Jason Kidd?

I'm a huge Jason Kidd fan. I watched him at Cal. I remember sitting in Sunnyside at Lake Tahoe and watching the game between Cal an Duke. The great battle between Kidd and Hurley. It was a classic. But we're rebuilding. We're in a youth movement, and last time I checked the mirror, I look a lot older than I did when I was sitting in Sunnyside that day. So I suspect that Kidd is a lot older too.
So I don't see the point, and, why would he want to come here, especially for the MLE? Trust me! There will be a team out there that believes he's the magic part their missing and they'll pay him a handsome salary. And they may be right. Look at the difference Billups has made in Denver. You just never know.

pointless to have him. he will only get us unnecessary wins. we wanna develop our young guys and have another crack at the lottery next year. we might get john wall-

I fail to grasp how wins are unnecessary...Aren't they better than losses. Isn't that the point of the exercise? To win the games. You can't win championships if you don't win games...Jeez.
I like the idea of signing Kidd. I believe he would exponentially improve the Kings perimeter defense and young bigs. A back court of Kidd and Martin would be fierce in the open court, and can both knock down the 3. He could play in a motion "Princeton offense" (see his Nets experience), and would be able to find Spencer and Jason in scoring situations. He is a free agent, so the Kings wouldn't need to give up any young talent to get him, and the only competition for his job would be a rookie PG whom he could help greatly with his experience, and Beno friggin Udrih. What's not to like? Jason Kidd would be worth a 2 year 12-14 million dollar deal, in my opinion because he would make the team relevant again, and give them an identity and focal point to build on along with the young nucleus of Martin, Garcia, Thompson, Hawes, and Greene. Add to that 3 draft picks and possibly retaining a restricted free agent or two and the Kings look promising again. Kidd would play his 2 years, and then the Kings would have cap space to re-sign their youth and another impact free agent. He would put butts in the seats, stop the financial bleeding, and bring quality and character. Win, win, win.

I'm going to go back to the research that I did on games played and length of career. As I said, most NBA players don't reach the 1000 game mark and those that do are usually mere shells of them selves or an injury waiting to happen. Kidd has already played in 1,107 games. The last thing this team needs is to tie up any kind of significant money in a player thats just an injury waiting to happen.
Going back and looking at his past career and his present play, I would say that he's about 75% of what he used to be. Thats not going to improve in the coming two years. It will only get worse. Put him on a contender and limit his minutes, and he can probably help that team. Whatever he has left would just be wasted on the Kings.

Only way I would sign Kidd is if we got Rubio and we sign him for 3 million bucks or less. He could teach a lot of lessons quick to Mr. Rubio. Of course, Kidd would have to agree.

I was thinking the same thing. If Kidd wanted to end his career close to home and transition into a mentor/coaching type role, he could be great for the MLE for a 2 year deal if we draft Rubio. Otherwise, it just doesn't make much sense.

Point guards who can't shoot don't age well. To his credit though, he's still savvy enough to hold his own as of now, but I sense a slight dip in his playmaking abilities because he's conceding footspeed, and that's also affecting his defense. And really, the offense...if there's anything about him, he's really becoming more of an offensive liability, mostly because he just doesn't look to shoot--that to me has been the most glaring weakness for him. Obviously anyway past the age of players we should covet, anyway.

Kidd will retire at the same time we are looking for a new coach....he would be ideal for that position.
And in his spare time he could teach a marriage and family relations class.
