J.J. Redick anybody?

All-Star
If I'm not wrong Redick is a restricted FA after this season. I think he can potentially fit well with Tyreke. I've watched him the last few seasons as I was a huge fan of him when he was playing for Duke. From my observations, he's grown into a decent defender (played pretty good defense on Ray Allen, chasing him through screens and at least giving a damn...something that can't be said about some of the other Magic players). He's also a pretty good ballhandler and just makes smart plays on the offensive end. On top of that he is (or was) an excellent shooter from long range which would provide another weapon for Tyreke to kick the ball out to.

I'd be willing to try him out for a couple of years and see if he can fit with Evans.

Thoughts?

he's developed pretty well, and is a much better player than when he entered the league, but i have a feeling he's going to look much worse given more PT on a substantially weaker team. he seems like he'd be a good addition to a playoff team that needs shooters, but not to a rebuilding team. AND if we got him we'd be giving him more minutes- and pay him accordingly.

the scary thing is GP would likely do something like this- beno/salmons 3.0

True. But my point is that he is a possible option for us at the 2. He won't be the big second guy like Evan Turner could be for us but he'd fill the spot pretty well IMO, whether off the bench or as a starter. I believe that he will continue to improve and get his shot back. Great shooters don't just lose their touch like that. If he gets more PT and starts hitting his shots I think his confidence will come back and you'd have a very dangerous perimeter threat that wouldn't allow teams to clog the paint against Tyreke as much. Couple that with his ball handling and I think we get a poor man's version (for now - could be better if he improves) of Christie

I don't think going after Redick is a bad idea at all, hypothetically. He really has improved his all around game. Still not a great ballhandler, but is able to create enough that he has become more than simply a spot up shooter.

I like his game, and could see him being a scoring punch off the bench, and would instantly become our best 3 pt threat, and most consistent. I could see him playing a role similar to Jon Barry, although I think Redick has more talent than Jon did. Only problem is all the wings we have. If we can move Noc, don't bring back Ime, I could see a spot for him. He can't play point, so he and Cisco would be splitting minutes at the 2, with Omri and Donte at the 3. Thats the onyl way I see room for him. If we sign another backup pg, then I think theres just too many guys competing for minutes.

Given that both Beno and Cisco are better rounded players who when healthy should eat up almost all the SG minutes, what would be the advantage of signing Captain One Dimensional again? Scoring really wasn't, and hasn't, been the factor holding us back since...hell I don't even know when. Clinton administration I think.

Dont you get it!? If the Kings can score a ridiculous amount of point per game it WONT MATTER how bad our defense is! :p

Amare Stoudemire would've liked a word with you to point out otherwise, but he was too busy adjusting his goggles.

Gotta make sure Stud looks good on offense!

With regard to Redick, I'm not sure I want anyone coming from that team outside of Howard and Nelson, with the stench of this effort (can it even be called that?) still clinging to them. The makeup of that whole team is mentally weak, from the top on down, starting with the coach.

We just saw these guys lay down like chumps in front of the whole world -- I'm in no rush to go out and sign their soft, one dimensional defensive liability away to a long term contract (you say he tries, but that's different from actually being able to play good defense, which he can't, try or not).

And I noticed someone up there compared this guy to a poor man's Doug Christie. Whoever that was, you should be ashamed of yourself. Doug Christie is rolling in his grave. Even from there he's still got a better shot at locking down Ray Allen than JJ Redick ever will.

I've always seen him as a 2 anyway. Think that's also his best position. Ime should be gone, and Noc should just be benched to make way for Casspi and Greene. If we get a big in the draft, be it cousins or whoever, there will be less opportunities for Donte to get minutes at the 4, and I foresee him getting more minutes at the 3. I feel that he is as good a ball handler and passer as Cisco is, and most importantly he just seems to be able to do what the coach wants him to do. Other than the knock down 3s in everyone's face bit.

Thing is I think he's more than one dimensional and will be a better player than Cisco. Then again I have yet to see Cisco at his best - his performance this season shouldn't really be counted and it was hard to see how much he had progressed due to the injury and all. Anyway if we had JJ or a new SG in general wouldn't Beno go back to playing the point, backing up Tyreke or whatever?

When I watch the Magic play, things just seem to flow better when Redick is in the game. He also puts in a lot of effort chasing Ray Allen through screens and contesting his shots, which leads me to believe that his defence is not THAT bad, or that he at least tries to defend.

He's on a title contender. That's why he plays 'hard'. Put cisco on a title contender and they'd be talking about him like he's the greatest thing since sliced bread ;)

I'm sure your aware the Christie is alive and still kicking, right? Just checking..

Nah, no thanks to Redick. Some offenses make a lot of players look better than they are, or maybe I should say more effective since Redick is obviously skilled. Phoenix's offense (aka Nash) makes players look better. That's what Orlando's offensive scheme does for Redick IMO. Surround Howard with shooters, and Redick's a darn good one.

Off the subject slightly, but has Petrie ever gone after any significant restricted free agents? Salmons may have been restricted, but other than that I don't recall him pursuing many of them..

I was gonna make a post like this. I am all up for it. He is one of my favorite players.

Eh, we have Beno. Better overall player than JJ, IMO, and not worth the money.

but obviously the people we have now are not getting us anywhere. We need to do more work. Here is the definition if we keep the players we still have and expect something different. INSANITY! expecting different results while doing the same thing. Damn better the Nocioni.
