. To have him off the bench with Cisco and now Jones is going to be an improvement.

The one that has the highest value he's had in about 3 years, and also the same one that can opt out of his contract at the end of the year.

that's where Artest comes in..

Trade Artest and let Salmons start at SF. I know he might be a bit small at that position, but he does play some solid BBall.

At least then we can convince Garcia that he needs to come off the bench. If we were to say that to Artest I dunno what would happen :D

I BELIEVE......In Theus as our coach!

I think the Kings are at the beginning of a new Journey.

Tonight we're going to party like it's 19-97! (The year before things really started to turn around)

I agree.

:)

Not that I thought this would end up a "trade scenario" thread.

I have a strange feeling that Petrie is going to keep this team together for the season. They are definitely overachieving without Bibby, and one could only wonder what their record would be had everyone been healthy and not suspended for long periods of time. Mikki Moore is starting to make Petrie not look so foolish with his improved play, and the signing of Dahntay Jones looks to be another Geoff gem. I think Petrie, Theus and the Maloofs all think this team can make a playoff push.

Keeping this squad together isn't want I want to see, just a feeling I have.

BTW, John Salmons is the man... and Brad Miller is this team's MVP so far.

I wouldn't be upset if they continue with this squad. Who knows what might happen? Championship caliber? No. Exciting to watch and fun? Oh, definitely. And games like tonight can restore interest in the hometown fans.

You play with the cards you're dealt. Theus, so far, is getting better and better at playing the hands he's been dealt, even with the twists and turns.

This team may have flaws and it might not get out of the first round, but it's FUN. And I think that's gonna make a difference to a lot of fans.

It's a fun year and I can't really put my finger on the "why" of it. Maybe it's simple. I didn't expect much of anything and I see a few guys overachieving - if that's what it is. Maybe they are just achieving.

...and no one want's his $24 million left on his contract after this year, either...so we're stuck with him, from how I see it.

These performances make it at least conceivable agin -- he is not pure dead weight tied to a mega-contract thus far. For a team that was already in the playoffs, looking to take a next step, and shy a big man, I could actually see it now, whereas over the summer you were having to really squint.

I think you trade the guy who said two years ago:
"his agent told The Post that if the Queensbridge native wasn't dealt to the Knicks, he'd just opt out of the final year of his contract and sign with them as a free agent. "

I have really warmed up to Ron Ron but If we have a chance to trade him to NY then I think we have to take it.

Also a little FYI Salmons per 48 numbers
When Starting:
Pts FG% 3Pt% Rbds Ast TO Stl Blk PF
24.4 51% 57% 6.1 4.67 3.75 2.1 .5 3.34
When Coming off the Bench
Pts FG% 3Pt% Rbds Ast TO Stl Blk PF
16.9 49% 14% 7.6 3.69 2.53 1.36 .78 3.89

If we were starting Salmons he would be a very low priced 20 pts/game scorer. I think he is also a good enough defender that we could get away with him at SF.

Nice problem to have. I think I'd go with Martin, but reasonable people can differ on that one. Personally, I'd like to see Salmons play the small forward. Trade Artest. If you can get the mega-athlete power forward who can rebound and block shots, then you I think you can have Salmons at the 3 and Garcia as the swingman.
