Jason Thompson IS THE REAL DEAL!

J-WILL55

G-League
I'm sure there are 20 different threads on him already, but JASON FREAKING THOMPSON!!!!!! He brings it EVERY night, and now that he is starting, I really see him putting forth the effort to become ROY. I am a sportswriter at a newspaper near Sacramento (Live in Sac) so I haven't been able to see many games this season, but I check the box scores every night and JT is putting up some serious numbers every single time he steps out on the court.

Anyone else share my enthusiasm?

JD81 is that you? lol

His improvement every game is apparent. His rookie mistakes get fewer and his positioning gets better. The Clips announcers heaped praise upon praise about JT all game then interviewed him after. He is a good interview as well.

I'm sure that he'll sputter sometimes, but, in a word, yes. As my avatar kind of says, I've really missed having athletic bigs on the team. Plus he's skilled, and his motor and work ethic are great.

Mikki, time to go back to being that spark plug off the bench.

Al Horford or Jason Thompson? people love Horford but if you subtract his one monster game Thompson has out played him all season. GREAT PICK PETRIE!!!

Oh i kinda like that nickname. I am sick of just a players two initials or the first letter of their first name and first syllable of their last passing as a good nickname.

Haha, for real. No imagination in sports nicknames these days.

As far as the topic goes...

Draft day I was bummed we didnt pick Speights or Randolph.
Today I'm completely and 100% fine we didnt pick Speights or Randolph.
JT has got all kinds of potential and I'm happy as a clam he's in purple.

ESPN Rookie 50 ranks JT at #7 stating "... I still think Thompson ends up being the power guy in Sacramento for years to come. He isn't just tough and talented; he competes really hard, too."

A week earlier the same ESPN thread stated (right after the fateful 4-game road trip to start the year), "He might have been No. 1 in these rankings if the Kings weren't so awful. That's how good he's been."

Every team is now "discovering" our JT and especially how he competes really hard.

I'm just amazed how comfortable he seems out there and his instincts for the ball above the rim. I say lets keep him, eh?? ;)

It's all a mirage. I have been assured by Draftexpress that JT's maximum potential is Mark Blount. :p

If the draft were today who would you take Beasley or Thompson?

Beasley 34min 14attempts 16.4pts 5.9reb 1.5ast

Thompson 25min 9attempts 12pts 7reb 1.1ast

remember all the whining about where we were picking in the draft? Kinda seems silly now doesn't it.

As much as I love JT, it would still be tough to pass on Beasley if available. You have to consider that that Beasley's 2 1/2 years younger and showed tremendous go-to ability against tough college competition. Certainly though there's nowhere near the gap in ability between them that most pundits assumed, and I doubt there are many remaining qualms about taking JT where we did.

1) Thompson is at least 3 inches taller than Beasley.
2) Thompson owned Beasley in their only college game match-up.
3) Beasley is said to be an occasional head case - not Thompson.
4) Thompson is more NBA versatile, playing 4, 3 and possibly 5.
5) Thompson looks as good or better than Beasley right now - future?

Done. I'd pick Thompson over Beasley for the above reasons.

uhhh...we're not even 10 games into the season and you already declare Thompson better than Beasley? A little early isn't it? Drew Gooden was drafted the same year than Yao Ming was drafted. I"m sure he probably had better stats than Yao during the first 10 games. Does that mean you'll draft him over Yao if you were back in 2002 also?

Well you brought it up so here you go. in 2002 Gooden started the year off starting. Yao got about 15 min a game. Drew put up 12pts 6reb. Yao 10 and 5reb. Now once Yao started he got double double at least every other game. Now lets jump to 2008. Beasley is the one starting and JT is coming off the bench. Yet JT has the better numbers. Hmmmmm may want to come with another comparison.

Have you seen any of the Miami games?? Beasley isn't looking bad. Its not like he is having bad game. Now I assume you have seen the kings games. Does JT look as if he is playing his best? I don't think so. In fact if not for the game in which JT got 11 min with 2pts 2reb. I wonder what his averages would look like without that game?

I don't understand this need some have that the #1,#2,#3 picks just have to be better than the #12 or so. The only reason JT wasn't a top 5 pick is because of his college. Had he done that at a bigger name school he would have been. Every GM questioned if it would translate from Rider to the NBA in fact many ppl here did the same. Turns out it looks like it is going to translate.

But by all means you let me know when is the best time to do JT vs. Beasley comparisons. 20 games? 30? signs show that it will be the same. Now if JT had the 34 min that beasley has you would be agreeing with me.

While I'm very happy with the way that Thompson is playing AND think that he has the potential to be a very special player, it is still way too early to make these kind of comparisons. To answer your question of (how long?), I would say about 2 seasons. We may know the answer before then, but it will likely take 2-3 years to judge which player is better.
