[Game] Jazz @ Kings - 11/24/12

uh Jerry, Iggy does have a position he can play. That's what Tyreke needs to fill out his game to accomplish. You see how he's had more success this game? Because he's hit his outside shot enough tonight to be able to fulfill the needs of the SG position.

Ya the last 3 games have looked outstanding besides a couple cases of smart benching players too long. Averaging like 108ppg, not playing all 13 players, actually running some pic n rolls, tyreke looks amazing, and they should easily have 3 wins In a row right now

You said "a call will never be reversed". That either means people complain to get the call reversed or it means absolutely nothing. Which is it? It's a statement that means absolutely nothing. It's a phrase passed around by schmucks. Don't repeat it.

And NBA officiating and NFL officiating are different, but not so vastly different to not be compared, especially when it comes to how they are discussed and viewed. If you think the discussion would never end if they talked about every missed call in the NBA then you are identifying a big problem. How does it get to be such a big problem? Because it's never talked about. There is no explanation for the technical foul on Cousins. Whatever was said as explanation was bull****. If Cousins accepts the non-answer and then petitions the NBA or sends a complaint then nothing will happen. If he approaches the press with it then they'll try to find excuses or say he should say nothing. You see the pattern? The problem? There's just too much of that stuff in the NBA. You don't just accept continuous lies. It only leads to the fustercluck the NBA is in.

i cant control how you perceive what i say, the meaning behind what i said is, you can complain/ask for an explanation in a civilized way knowing that it wont be reversed.

so demarcus should take it upon himself to try and exploit it while everyone else just learns how to work it? yeahp that will work, screw trying to calm down and act like an adult.

You can do that, but when you're repeatedly targeted then the time for that is over. When there is no explanation for what was called then there is no quiet response appropriate to it.

I don't know what you mean with that second line. I just know that the problem is much bigger than Cousins' situation. His situation is just a very extreme example of the problem.

Thats what happens when you let your unique talents play to their strengths and build offenses around them. Duh!!

It was bad officiating, but you cannot control that. Cousins CAN control his own actions... or at least he SHOULD be able to. Dumb play.

I'm late to the thread but this sums up the situation pretty well. I like Cousins and what he is capable of bringing to the game. I absolutely detest his thought process and decision-making when he's called for a foul. Something has to change and we all know it's not going to be the officials.

This is my problem. It should be the officials changing because they have been the problem from before Cousins got into the league and will continue to be after Cousins has left the league. Cousins isn't the problem because the problem goes far beyond him.

It is Cousins, what other rookie do you remember complaining about every single call other than Cousins? He has done the same think since he came into the league, now the refs have it out for him. Just shut up and play. Look at Tyreke, he pretty much never complains to officials, because of that refs give him his calls and will take him more seriously when he does complain. Cousins on the other hand moans and pouts about everything since day 1.

lets hope Coach has learned when he should rest Tyreke

Subs were great tonight. Reke came in around the 8:15 mark and got 36 minutes of play, JT got around 32 minutes, and Cousins would have been on pace for 35-36 minutes had he came in when Reke did in the 4th. Everyone else's minutes can be up for debate, but those 3 guys should be receiving those sort of minutes on a nightly basis

You are absolutely correct. Trouble is. We need him if the team is going to turn around and be a contender for a play-off spot or even crack the 30 win barrier. To blow up during a close game after grabbing 9 rebounds and scoring 14 points in a 29 and a half minute stint is unbelievable. He’s not a rookie and the ref’s are watching his every emotional outburst. I have no idea how he’ going to control his, on the edge emotions, but he’s going to have to find a way if he has any desire to be an elite NBA center.

I dono VF21 maybe someone like Tom Baker could help

I wouldn't characterize what I saw as Cousins blowing up. He hasn't learned when enough is enough and tried to make one last parting remark and it cost him. But not knowing what he said, discussing the foul after the fact is no different than what most of the veterans in the league do. The first technical was unnecessary. It's completely unfair for the officials to have double standards -- and I think this is what gets under Cousins' skin -- but that's the reality of the league. DeMarcus has to realize that there are guys who are going to have it out for him every game and he's got to be strong enough to let it go. He's a smart guy, I think he's learning from all of this. Just not as quickly as we'd like him to.

In the meantime somebody on the Kings, either coach or player, needs to recognize what's happening in that situation and pull Cousins away before it's too late. Veteran teams look out for each other. And I think the team will figure that out too, eventually.

I'm sure his team mates are pretty fed up with him... imagine how you'd feel as a guy like Tyreke who just shuts up and plays, when you have two team mates picking up technical fouls every other game, giving away free points. At some point Cuz has to learn to manage how the refs treat him. You'd think he'd realise the short leash the refs have on him by now.

I was on the floor for this game and I was very close to Cousins when he got his technical foul and ejection. The first technical, as you know, was questionable but you can see why Cousins received one. The whistle was blown and a good 1-2 seconds afterward he aggressively slapped the ball out of Kanter's hands. Depending on who the ref is or who the player is, there would be instances when that would not be a technical foul.

As for the second technical, Cousins walked over to the official that did not give him a technical and began discussing the first technical. He approached him in a very calm and collected manner and I was very proud of how he was taking it. At the end of the conversation, he seemed a little bit flustered and looked like he was about to say something that would fall under dissent, but he closed his mouth and turned around. Once he turned around the ref gave him another technical. For someone being a few 10 feet from the discussion, I found it very puzzling how he got ejected. Again, I was impressed with how he initially came over to the ref and handled the situation. I would like to say there must have been something I missed, but I had 100% of my focus on that conversation.

Overall, I think Cousins has shown improvement with the referees. He is aware of what is happening to him and is trying to fix it. It is more difficult for players, such as Cousins, who are extremely competitive and passionate when they play. I personally was a big complainer to refs growing up. I eventually gained a reputation around the entire league and club of my constant complaining and hasseling of the referees. I noticed the referees began to have it out for me. I could know longer play the game the way I wanted to play. It was extremely frustrating. I knew I had to change if I ever wanted to be successful again. It took me a good 2-3 years to become level headed and change my reputation. I think it will take that long with Cousins. He has got to know that his reputation isn't going to change over night and that it is a long term commitment. As long as he is still getting ejected, the process of changing his reputation has not yet begun.

Cousins with his constant complaining has just got to stop. Its rare nowadays to see him commit a foul without seeing the angry scowl and/or complaints. JT has this bad habit as well, but to a lesser extent. Its so tiring seeing both of these guys argue after each call.

I understand that Cuz has great passion, but for him to be the leader of this team, he has to find a way to control his emotions.

I have to tell you I absolutely admire Tryekes interaction with the refs on the court. If he feels he didn't commit a charge or foul, he may say a few words to the refs as he runs back up the court, but its not this animated or dramatized look and body flailing stuff the Cuz does so often. Some may see this as Tyreke being content or not having much passion or desire, but I don't I believe so. You can want to win as badly as the next person without having to display all the antics.

For this reason I'm a huge fan of Tyreke. Not only because he's a great player, but I appreciate the way he treats the refs and other players. This doesn't mean I don't like Cousins, I actually do and think he's a world of talent, but his inability to control his emotions towards the refs is obviously hindering his game and disrupting the team. You just want to tell him to stop playing the martyr role and just play the game.

Alot of highly talented players complain to the refs after every call. Every lakers player does it. Jordan did it. Reggie Miller did it. Russell Westbrook does it. The point that swissh is making is that the refs give preference to some players and target others. Personally I blame both sides.
