But isn't it true that since he can opt out we cant trade him because he is not officially on the roster for next year yet. He won't declare officially what he is doing until July 1st.http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#88
Trades are prohibited until the day after the team's season ends. So, techinically, we have been able to trade since last month. The trade moratorium kicks in for ALL teams on July 1, 2007 and lasts until July 10.

Does the second bullet item here apply:

In which case the Kings would have to wait until Bibby chooses not to opt out (which he has to do by July 1st).
Is that right?

Well technically I think he can't be traded until later on in july because from July 1st until about the 10th or 12th, I am not sure that teams can do trades during that period.Yea, that pretty much clears it up. Bibby can't be traded till july 1st.
You are right. No team can make a trade during the moratorium.Well technically I think he can't be traded until later on in july because from July 1st until about the 10th or 12th, I am not sure that teams can do trades during that period.
Am I wrong?

Yes, if he waives the option before July 1st, he could be traded, now to teams already out of the playoffs and other teams as they finish the playoffs. I seriously doubt Bibby will do that, even if he's already sure he won't exercise the opt-out. It just removes a choice for him, so why do it sooner than later?I beleive if Bibby takes an action on option to stay INTO his contract that he could be dealt before July 1st. If he waits until june 30th to do it, then it would have to be after the moratorium

Great knowledge of the game... Excellent ballhandler... Possesses one of the best crossovers in the League... Superb shooter... Great shot off the dribble... Excels under pressure... A clutch player... One of the best pick-and-roll players in the NBA... Very good in the open court... Average defender... One of the top point guards in the League.
I agree he's not interested and don't think there is minimal chance he'll exercise his option. I just don't see any compelling reason for him to pro-actively waive it either, unless he wants to oblige the team for some reason. He never has to say anything. He just lets the deadline go by.Because it removes a choice he's not interested in. Even if Petrie walked up to Bibby and said "the moment we can, we're.

No, he's still a good player on the right team. I just wish that profile was 100% accurate. We'd have no problem moving him if that were the case.A bit over enthusiastic, perhaps, but not THAT far off base. The last two points are the only ones that stand out to me as being flat out wrong. And, considering how many other guards in the league share his deficiencies, the wrongness of the last statement is entirely dependent on how big a group you're looking at (top 5, top 10, top 25?).
He had a crappy season, folks, but I sincerely doubt that he magically turned into 100% suck overnight.
