Pollard might be good next to Grant next year doing the PBP, I don't know, never heard his commentary.. but he obviously has bball knowledge - telling Petrie not to draft TRob.. All respect to Jerry, but I never thought he served much purpose on the commentary..

I agree with Kings faithful, Grant must be kept.. he is actually one of the best PBP in the game... on radio, I have a mixed view.. I think he sold out the community backing the Maloofs even to today, but it cant be argued that he gets ratings.. hell, he sits in for Rome regularly.
You know, I don't often think of myself as old, but I must be; at any rate, I'm clearly of the wrong generation/background to possibly be capable of interpreting Napear filling in for Jim Rome as an argument in favor of Napear. Rome stinks, his show is terrible, and being the kind of broadcaster whom he would hand pick to fill his shoes is not a virtue by any measure that I can grok.

He gets ratings? Congratulations, so does Rush Limbaugh. So does Howard Stern. They stink, too.

What? You may not agree with his politics, but he does not stink. He is one of the best, if not the best, radio broadcaster there is.

I don't recall ever mentioning my politics on this message board, even in the Foxhole days. My opinion of Limbaugh's show have nothing to do with his politics.

20-30 million people have bad taste.

Anyway, this really isn't the appropriate venue for this discussion, macadocious. That said, I personally decline to have conversations of this nature via PM. If you really care about what I think of Rush Limbaugh's radio show, create a thread in the Lounge, and I'll participate. Otherwise, let's end this hijack, and return to the topic at hand.

I said "may" and 20-30 million people a day disagree with you.
not to butt into your discussion, but popularity hardly equates to mastery of a given craft. limbaugh's a shock jock. apart from howard stern, who slim already mentioned, there are few individuals in the business who are better at saying **** to rile people up, whether they're predisposed to his politics or not. but that certainly doesn't make rush "one of the best, if not the best, radio broadcaster there is." it just makes him an incendiary personality. 20-30 million people (or more) listen to justin bieber everyday. that hardly makes him "one of the best, if not the best" musician there is...

MOD NOTE: Let's all please get the thread back on topic. Take this other discussion to the Lounge if it's really that interesting.

Thanks.

Agree that Grant and Jerry should stay as the TV crew. And also that Grant is much worse on the radio, although if Vivek told him that he could only do one of the two because of the conflict of interest, I'm curious if Grant would elect to stay on radio instead.
This would seem to be the tactful way out.

Agreed. They're all cheap acts.

Personally, I have a hard time with seeing a guy that supported the ownership and its lies remaining on the air after the community fought so hard to overcome the sort of dishonesty that recent period of Kings history represents.

Grant was facing the prospect of losing his bully pulpit and local celeb status - I bet it has been a fun life. Naturally he cried. But he is a mean person and I won't miss him if he goes. He is a good play by play announcer though I'll give him that.

Yes, sometimes I feel as though he is given credit for what fight he put up to keep the team in Sac on the radio - he was fighting for his job and not to uproot his family

It'd be a dream for me if they'd can both of them and put Gerould on the TV feed and Kozimor on the radio feed.
I can't stand Kozimor!!!!!! Plus, I've met the man and he was a total A$$. He had the only sports talk show in Sacramento that never talked about sports. If you want to replace Jerry, who I happen to like, then go after Scott Pollard.

I don't listen to Grant on the radio for this exact reason. I hate his radio show. But I think his play-by-play is really solid. I hope they keep him for that, take away the radio show, and tell him to keep his opinions to himself.
The Kings hire the announcing team, but KHTK hires the on air personalities. Not to say that the new owners wouldn't have some influence, but unless they decided to utilize it, I don't see Grant going anywhere as far as KHTK is concerned. Announcers stay on the air for one reason, and one reason only. Ratings! Grant gets high ratings, and that attracts advertizers, and that makes the station money. Pretty simple really.

That is of course, based on your personal preference. Fact is, if they get good ratings, and Limbaugh has the highest ratings of any on the air announcer in the US, then someone somewhere likes them. And in the TV and Radio business, ratings are what counts. It equals money, and stations are in business to make money. They're not part of the public service community.

Just a suggestion. If you don't want anyone to hijack a thread, then don't pick a polarizing figure like Limbaugh, and say he stinks. When you do, your going to get that type of response. In the world of politics, thats called a drive by. Take your shot and then keep going. Just a suggestion..

I think Grant does a great job play by play. His enthusiasm is a big plus and he can get the viewers pumped up. He is as good as any of them and better than most, imo.

I know he was getting paid by the Maloofs but I just don't like the way he sided with them for so long when he knew they trying to screw over Sacramento.
I don't care if he's gone and I never listen to his radio show anymore.

I really have no idea how Grant is recognised by so many as a great PBP guy. It boggles my mind. Of course it's a matter of opinion, but he's utterly bad.

Jerry was always Grants insider.

Hopefully he can stay on in a broadcast role, and they send Grant packing somewhere else.

I like his energy; he does a good job of transmitting some excitement into the game. His facts are usually spot-on, he rarely makes mistakes, and I think he does a good job of pointing out strategic things like two-for-one situations, foul trouble, and what to watch for. I also think that while they are certainly biased towards the Kings, they have no problem calling out things that Kings players should not have done (e.g. bad pass, ill-advised shot, driving into the lane versus three defenders), which some home-town announcers almost never do.

If you compare Grant and Jerry to a random broadcast pair for another team, they are better than a lot of them. They are better than a few of the nationally televised guys (Bill Walton, anyone?)

I will say that Grant's "catch phrases" sometimes seem forced, and Jerry's player nicknames are occasionally disastrous.

I dare say I've listened to all the other teams announcers a few times and Grant and Jerry are one of the more objective/ accurate ones. Objective not in the sense of not being homers, but in not trashing the other team. Hornets and Jazz are the worst.

Hornets? seriously? they're actually among my favourites. very fair to other teams and David Wesley does give you some pretty good insights. are you maybe mistaking them for the Blazers' or Nuggets' broadcasters? because those guys are horrible.

He may have meant the new Pelicans. Those guys pee me off. Not Stacey King in Chicago or Tommy Heisohn in Boston pee me off, but still.

TDOS. Not much basketball to talk about. The fate of our announcers is in the hands of Ranadive and those that influence him. I've always enjoyed our radio and TV guys. What I do hope is that Ranadive respects and rewards the long association and loyal service of Reynolds and the same for Bobby Jackson. If Luckenbill hadn't been up in the rafters with a tarp to stop the leak you know Reynolds would have been there.

I was at that game! If Jerry had been up there, there would be no Jerry today....
