Jackie Butler.

SLAB

Hall of Famer
Here's a player that has had my attention since sometime last year when he was playing for the Knicks.

He isn't the flashy name that will put anyone over the top, but when you are a team desperatly looking for any size, I think this kid could be a good piece that could hopefully pan out one day.

Jackie Butler is a 6'10 center who's now playing for the Spurs, but he is not getting any minutes, having only appeared in four games...He played really well in spurts last year.

Anyways, I think a simple little trade of...

Jason Hart and either Ronnie Price or a second rounder could get Jackie away from the Spurs.

The Spurs do it because...

-Jackis Butler is really not important to them.
-Jason Hart has played under Pop (I believe) and would provide a steady vetran backup that could play defense and hustle, and potentially once again be prodictive under Pop..
-Price could be molded into quite a little scrapper/defender under Pop.

The Kings do it because...

-Jackie is a big guy who actually plays like a center...A potential piece for the future.
-Ronnie Price isn't getting any PT, and who are we kiddding...Players like Ronnie Price could be found in the DL.

We then dump Taylor, and have a pretty exciting pair of backups in Jackie Butler and Justin Williams.

...Yea, Im bored enough to come up with trades like these and make a tread.

:p

to a smaller degree, but generally the right line of thinking if we're going in a rebuilding mode.

Why not? Butler is a project -- more project than the Spurs have time for. But he's big and has potential. Biggest thing I could see is just that he's a halfcourt player and Muss...well still not sure what Muss is trying to accomplish but he seems to want to run. Or at least gamble and scramble. Butler would be better in a walk it up/smash mouth system. Or at least potentially so if he develops. If we're rebuilding though, the sort of gamble I would instantly take. Young, cheap, big.

Why not Mo/Hart? Spurs get some size back, and we keep the youth. Throw in a second maybe?

I though about that too...I just don't see the Spurs wanting to give away Jackie Butler for to old vets who are never going to improve, or pretty much contribute.

Hence why you throw Price in, making it a potential for potential swap.

I had heard Jackie Butler is overweight, which could be a problem. But I have a hard time seeing the Spurs giving him away -- he's just so cheap, they probably don't feel much of an impetus to move him.

The Spurs had laughed all summer after getting Butler away from the clueless Knicks. They absolutley loved Butler. There's no way they'd give him up for our garbage.

Also, both Price and Hart's contracts are done in the summer. If the Spurs make this trade, they risked giving up a very talented big man for two guys who bolt elsewhere.
