is kevin martin trade bait

I would contend that with Ron's stablization, that KG, and basically on anyboyd likely to be even remotely available, ONLY KG, could make us legit contenders, which is enough to sacrifice a Kevin Martin over. If you get a shot at a title, gotta take it unless you are talking about a HOFer, which Kevin has not shown. A ?(draft pick maybe, or Brad), KG, Ron, Salmons/Garcia, Bibby lineup could be quite special, and with KGs durability, even as he declines he is likely to remain a more valuable player than Kevin well into his mid-30s. Even at 18 and 10 and long, he will be a valuable, if no longer franchise, piece 5 years from now.

In any case, such a long shot its not much to worry about. Its jsut the pecking order of things. An "All Star" or borderline All-Star, is completely expendable when you start talking about getting a great one.

I don't know if anyone would take Martin if they had to take #9, no knock on Martin but #9 has got to be in the top ten as far as garbage players in the Association.

I will say I was excited when #9 came over for that guy we had named Macy because in 04-05 in his 26 games with the Kings #9 put up 14.5 PPG and 8.7 RPG and was solid. Now look at him, just a guy collecting a check.

Looks like we are going to have to bite the bullet and ride out that contract or buy it out. But Martin is a guy to build around despite his defensive prowess.

Someone on here mentioned a big for Martin, the only guy I would see that may be in the same category right now is Al Jefferson. Dwight Howard is clearly a step above these two but Jefferson for Martin is kind of a wash although Boston would have no reason to do that deal. Like some mention, maybe Chandler also but a big guy who fits a role is so much harder to get than a no defense playing, slight of build 2 guard.

Gerald Wallace is a free agent this off season.........just throwing that out there.....lol.....man did he look good last night but the Kings D does have a funny way of making guys look great.....

With regards to Martin, he's got a special nose for scoring, but not only that; he scores so efficiently and rather effortlessly during those rather uncommon (I won't say "rare") times the team plays a cohesive, free-flowing game. Not too many scorers can boast a 50% shooting percentage, 40% three point shooting percentage, and 90% free throw percentage (Yes, I know he's leveled off, but this is a rough estimate, and I remember ESPN? Dime noted that he may be one of the few players to ever achieve those averages for the season--that is, if he can keep it up). Although he's as smooth as hell with regards to athleticism and generally physical attributes (he's still lanky, but not overly weak anymore), what I have are questions about his all-around game. He's not much of a rebounder and passer considering the minutes he plays, and I believe Brick has mentioned this before as well; many superstar SGs, from the likes of VC to Kobe to T-Mac to Dwyane to Pierce, are able to put up 5 rebounds and 5 assists effortlessly. Martin's passing prowess is erm...not there yet. Albeit, though! there's hope. Rip Hamilton, what seems to be Martin's best comparison with regards to other players in the league, has steadily increased his all-around game over the past couple of years, what with the assists and rebounds. With his strengths maximized, more plays run for him, and with more of a team-flowing game, Martin can really improve in this area; he's had rebounding explosions in the past, so look for this area to make a jump first, and then his passing. I'm not completely sold on him as an untouchable, but I definitely believe that he deserves more playing time, perhaps 2-3 more years--before we make the ultimate judgment in trading him for another star or even a superstar.

his first words were "i would contend" meaning that it's his view.

but counting the free agents and the two stars who are probably on the trading block this summer (i.e. garnett and gasol), who is the best? KG. not only that, he is the only one of the bunch who plugs our most glaring weaknesses (defense, intensity, length, athleticism, rebounding, shotblocking), AND does it on an extremely high level in this league.

There is no such thing as "solid evidence" in a sport. It is ALL speculation.

And in this case the speculation runs around a first ballot HOF player who does it ALL, still to this day. Nobody else like him will be available. If ANYBODY can make this team into a contender in the present, and that's a colossal "IF" because we are so colossally far from it its not even funny. But if ANYBODY can, its Kevin Garnett. An all in one leader, rebounder, interior defender, passer etc. There is no other player that can patch so many of our holes by himdelf. And nobody else that can unleash the nearly unique KG/Ron forward tandem on the NBA -- that would be one of the best defensive forward pairings in history. And that STILL might not get it done.

I think we should rebuild. That said, if we do not, making a Garnett play, assuming its pairing him with Artest, might be the one "win in the present" move that wouldn't speak of delusion, denial, and at some point, flat out cowardice. There is a contending argument with that one.
