Jerry Reynolds thoughts on season, and players:

Who was that and what did he do to Jerry? No "shot-blocking is overrated" and, I believe, I heard "protect the paint".

He alluded to some players not progressing and that they will start to see their minutes decrease as soon as there is competition for their positions.

If nothing else, those were entertaining.

I disagree with some of his analysis .. some of which I don't even think he believes. Much like Grant on his radio show, you can clearly tell when he puts those purple colored glasses on.

I found the draft talk the most interesting. Its early, but I like the way they are thinking. Pairing Cuz up with a interior defender. Possibly Drummond or Henson. The versatility comment obviously made me think of Terrence Jones... a guy who fits the 'defender' and 'versatile' tag.

IT already an upper echelon PG?

What position was Scottie Pippen? What position was Jordan? serious?

oooh jerry

Interesting. IT has to play off the ball more in the NBA. Matching him up with a Doug Christie type, that is, a good defender with heighth, a decent scorer, an experienced ball handler (played PG for Toronto). Of course when you describe who Christie was you realize that many a PG could well succeed next to Christie.

Another of his points rihgs true, points at least by implication, Cousins and Evans take time off on the court. I think we all knew or suspected that but he seemed to confirm. Cousins with all his talent and good hands does not apply it on defense ergo not a good defender, Evans is a good defender but too often loses concentration and is not a good defender.

This interview lends support to my belief that Reynolds is a good basketball resource and, secondly, that Basketball management from coaches on up knows what the hell they are doing and deserve better than we sometimes give them ........ er... most of the time give them.

With the has to play off the ball thing he was talking about Jimmer bro. He compared him to a guy like Mike Bibby.

Thanks for that. Makes sense and it doesn't make sense. Comparing Fredette to Bibby is unimaginable. If Jimmer was half as strong as Bibby or even as quick, he would be in fat city but I don't believe he'll ever get close. Here's hoping though.

Hate to tell you this, but Bibby wasn't that quick. Clever, but not quick! At least not compared to guys like Paul or Wall. I'd say he was average. I remember him guarding Nash, before Nash was Nash, and he couldn't keep Nash in front of him. So from some aspects, its not a bad comparison. At least in how Fredette might approach the game going forward.

I had the chance a couple of times to sit down and talk to Jerry at the Fair Oaks Sports Bar at Sunrise and Fair Oaks. He was there as a guest on Tim Roye's sports talk show. After his gig on the air, he sat down with us and shot the S--T for around 3 hours. He's not the country bumkin he pretends to be on air. He knows basketball, and has a much tougher edge to him in person, and off the record. He told us some great stories.

I know Bibby's not very quick so that's my point. I think Bibby is quicker than Jimmer and much, much stronger. I guess I don't have much confidence in Fredettes physical tools. Again I hope I'm wrong.

I'll ditto that. I also think Jimmer is stronger than Bibby at the same age. To get to the Bibby level, Jimmer has to improve his dribbling.

Hope you guys are right but I just don't see it. He is going to get every chance because he was drafted so high. Bibby? Hurley? Fredette? Hurley was much more an accomplished floor leader but poorer shooter than Fredette but he was too slow of foot and not strong. I don't know.

Look, Speed or quickness is subjective at this point. We can't pit Bibby against Jimmer in a foot race. But why in heavens name are you on this strength thing. Jimmer is noted for being in great shape, and if put along side Hurley, he would look like Mr. Universe by comparison. Hurley was a better ballhandler at this of his career, and a very good passer. But Hurley wasn't as slow footed as you say. Lets be honest here. Hurley never had a legit chance to prove himself because of his horrible injury.

The problem people have is that they remember the finished player in one stead, and then compare that player to a rookie player. I agree with Kingster that Jimmer is as strong as Bibby, if not stronger at the same stage of his career. Hurley on the other hand, looked like some scrawney kid when he came out of college.

Don' even put Hurley in this conversation. He had a super high BBIQ and could handle the ball 100x better than Bibby and 1000x better than Jimmer. Hurley was a top 5 guy at running the break he always made the right pass at the right time for layups or dunks. Now if he was never in the accident.

Thanks for you views. I agree speed and quickness are subjective at this stage of Fredette's career. I have to admit a personal
bias here. When I was in high school a friend impressed me with idea that good athletes walked and ran with feet slightly pidgeon-toed. Always tried to keep mine at least straight. I almost made it. Anyway since then when I see duck-walks like Jimmer's I still shake my head. Sorry my views are not more scientific. I do hope Jimmer does well in this league.

Ha ha! Funny you should say that. I heard that myself when I was in highschool. And, I'm living testament to that rule to some extent. I was a speedster when I was young and ran the 100 yd dash in 10 flat. Good enough for football and baseball (my sport), but not good enough for track, where you have to get into the 9.8's or below. And, I was pidgeon toed. Not sure how accurate the idea is, and at what degree it becomes a detriment. but its interesting to think about.

One of the NBA scouts I follow on twitter, says when he's looking for a big man, one of the things he looks for is a big with small feet and small ankles. Now I've always thought that if your tall, you should have large feet to support that height. But he thinks tall athletes with the small feet and small ankles are quicker and more athletic than their counterparts. Hey, who am I to say he's wrong. He's probably basing it on credible research over the years.

Keon Clark should have been the best.

Methinks you amywant to move on to greener pastures in the twitterverse. :)
