EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Los Angeles Lakers forward Luke Walton will be sidelined for at least two weeks by a foot injury.

Walton

Walton, who started 11 consecutive games before missing Sunday's 100-86 win over Portland, has sesamoiditis in his right foot and will wear a protective boot for a week, the team said Monday.
The condition is an irritation of the sesamoid bones that extend to the big toe and generally heals without surgery.
Walton had averaged 5.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists since moving into the starting lineup. Trevor Ariza started in his place against the Trail Blazers and had four points, five rebounds and two assists while playing 33 minutes.

White to miss at least next 12 weeks

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City Thunder rookie forward D.J. White had a second surgery to remove a benign growth from his jaw, and is expected to miss at least the next 12 weeks.
Thunder officials said team doctors performed the final procedure on Sunday at Integris Baptist Medical Center. The initial surgery was performed Oct. 13.
White, who was acquired by the Thunder as a part of a draft day trade, has not appeared in a game this season.

I'd say a slump... too early to write 'em off! Although they may need to do something about that anemic bench. And I really don't think Starbury is the answer. ;)

Are the Lakers in for a bit of a slump after losing Lamar? They've been getting away with some sloppy ball on a very home-heavy schedule of late... (reality set in a bit for them on their most recent roady)

Horford to miss at least four games

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3825518

ATLANTA -- Atlanta Hawks center Al Horford was held out of Sunday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers with a bone bruise in his right knee and will miss at least three more games.

Horford

Horford was injured in Friday's loss at Orlando and is out indefinitely after an MRI showed the bruise, coach Mike Woodson said.
The Hawks said before Sunday's game that Horford will not be with the team for a three-game road trip that begins Tuesday at Phoenix.
He is averaging 10.8 points and leads the team with 8.7 rebounds per game in his second season. Horford, the No. 3 pick in the 2007 NBA draft, was the only unanimous choice on last year's NBA All-Rookie team picked by the league's head coaches.
Zaza Pachulia returned after missing one game with the flu to start at center against Philadelphia.

I've never had anything particularly for or against Mike Fratello, but he is NOT going to work with that TNT studio crew.

Outstanding! I've been very interested to see who was going to win the vote for Fan Night: every single week so far this season, either the Lakers or the Cavaliers have won the vote, and next week is the first time all season that neither the Lakers nor Cavaliers will be playing on Tuesday night.

Charlotte forward Gerald Wallace has a partially-collapsed lung and a rib injury following a collision in Tuesday night's overtime win over the Los Angeles Lakers, the Bobcats said Wednesday.

Wallace was diagnosed as having between 30 and 40 percent of his left lung collapsed and a non-displaced fracture of the fifth rib after being examined at a Los Angeles hospital. He had a chest tube inserted to help restore the lung to functional capacity, but will remain hospitalized for the next 48 hours for observation, the team said.

Wallace had scored 15 points before leaving with 2:08 left in the fourth quarter after a flagrant foul by Andrew Bynum knocked him to the floor.

Wallace is the Bobcats' second-leading scorer with 16.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.

I think Andrew Bynum should be benched for as long as Wallace is unable to play. I am beyond sick and tired of thug mentality plays like this...

This one hits home for me because Wallace is still one of ours. And well it's the Lakers too...

so, Wallace - Heal soon and quickly!

Bynum - You suck. And please get that "I don't know what I just did..." look off your face :mad:

I feel really bad for Wallace--but there's a reason why athletic freak swingmen don't try to go for highlight reel plays a lot of the time--it's injury conducive. Not to mention there's a certain deterioration that goes along with being one--

I remember Ricky Davis and Shawn Marion were once all-out slashers, and although that gave them a big boost early in their careers, all that wear and tear really deteriorates the body, and both of them have wisely cut down on the slashing, developed a jumper, and made themselves more versatile in that way. Now, both of them have peaked early and Ricky Davis is now one of the worst players in the league, so there's a drawback--but if Wallace doesn't want to end his career prematurely, it would be wise for him to only slash when he really has an opening, and really hone up that jumper.

Of course the drawback is that if you never really had the touch in the first place--Darius Miles, early outstanding dunker, horrible shooter, undergoes a serious regression, gets an injury that took him out of the league last year. But while Wallace has really worked on his jumper and really drastically reduced most of his athletic markers (steals, blocks)--he still really wants to dunk and his free throw attempts have largely been kept the same, so he's still risking his body out there.

So unfortunately, it's almost commonplace to hear about an injury from Wallace, because of his style of play. Crash is a unique player in that he's a very good stat stuffer, and is gifted with immense physical skills, but there's a reason why few play with the reckless abandon he does--it was fun to watch early in his career, but now it's coming to haunt him, frankly.

Some of the blame has to go on Bynum, of course, but he just left his ribs exposed when he was attempting that play--really putting himself in prime injury position.

BTW thanks VF for editing--I just wanted to add a list of GWall's injuries over the past year.
